She us scheduled to be executed tomorrow, hideous crime no doubt. But after 30.years? I dont agree with it.

Christa Pike execution: Tennessee governor rejects clemency plea

If the execution proceeds, Pike would be the first woman put to death in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

The death penalty has no place in civilised society, imo. It's disgusting.

I fully understand wanting certain evil criminals dead, but I still don't agree with it.

Really vengeance has no place in a civilised society.

Her execution was halted at the last moment: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw20vxxn876no

Unlike Caryl Chessman, I take it they managed to dial the right number ?

I just l posted the link. I am not getting into the ins and outs of anything. I am fervently against the death penalty but I don’t have the energy to debate today. I just wanted to update the thread with the latest information.

We should have the death penalty here. All paedos, murders and rapists should be hung we would have a lot more room in prison for smaller criminals to be punished and bring this country back to order.

💯 agree

Did she get a last meal? I wonder what she had.

Well it wasn’t her last meal because she’s still alive as I updated.

Yes, but the prison officers wouldn't have known about the last-minute stay, so they would have been following procedure including giving the condemned a last slap-up meal.

i read that she was offered but declined a last meal while it was assumed that her execution was going ahead. The whole thing is barbaric, her crime, the decades of appeals and waiting, then knowing that today is the day and then the last minute postponement.

@MadMAGAI understand exactly what you mean. I'm actually a hypocrite as I say I don't agree with the death penalty yet I could have flicked the switch myself on evil Jamie Varley who tortured and abused poor baby Preston Davey and the Axel thing that murdered and maimed the girls in Southport. Before anyone has a go at me, I'm fully aware of how hypocritical I sound.

That's how I feel, I am opposed to the death penalty but have what I feel is a very understandable emotional reponse to such unspeakable crimes, I read about the horrors people like that have inflicted and think "just kiil the bastard"

OonaStubbs · 30/09/2026 18:02

Surely it's crueller to keep someone alive with a figurative noose around their neck for 30 years than it is to just carry out the execution right away?

My point being that she will have another meal, because it’s not her last. So you can’t call it that and it loses its relevance. Also you know little about the death penalty in the US so it would seem, because many places just give the condemned the same meal as the rest of the prisoners have that evening, there is no special slap up meal - you can Google it.

I've read what she did and although I am against the death penalty I'm happy to make an exception in her case. I'll be delighted when they dispense with her.

So you aren't really against the death penalty at all then ?

Quite, you either are or you aren’t. Also you can’t be a vegetarian and eat fish.

@dustabsorber I looked it up, Tennessee cap their customised meals at $20… that’s slap up to you? Also she declined a meal. All of this is available if you look it up. Guess you didn’t as you were too busy rubbing your hands together in glee to use the keyboard.

Being against the death penalty, except when you think someone deserves it, is rather like being against murder but making exceptions for people you REALLY don’t like. 🤯

lepara · 30/09/2026 18:24

I'm always baffled at how a condemned person could even swallow food, not to mind eat a slap up "last meal" while awaiting the barbaric process of someone murdering you by a timetable. How do they do it? - eat the last meal I mean, not pull the switch or whatever.

I'm against it being a legal option available to courts.

If that's pro-death penalty, then I guess I am.

Practice ?

cramptramp · 30/09/2026 18:34

Yes it’s far too long. Should have been executed years ago.

The endless waiting for appeals, etc must be awful for all involved, not just Christa & any relatives she might have but for the victim’s family never knowing whether she’ll win an appeal, whether the sentence will be changed.
It’s just prolonging things unnecessarily.

Jail her for life without parole, no appeals & be done with it.

aCatCalledFawkes · 30/09/2026 22:21

I think the process is barbaric even when people agree with it. I can't imagine in what world I would take a job that centered around organising and being present at executions. Imagine working for the press and today your job is watching someone being executed, for which you have no skills for and have to go home to your family.

What she did was hideous but makes me wonder what kind of person would want to hold down a now 50yr old woman and watch it to the end. One of the fundamental things is she doesn't have to agree because they are going to force her anyway.

Rondayvu · 30/09/2026 22:27

If you participate surely you are as bad as she is? Execution no matter how it is done is still murder.
