She us scheduled to be executed tomorrow, hideous crime no doubt. But after 30.years? I dont agree with it.

Tennessee Department of Corrections inmate photo of Christa Pike, Tennessee's only woman on death row.

Christa Pike execution: Tennessee governor rejects clemency plea

If the execution proceeds, Pike would be the first woman put to death in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

Will she get all females hiving her the injection?

what difference could that possibly make?

Anthea27 · 29/09/2026 15:55

@dontforgetofeedthecat Christa has requested an all female execution "squad" due to past trauma at the hands of men, including being raped by men from the age of 2 onwards. Christa has said it will add to the trauma of the situation if she is handled and manoevered by men onto the gurney and is surrounded by only men in the small execution chamber.

I don't agree with the death penalty the way it's used in the countries that have it today. 30 years on death row is hideous.

I'd quite like it used on dangerous predators and murderers like Axel Rudakubana, but realise there's an awful lot more to it than that. Where do you draw the line to say that someone is undoubtedly guilty and irredeemably evil? Who's going to kill them and how?

Anthea27 · 29/09/2026 16:07

@MadMAGAI understand exactly what you mean. I'm actually a hypocrite as I say I don't agree with the death penalty yet I could have flicked the switch myself on evil Jamie Varley who tortured and abused poor baby Preston Davey and the Axel thing that murdered and maimed the girls in Southport. Before anyone has a go at me, I'm fully aware of how hypocritical I sound.

It’s not hypocritical. You’re recognising that there is - quite rightly - a difference between your emotional knee-jerk reaction to an horrific crime and actual workable policy. I wish more people would grasp that difference, as the hang ‘em and flog ‘em brigade are getting louder by the day.

CeliaSolis · 29/09/2026 16:19

She has not shown genuine remorse. She has said time and time again "why am I the only one on death row when there were 3 of us?" and "telling me my execution date a year in advance is cruel". Completely ignoring the cruelty she bestowed upon her victim and how hard it must have been for her family every day since.

The death penalty is for cases exactly like this. May she receive the exact level of compassion she showed all those years ago.

Anthea27 · 29/09/2026 16:26

@sprigatito thank you for your sensible and interesting explanation of my feelings. I never thought of it like that but you are right, knee jerk reactions aren't the one's to go with, an eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind. It's a frightening world.

Perhaps you could think a little about compassion yourself.

I have more compassion for the victim and her family

The victim could have been my kid. She didn't deserve any of it and she never got a chance to have a life.

Ethics aside the death penalty does not work. USA's murder rate is 5 times that of the UK, so no, I don't think we should follow them.

when you say it does not work, what do you mean exactly?

Because surely it prevent recidivism?

When you compare murder rates between death penalty states and non death penalty states it's consistently higher where the death penalty exists. Aside from the fact it has no place in a civilised society, the idea that it can be a deterrent is demonstrably nonsense.

MyPurpleHeart · 29/09/2026 16:53

I agree with the death penalty.

That guy that recently got sentenced to death for abducting that little girl when delivering her Christmas presents in his delivery van, doing awful awful things to her on video and dumping her body? I'm glad thats the punishment he got, and I'm glad he will spend 30 long years waiting for it. I have no compassion for people evil enough to be sentenced to death.

This woman not only killed a woman in satanic circumstances, but walked around with a piece of her skull in her pocket like a trophy and took it to school and showed it off. It took the girls mother years to get it back so she could bury her baby in one piece.

Nobody deserved any of what happened to them in this horrible situation.

She got to live 30 years longer than her victim.

the only thing that "happened" to the convicted criminal is that they got caught!
Which is why my sympathy is low.

I am sure they would have preferred to have never been found out.

FindingMeno · 29/09/2026 17:05

I can't bring myself to care in a world where innocent babies and children are blown up and the world does nothing and just sees them as numbers.

BabblingBiddy · 29/09/2026 09:59

I will never agree with the death penalty. What she did was awful. But killing her isn't the answer.

Agreed. The eye for an eye nonsense is not how a civilised country should behave. And there are waaaaay too many miscarriages of justice to trust in our system in any case.

Another one bites the dust....awwww what a shame ....
Shame the death penalty hasn't stretched to the UK... Free up some space

Isn’t that attitude how Australia was colonized?!

The US does not have "an eye for an eye" policy.

Other countries do, but the US don't. There's no qisas in the states

Christa Pike has been rehabilitated and is now helping other prisoners. She is incredibly remorseful about the murder.

I wonder if this rehabilitation took place after 2001?

I ask because in 2001, she tried to kill another prisoner called Patricia Jones.

If so, praise be for the miracle.

dottiedodah · 29/09/2026 17:17

I think certain cases should be possible under the Death penalty. However which ones are difficult to decide upon. There was a programme a few years ago, where a guy who was high on crack knocked on the door of a family ,raped and killed the poor little 4 year old and her Mum .The Grandma was fed up as it had been 25 years and still waiting .Also had a fucking Cat! in prison. This particular case is sad. but many women are badly treated by men and dont all become murderers ! Yes I would welcome a death sentence for the worst crimes .It would be a last resort for judges

workshy46 · 29/09/2026 17:19

When do you stop being a victim though - she clearly was one her whole life which was horrific .. apparently the only person who showed her any kindness was her grandmother and when she died lost all hope. She was 18 when she committed the crime, so so young. I definitely don’t think she deserves the death penalty although I’m against it in principle. Horrific crime but she will have spent all her life in prison as is 🤷‍♀️

milveycrohn · 29/09/2026 17:28

I do not agree with the death penalty as there have been a few miscarriages of justice; ie the wrong person was actually executed (in this country).
Most notorious was the case of Timothy Evans executed for a crime committed by his downstairs neighbour, John Christie (2 different people executed for the same crime).
