I love to see these little things when I’m driving around:

Someone waiting at the bus stop/to cross a road wearing headphones/earbuds and they’re having a dance and really getting into it 🕺💃

Dogs that are so happy to be out on a walk that they are bouncing and jiggling from side to side with their little tails waggling 🐕

Toddlers who see something fascinating and their parent just stops and looks with them 👀

Groups of teenagers who are just chilling out together and genuinely laughing with each other 😊

People litter picking because they care about their environment 🚮

The first budding flowers in the spring 🌺

What a lovely post. Agree with all your points. I’ve just sat behind a young couple at the traffic lights. They were in an open top car and seemed to be loving life. It really made me smile

Squirrels, sheep, cows . Oh and the hedgehog who ran across my path early morning as I was walking to the gym last week.

Dogs with huge sticks. Deer in the field near us. We are a bit rural.

Groups of older (I mean 70‘s and above) women in cafes having a good catch up and looking happy. One of them when asked what she wanted said ooh a hot chocolate and I thought yes you treat yourself ( that’s probably as my mum would be cats bum face at the disgustingness of that).

coming back from a night out a man with two quite tipsy women in the car at lights and they waved and smiled obviously having a fab night out.

so animals and people enjoying themselves in summary!

Ahh this is going to be a nice thread ☺️

One that makes me smile and also briefly feel highly emotional simultaneously - when I see a mum out and about with their toddler/very young child (especially when it’s their first, I’m sure I can tell ☺️) and they still have that time when to their child, they are the Best Person Ever and absolute Centre of their Universe. We only have one DD and she’s 18 now. When she was 4/5 we were thick as thieves and it’s such a beautiful time with them that goes so quickly and I do often miss it.

Yes also happy animals especially dogs!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/10/2026 14:38

In Service Guide Dogs with that "Yes, very important job going on here " look on their faces

Geese flying noisily in a "V" formation.

Toddlers out in the cold properly dressed up with boots , gloves , hats and cosy coats , in delight and wonder .

Little girls in party dresses playing , maybe at a wedding or something , enjoying running about .

The twenty pound note that was lying on the floor as I walked home.

foxywheaton75 · 02/10/2026 14:41

Great thread, dogs in cars with their heads out the window, living their life.
Lovely babies and toddlers, appreciate how hard it is but now mine are grown up, love to see other happy children out and about.

Boreded · 02/10/2026 14:43

Happy dogs in the vets - my cats always cry
Little girls in huge over the top princess dresses - usually at Disney

GossipIsTheDevilsTelephone · 02/10/2026 14:44

I love seeing people in cars singing away.

Cats randomly deciding they need a cuddle from someone passing and the delight on their faces.

When kids are playing football and it goes off the pitch, and an adult takes great delight in kicking it back.

I love seeing young couples walking about clearly very much in the early days of being loved up where they cant take their eyes off each other.

I also love seeing much older couples wandering about hand in hand.

When all the garden centres get their Christmas displays up and you see everyone's faces just light up. Magical.

adviceatthislatestage · 02/10/2026 14:45

It makes me smile when I see elderly couples holding hands or being affectionate towards each other. I was on the bus once and saw a couple in their 80s or so, just chatting. But could just see how much they loved each other. They got off at the same stop as me and the man helped his wife down off the step and then they toddled off together hand in hand. Made me smile and think aawww

Thingsthatgo · 02/10/2026 14:46

Crows - doing their funny skippity walk that they do, which doesn’t really go with their cool
goth vibe.

Iheartmysmart · 02/10/2026 14:52

Meeting dogs when I’m out walking and having a lovely fuss with them. I lost my old boy a few years ago and really miss having a dog in my life.

The cat who lives opposite me and uses the zebra crossing like a person when he wants to cross the road.

Seeing a little robin perched on the fence when I go outside. I read somewhere that they are a spiritual connection to someone who has passed away and like to think it’s my dad checking in on me.

REDB99 · 02/10/2026 14:54

Seeing a Robin Redbreast always makes me smile.

scoobs321 · 02/10/2026 14:56

A group of kids on their bikes with rucksacks on, off on an adventure somewhere instead of plugged in to their devices.

Cats, any cats, anywhere - I treat them like filmstars

canklesmctacotits · 02/10/2026 15:05

Groups of teens, girls or boys, out together and laughing so hard they’re doubled over and can’t speak. Love it.

Dads with toddler girls who think and feel like they’re indulging their girly silliness, not realising that aged 2 or 3 these girls already have their dads right where they want them. You can tell when the dad knows and when he doesn’t.

Overhearing primary school boys talking about sports with complete earnestness and commitment.

Young people stopping to help old people (cross the road, hold open a door, lift something up or down step).

People on public transport utterly engrossed in whatever they’re reading.

And, the familiarity of people who see each other every day at the same time in the same place: the coffee vendor with his regulars, the street cleaner in front of the grocer on his way into work, the UPS fellow crossing paths with the FedEx fellow. It’s like a Richard Scarry Busytown kind of life, the sort of interaction that hints at community.

DollopOfFun · 02/10/2026 15:06

Old adverts for things like Bile Beans, or Brasso that have been painted onto the sides of buildings.

spiderlight · 02/10/2026 15:09

What a lovely thread. I love seeing dogs carrying their own stuff - a ball, a teddy, a really good branch that they're so proud of. I once saw a dog trotting away from our local shop with his owner, proudly carrying a Battenburg cake.

I love seeing parents and children having a really good chat on the way to or from school, or a parent who's really engaged with a toddler's exploration of the world. Grandparents out having fun with little ones warm my heart as well. I saw a grandad and his tiny grandaughter collecting conkers in the park the other day and he was obviously having as much fun as her, trying to find the biggest one while she loaded his pockets.

Dr13Hadley · 02/10/2026 15:23

Cats
Foxes when I’m driving to work at stupid o clock in the morning
Old couples holding hands
Happy waggy dogs
Horses

midlifeattheoasis · 02/10/2026 15:27

Dogs hanging out of car windows never ceases to make me smile.

I have a dog and he’s never been bothered about hanging out of the window - which disappoints me greatly 😆

maddiemookins16mum · 02/10/2026 15:30

Weddings. There is something really special about seeing a wedding car enroute or people arriving at a church/town hall etc.

makeaplantpot · 02/10/2026 15:31

Wonderful thread.
I love the ambition of small dogs with oversized sticks.
Children doing a spontaneous skip.
A robin up close in the garden and the occasional flash of a goldfinch. Pigeons gathering at sunset, in a line, on the roof opposite us.
The sunset - it's been stunning recently.
Children waving from cars (or anywhere).
Our village carnival - everyone is always happy there.

Mildmanneredmum · 02/10/2026 15:31

Where I live - we stop way before a zebra crossing just in case someone who might be casually walking along the pavement might want to cross. Sometimes they wave us on, sometimes not. Everyone does it and it's lovely

APlagueOnBothYourHouses · 02/10/2026 15:35

I like seeing teenagers bombing around on their bikes or just walking to school together. It reminds me that they are children because sometimes they get vilified for doing things that they should be doing.

BeRoseSloth · 02/10/2026 15:37

When I’m on a bus and another bus is coming the other way and the two drivers wave at each other. Nice

Pootles34 · 02/10/2026 15:38

I took a photo of DH holding hands with DS at the seaside recently, on a rocky outcrop - hadn't realised at the time but also captured seven or eight other parents, all with trousers rolled up, shoes in hand, holding hands with a little one. So nice!
