Christa Pike execution: Tennessee governor rejects clemency plea

If the execution proceeds, Pike would be the first woman put to death in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

Don’t agree with what? That she’s been there 30 years? That she is being executed?

I don’t agree with the death penalty but the years taken allow for appeals, new evidence, etc.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 29/09/2026 07:09

I don't agree with the death penalty, but this woman committed an absolutely hideous crime. As usual she came from a very abusive and troubled background, which should have probably been taken into account when sentencing. Life in jail is enough of a sentence IMO.

Toastytina · 29/09/2026 07:24

I dont agree with death penalty or 30 years waiting for it.

Another one bites the dust....awwww what a shame ....
Shame the death penalty hasn't stretched to the UK... Free up some space

Copperoliverbear · 29/09/2026 07:41

We should have the death penalty here. All paedos, murders and rapists should be hung we would have a lot more room in prison for smaller criminals to be punished and bring this country back to order.

She was waiting for it; she was trying to avoid it. It was 30 years because she filed numerous appeals and requests for the sentence to be overturned or commuted. Unless you're suggesting that the ability to appeal is removed?

GoodkneeBadKnee · 29/09/2026 07:43

Nah, it's fine.

And what about people like the poor man that spent 17years in jail for a rape he did not commit?

Copperoliverbear · 29/09/2026 07:52

@SartiSpritz DNA is very advanced now to be able to distinguish if someone is guilty.

DNA doesnt determine guilt. DNA is only really helpful if the victim and the perpetrator are unknown to each other and the perpetrator denies contact.

This is what people don't understand about unprocessed rape kits. A swab that determines that a man left semen inside a woman's vagina isn't really relevant if he says they had consensual sex. It isn't going to add to evidence against him unless one can prove that there is no way the woman would have ever consented to sex with him.

I’m so sad about this case. What Colleen the victim went through was unbelievable torture.
But the woman about to be killed whilst a horrific human, was raped from aged 2 by her caregivers and that started a trajectory of rape and abuse that followed her, she was 18 I believe she planned and sadly executed the horrific murder of Colleen.
I believe Christa Pike has remained a vile person in prison but I can’t get over the trauma she endured as an actual baby. It could fuck anyone up.

Yes, great idea: instead of just raping women and children, a rapist might as well go ahead and murder them too. Then the victim can’t identity them, and if they are caught, the punishment is the same in any case.
Great thinking 🙄

JohnofWessex · 29/09/2026 08:44

Under UK law there were '4 clear Sundays' between sentencing and execution as it was though unreasonable to leave someone on Death Row for any length of time.

When as happens in the US prisoners are held under sentence of death for decades the penalty becomes arbitary with the clear link between the offence and execution being broken.

In addition many on death row would probably not live that long were they not in prison

Its bizarre and inhumane

I agree with you. Same way chemical castration is far more dangerous for the victim until the person wants it.
If you take away a sadists use of his penis he’ll just use objects to rape which can be fatal.

Christa Pike has been rehabilitated and is now helping other prisoners. She is incredibly remorseful about the murder.

I will never agree with the death penalty. What she did was awful. But killing her isn't the answer.

It doesn’t mention her attack on Patrica Jones whilst in prison, as far as I can see but I did scan it very quickly as I’m in a huge rush today.

Either way, the death penalty I disagree with and I can’t imagine her trauma.

I can hold out my sympathies for both Colleen and her family but also see how ending Christa’s life is just perpetuating a cycle of abuse caused by men. I feel bad for everyone in this case.

QueenOfAccountability · 29/09/2026 10:44

The problem with the death penalty is that the person put to death doesn't feel anything, they just die. The people it punishes are that persons family members, and they haven't done anything wrong.

Having said that, I definately think that prisoners with life sentences should be allowed to be euthanised, if they wish. It can't be very nice being them.

Loads of them wait that long. In some US states, more death row inmates die of natural causes than by execution.

In Utah, someone has just today been released from Death Row after decades there following new DNA tests and significant investigator misconduct. The Death Penalty has no place in 2026.

There was a man from Birkenhead on the Wirral recently freed after 38 years of being believed to be a murderer last year.

Anthea27 · 29/09/2026 15:40

I don't agree with the death penalty, I think its barbaric and has no place in modern society. I thank God that we don't have it in this country. At least if you are wrongly convicted here, then you know you've got time to fight your conviction, without the executioners clock ticking above your head. I know Christa Pike is a murderer who took an innocent young woman's life but to make her spend 30 years in prison, knowing at any time she could be taken away and executed, to live every day knowing that you are going to be strapped to a gurney and be murdered in front of a room full of witnesses is horrific and isn't justice, in my eyes, it makes the state just as bad as she is. I think life should mean life and she should never be released from prison. This case in particular is hard hitting, i know what she did was unforgivable but she was a teenager who'd had a terrible life and was suffering from an untreated mental illness at the time. No excuse for what she did but I believe its a valid excuse for not executing her. If we had the death penalty here then the likes of Lucy Letby would currently be waiting on death row and look at all the questions circulating around her conviction. I'm not saying whether i believe Lucy Letby is innocent or guilty, only that if, one day, it did turn out that she was innocent, then at least she'd still be alive.

You don't agree with what?

You want someone convicted to be able to have some many appeals etc,, the original judgment somehow gets cancelled?

Or that there's a cap on appeals so prisoners get executed faster? Sounds like a dangerous move.
