A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

More info, now from the PM.

“there is indeed a strong indication that Iran played a part”. He said it was a complex and serious police investigation “but we can now confirm our belief that Iran played a part”.

So Trump and Rubio were telling the truth? No idea why they've been bailed.

I said to DH when they were bailed, they're under interrogation somewhere. Trump is being uncharistically quiet. I think the Americans have them.

Burnham has now commented (finally) and said that its going to be a "tough winter". No shit Sherlock.

Has he deliberately ignored this and the Iran link until after his conference, or am I being cynical?

We had a leaflet today in the post. What to do in a power cut. Not if, but when.

Last winter when we had an Azores high over the UK, we had no wind for three weeks, so windfarms fell still. We really are fooked.

DH is going to service the generator tomorrow, get in some cans of fuel, check the gas bottle levels BBQ. Both log stores are full to busting.

He's going to fill both his cars with diesel and keep them topped up instead of running on empty. In case of rationing. My car is petrol that's plentiful for now.

I've got cash in now as advised.

On another subject have people seen what is happening in France? High school kids rioting due to the dilapidated state of schools, lack of teachers, large classes etc. Let’s rejoin the EU - it’s nirvana!

Saw it. The kids are also setting fire to schools

Indeed.

Reading Burnham's words about the EU and his promises about electoral reform, I just kept thinking about the current state of Germany. No thanks.

Van Der liar says European savings accounts by individuals are lazy and stagnant so the EU are going to use that money and work it themselves. This will be done by issuing some type of ISA system encouraging it's citizens to move their money into these. Yeah right.

I think I heard someone say Andy Burnham when he was Health Secretary who used to wear 'Gucci ' Suits. Now as Prime Minister he looks like Eddie Yates the Bin Man from Coronation Street early 1980s. Shouldn't a Prime Minister be called Andrew not "Andy" Pathetic. I saw his Speech of shite and I could not help comparing the bit where he said what have they given us nothing , to a scene from the film Peterloo about Manchester's Peterloo Massacre in 1819. This, being where a Working Class Mancunian gets up on Stage and says the exact same words as Andy Burnham ! He has copied the words from a film depicting 1819 Manchester and tried to replicate it in to 2026 ! The man is of the planet !

This has got one of the most ridiculous things I have read on MN for a long. And let's face it, the competition is pretty strong.

"Shouldn't a Prime Minister be called Andrew not Andy?"

Seriously?

All I can say is thankfully he's not called Boris.

redange · 30/09/2026 22:05

No the most ridiculous thing I have ever read was the love in thread with a man who is the most contrived individual I have ever seen ! He read English at Cambridge, for Christ- Sake talk about creating am Image to fit the picture ! In another world or if he had been chosen Andy Burhnam could have been Richard Hammond on Top Gear, such is the Contrived Nature of this man and his Politics !

Good for you. I've done similar so I'm as ready as I can be. Its kept my brain occupied over this last awful few weeks which has been helpful. My Mum did some prepping every autumn ready for winter. 😊

Stocked up on flea and worm treatments for the dogs today as I'm worried about supply issues.
I'm struggling keeping my car filled though because I do a lot of miles for work. I won't be able to earn if there are diesel shortages.

We the posters of this Parish do not enter your part of Town and start trying to stir things up . We stay in our side of Town, so well do you come on here and try to provoke things. My suggestion is that you want us to say something not acceptable by the monitors and thus have us thrown of the site !

Okay, so I’ve looked a little bit at the speech AB gave yesterday

As far as I can see, there are a couple of positives in there

The first is potentially making it easier to take over the water companies, which really might need doing.

The second is getting the specifics that didn’t seem to be covered under leasehold reform.

EasternStandard · 01/10/2026 07:07

Taking on water companies is taking on a lot of taxpayer debt. I’m not sure how that will be paid for.

Just looking at the threads with posters heavily trailing Labour’s policies at least it’s not now, keeping up the sell for another three years is another thing.

CandidLurker · 01/10/2026 07:16

Yes I not sure what the options are regarding renationalisation.

i suppose they could just introduce more regulation which means it’s impossible to make a profit. Once they are near bankruptcy they could take them over?

justasking111 · 01/10/2026 08:07

Welsh water is nationalised. They have their issues still.

justasking111 · 01/10/2026 08:09

Talking of water can someone archive this article for us. It's most peculiar.

Thames Water are £20bn in debt. We can’t afford to take that on, not sure about other companies.

If Labour tried to avoid paying out having a look it seems they’d be faced with fierce legal challenges, pension fund issues and risk premium for U.K. investment.

I don't understand what you're getting at here. Sorry. 🤷‍♂️

It’s not the most in depth political critique, is it.

At this point I'm assuming they were useful idiots recruited on line and didnt know that they were playing a part in something much wider.

Agree. I take anything Trump and Rubio say with a shovel of salt. Most likely they were aware of “a plan” but did not know details. These lads are likely proxies recruited on message platforms with the promise of cash. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a dry run - hence not finding anything suspicious in the vans - to probe security and find weak spots. When they got there one of the lads’ brain cells kicked in and thought “hang on, what are we doing” and called the police to let them know.

Thats why the farmer who called actually saw lots of men in black/masks - that was the police response to the earlier call from the lad in the van.

Bringemout · 01/10/2026 08:32

I listened to a really interesting podcast a few years back I think about how you will probably see an increase in foreign funding of terrorist atttacks where people don’t necessarily know who they are working for or are basically just criminals and mercenaries

There was that pro-pal attack on a factory making jeeps (I think in Belgium), except they were actually making jeeps for Ukraine so I assume it was paid for by the russians.

It’s completely possible that this lot didn’t know who they were working for and what they were actually being paid to do.

CaveMum · 01/10/2026 08:46

It’s a huge problem, there was a BBC article the other day it not long ago focussed on a young Norwegian man who was recruited to murder someone (a political dissident) with the promise of cash.

The Foxtrot Network is thought to be responsible for about 35 murders in Europe, and uses violence-as-a-service tactics.
