She us scheduled to be executed tomorrow, hideous crime no doubt. But after 30.years? I dont agree with it.

Christa Pike execution: Tennessee governor rejects clemency plea

If the execution proceeds, Pike would be the first woman put to death in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

I've just read on the BBC website that Christa has been taken to hospital after two injections of phenobarbital during the execution, audibly snoring, and her heart still beating. How utterly horrifying and barbaric. If that's not cruel and unusual punishment, I don't know what is.

WallaceinAnderland · 01/10/2026 04:57

"One of her attorneys told the BBC that Pike, 50, was "being provided life-saving measures" in hospital after two syringes of pentobarbital had been administered."

This is crazy. They try to kill her and now they're trying to save her life.

They completely botched another one back in may same doctor as well definitely some questions need answering,if she survives I think there is a legal argument for she submitted herself for execution, the lethal injection was administered, therefore it shouldn't be attempted again.

God it is horrific now that they messed up the execution.

it’s been so drawn out, with so many appeals. Surely this is just awful now for the victims family. It would have been cheaper, more ethical and ultimately fairer to the victims family to have jailed her for life at the start.

Her childhood is one of the most horrific things I’ve read. She was sexually and physically abused by multiple people from the age of 2. She first attempted suicide at the age of 11. She must be so messed up in the head. She did an awful thing and from her behaviour in prison it seems like she remains a violent, dangerous person who should spend the rest of her life in prison. But I don’t think anyone should be put to death.

I totally agree reading about her childhood is what made me against the death penalty in this case, but those who committed those despicable crimes against her in childhood, I would absolutely support the death penalty in these cases.

Interesting article about the last execution they botched with a view from medical professionals. It seems like this senario was entirely predictable.

Be interesting to see if they do attempt it again down the line. I suspect there will be major legal challenges

Nonimity · 01/10/2026 06:40

We are seeing the news on Christa because executing a female is unusual. The judicial system in the USA is so flawed and biased toward white privilege. This reminds me of the case of Robert Pruitt, who was imprisoned for 99 years at the age of 18 ish for a murder committed by his father ‚ it’s called „trial by parties“ - he was guilty by being there and a party to the murder. You can be held more accountable if you dont plea bargain. I think his father got 50 years, but the son, who was dismissive and rude in court , was locked up for ever. He went on to murder a prison guard and was executed- but should never have been in prison in the first place.

I’m so sad about this case. What Colleen the victim went through was unbelievable torture.
But the woman about to be killed whilst a horrific human, was raped from aged 2 by her caregivers and that started a trajectory of rape and abuse that followed her, she was 18 I believe she planned and sadly executed the horrific murder of Colleen.
I believe Christa Pike has remained a vile person in prison but I can’t get over the trauma she endured as an actual baby. It could fuck anyone up.

I agree with this but we can’t allow people who have had traumatic childhoods to torture and kill others. She gave a death sentence to that poor woman she killed, and a life of grieving to her family who had to know what their loved one endured. She should never get out of prison for that alone.

I agree. These sorts of things are why I don’t agree with the death penalty.

However, I do think that Christa Pike is likely to be a psychopath. Carrying a piece of her victim’s skull??

It just seems crazy to me that in one state they execute you and in another you’d get life without parole.

Missey85 · 30/09/2026 08:26

She's a convicted murderer she gets what she deserves 🤷 imagine if she killed your child would you be happy to see her get away with it? I'm guessing you wouldn't

I dont think life in prison is a life anyone would want to endure. Arguably the death penalty is the way out of a joyless life in prison and often welcomed by the inmate

Nobody is saying that she should be a free woman. She did an awful thing and attempted murder again in prison. I think it is an utterly tragic situation.

How could she ever have turned out “normal” . She grew up abused and surrounded by poverty and addiction, the youth center where she committed her crime was poorly run and later closed down. Then she hung around with other violent people in prison, then she spent 30 years in solidarity confinement, in the size of a parking space with no meaningful contact.

She shouldn’t be let out, it wouldn’t be safe but she never got a chance at life either. She has been let down by the state from the moment of her birth to an alcoholic mother to this botched execution.

I know plenty of people that have been abused, I work in social work, some of them from infants. None of them have gone on to inflict that pain on another person, cut them, beat them, carry round skull parts. She also attempted to kill someone years later in prison.

most rapists, murderers etc have some form of trauma in their background. What’s the solution? Knock off parts of a sentence because of it.

ItsAlwaysTwins · 01/10/2026 07:55

This botched execution is absolutely barbaric. What happens now? I sincerely hope they don’t attempt it again.

I agree. And surely she has brain damage as a result of this, now?

EmpressStorm · 01/10/2026 08:07

I was also shocked reading this, and can’t beleive it happened, apparently she was snoring away and they had to shut the microphones off so those viewing stopped hearing it and then shut the curtains, she’s in hospital. No info I think on the impact ?

I think they have now paused executions so they won’t try again, but good god, how on earth do they get this wrong, if you’re not doing it right due to veins etc then you stop, and say so. Not crack on and hope for the best.

Mischance · 01/10/2026 08:10

"Pike was physically and sexually abused by several of her mother's husbands and boyfriends, and raped several times, once when she was 11 and again aged 17. Later, it was discovered that she was repeatedly raped as a toddler by her grandmother's boyfriend."
She also had PTSD and bipolar disorder.

Should a society kill the mentally ill?

Her crime was horrific ... that is not in question.

She has been jailed though. That the family actively want her killed is their issue. Imprisonment was evidently not enough for them.

And what about people like the poor man that spent 17years in jail for a rape he did not commit?

Death sentence was for murder only. There have been miscarriages of justice in the past. Now with DNA, CCTV etc less chance of the wrong person being convicted.
I'm a bit on the fence about death sentence but I think if you take someones life deliberately a life sentence should mean whole life (which i beleive was meant to be the case when the UK death sentence was repealed)

Rondayvu · 01/10/2026 08:40

Could not believe my ears this morning. How horrific. I did not realise the 'stay' was only for a few hours I assumed days/weeks for some reason but to find out they went ahead and administered 2 lethal injections and it did not work is barbaric.

IzzyLeng · 01/10/2026 08:48

What about her boyfriend who also took part in the murder? Was he executed? I’m going to guess not. 🤷🏻‍♀️

He was under 18, and is still in prison.

Lexibletheflexible · 01/10/2026 08:51

I think it should be up to the prisoner.

There are some people here who will never leave institutions even though they don't have a life sentence as such. If they make it back out to the community, they'll soon be back in under lock and key somewhere.

I think they should be given the chance of euthanasia if they want it as well as whole lifers. Any lifer, really.

I don't think death is something you should give out as a punishment.
