A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Burnham campaigned on not re-joining the EU.

That’s a big thing to lie with to Makerfield.

Burnham said: “My view is that Brexit has been damaging, but I also believe the last thing we should do right now is rerun those arguments.”

Andy Burnham says he will not try to return UK to EU

Burnham vows to have ‘relentless domestic focus’ in Makerfield in first speech since announcing byelection run

Germany, France, Italy are moving so far to the right I think Burnham has made the right call for the labour party.

Do you mean to re-join @justasking111?

I’m not sure how countries moving to the right impact it. Or do you mean he’s just focusing on the Labour Party

Has he made a call? When speaking to the leave voting Makerfield he said that he not put rejoining on the agenda. When speaking at party conference he says he will. It all just depends on the audience. Just like he tells the Mauritians he pushing the Chagos deal and Trump he will look at it again. I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future he is at a pensioner gathering telling them of the wonders of the triple lock.

Yes this. He made a big deal about being straight with people.

Switching from not re-joining to promoting that in about four months is as insincere as it gets.

I mean he won't win any leftist requests, arguments in the EU. When le Pen and the AFD get control next year they'll get more insular not less. I'm not sure they'd even want us back under a left wing party.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/10/2026 10:04

He’s extremely insincere, I was literally boggling at the naivety of posters on a thread about his speech.

Same.

And these people are happy too.

Inmates released early by Andy Burnham thanked the Prime Minister as they left prison today.

One leaving HMP Brixton in south London at 9am said he was “over the moon” after being freed just a third of the way through his sentence. Asked whether he had a message for the Prime Minister, he said: “Thank you mate, I appreciate it.”

I said to DH when they were bailed, they're under interrogation somewhere. Trump is being uncharistically quiet. I think the Americans have them.

That’s a plausible idea I think.

Yep, so true.
He just says what he thinks his audience wants to hear. I posted about this before he won Makerfield as I've seen him do it irl. He also changes his accent slightly depending on who he's speaking to.

Sickening isn't it. I can't imagine how their victims feel knowing they're out. So much for caring about vawg too.

Re the water thing

I looked into it awhile ago and it’s insanely complicated because apparently the privatisation came attached to quite a lot of legal stuff

But I think… please correct me if I’m wrong… the current situation would obviously require special legal measures and then a huge amount of money from the public purse

The changes seem to be about buying shares and then having more influence. I’m sure this will mean that some friend of the government would be able to buy shares and have more of an influence.

There’s probably an easier way of holding water companies to account? But on the surface the fact that somebody is trying to do this looks like a good thing to me.

The devil will be in the detail, of course. It may turn out to be a total dud.

hopefully the leasehold legislation is straightforward enough. I know they had to rush it through before the end of the last government, but they left some really obvious things off the table from the beginning if I recall correctly.

Surely no co-incidence that the next wave of early release is just after "The Burnham Love Fest"?

I thought Labour promised to get rid of leaseholds alltogether in the GE campaign? Are they now just reforming?

Bond yields continue to rise 30 year bonds are now at 6%.

Im really worried about just how much damage Burnhams Labour could do. I know many people just dont register the bond markets, but these rises are going to have a huge impact on us all

His willingness to say anything at any point just to get applause is what’s so striking about Burnham. I don’t think he’s a liar in the way that Starmer was, but what comes out of Burnham’s mouth is just as untrustworthy because it’s only whatever suits him at the time.

Has anyone else noticed his habit of standing with open arms like a gameshow host? He’s such a twat.

Yes very worrying. Not helped by the Chancellor who managed to speak for a whole 40 minutes at conference without mentioning tax or spending cuts. Its little wonder that the cost of borrowing continues to rise.

How depressing 😞

It marks the first time that any G7 nation has faced an interest rate of more than 6pc on its debt since Italy during the eurozone debt crisis in 2012.
