She us scheduled to be executed tomorrow, hideous crime no doubt. But after 30.years? I dont agree with it.

Tennessee Department of Corrections inmate photo of Christa Pike, Tennessee's only woman on death row.

Christa Pike execution: Tennessee governor rejects clemency plea

If the execution proceeds, Pike would be the first woman put to death in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

A friend of mine is old enough to remember when the UK had the Death Penalty and he felt that it coarsened society

Also of course there is the effect that it has on anyone who however peripherally is involved in dealing with a capital prisoner. Certainly most of those who went through a capital trial in the UK at least only ever did it once.

I dont agree with death penalty or 30 years waiting for it.

My issue is that it's taken too long but I also get how lawyers and different groups use different measures to delay and delay.

Her crime was horrible so I don't really have a problem with the penalty even though at this point they might as well commute it to life.

The bigger issue for me is the family of the victim and the fact that Collen the victim has not yet been buried due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Her body has literally been kept as evidence and cannot be laid to rest until this is resolved one way or another.

There was a terrible miscarriage of justice with poor old Timothy Evans .However conversely James Hanratty the A6 murderer was hanged in 1963 ,His family moaned that he was innocent .However DNA tests carried out on Valerie Storrys underwear proved it beyond a doubt to be him!

What about the 30 years her victim never got to see?

HonestDears · 30/09/2026 07:07

To me, as a mum, its about colleens poor mother having some kind of peace and closure. If it were my child ,and the killer carried their fucking skull in their pocket, as a trophy of their sickening attack , then id want them to suffer till their last breath. Christa was 18 . She knew right from wrong. She spoke of her own abuse often enough so she knew what she was doing. And as a victim of abuse as a child myself, I felt no desire to go carve a pentagram into a girl i took great pleasure in torturing to death then brag to my classmates that i have her skull in my pocket. Shes had 30 extra years. She could have took the plea bargain but she actually believed she was gonna be going home at some point. Entitled as fuck even back then..Rest in peace colleen. X

We should have the death penalty here. All paedos, murders and rapists should be hung we would have a lot more room in prison for smaller criminals to be punished and bring this country back to order.

You do realise that the death penalty makes no difference to criminal behaviour - otherwise American prisons would be empty 🙄

IzzyLeng · 30/09/2026 07:15

Regardless of what she did she was 18yo with undiagnosed bipolar. Sure she was an adult (just) but the fact she had undiagnosed mental health issues makes me think that she shouldn’t be getting executed.

CurlewKate · 30/09/2026 07:29

Impossible to have a conversation on this subject on here because of the string ‘em up brigade.

ItsAlwaysTwins · 30/09/2026 07:44

The average time spent on death row in the USA, where the convicted is ultimately executed, is around 23 years.

The US death-penalty system costs taxpayers far more than sentencing someone to life imprisonment without parole.

If Christa Pike is executed today (and I hope she won’t be), the system that imposes death as the ultimate punishment has kept her alive, imprisoned and under threat of execution for decades while her the case was litigated. Execution is never ok, but prolonged incarceration followed by execution after 30 years is not a defensible form of justice.

Laiste · 30/09/2026 07:51

Moors murderers. Recording themselves torturing and killing a child. Should have had the death penalty. Since then there have been soooo many killers and torturers of children who should just be sent on their way. The cunt who stabbed those little girls at their dance class. Save us a fortune in keeping them in their creature comforts in prison for decades. And save the prison officers from attacks.

They killed a kid - they deserve to die.

OonaStubbs · 30/09/2026 07:52

I agree with the death penalty and there should not be anything like appeals that take 30 years to get through. It should be sentence then execution in short order. Her crime was horrific, there was no doubt that she did it, she deserved to die, but 30 years ago not now.

But what about the many times that we get it wrong and an innocent person is executed? There was an example of this just yesterday.

Is it just 'tough luck' for these individuals?

clearly it does, because the convicted criminals can't strike again.

Release everyone like we do, and see what happens.

So because one person was guilty despite protests to the contrary that balances out the death of an innocent person. The death of an innocent person at the hands of the state is a price worth paying to ensure that we can kill the prisoners who are guilty?

I am not judging any response, I am genuinely interested.

I have similar views to an earlier poster in that personally I feel like I could probably throw the switch on certain people who have committed truly awful crimes but I disagree with the death penalty. This is because I understand that acting on my emotions is not always the correct course of action, as much as it might personally pain me.

I absolutely do not want the death penalty in this country and I personally would be happy to see some convicted criminals dead and might even personally contribute to that of given the opportunity.

These things can all be true and absolutely do not make me a hypocrite. They make me aware that my emotions are not always the best steer for a course of action and grateful that those decisions are not in my hands but in the hands of the Law

I dont understand this. We have a much lower murder rate in thia country than on the US. So we do release more people after shorter sentences than in the US but our murder and serious crime rates ( even taking into.account different the population sizes) are much lower.

The death penalty does not reduce crime rates, that is an almost indisputable fact looking at all the countries in the world thst have it

She is due to die at 4pm our time, it just seems so medieval. She was an evil teenager, but I cant get my head around it. And the method is barbaric.

She's a convicted murderer she gets what she deserves 🤷 imagine if she killed your child would you be happy to see her get away with it? I'm guessing you wouldn't

Toastytina · 30/09/2026 08:33

If she killed my child, id want her locked up for life. I dont condone killing no matter what the circumstances.

You are suggesting that someone closely affected by a family murder would feel vengeful and want to kill in return? Those feelings should not be the basis for a justice system.

Research suggests that execution of the perpetrator does not help the victims families.

So you think two wrongs make a right? Do you really want to be part of a society that murders people? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against punishment, but how is death a punishment? It’s painless and then you’re no longer here to suffer the consequences of your actions. It’s the easy way out. The problem in this country is imprisoning people who don’t pose a risk to the public, who then take up space, leading to overcrowding and potentially resulting in sex offenders and people who do pose a risk to the public being let out on licence, free to reoffend. Peodos and most sex offenders (not all) cannot be rehabilitated IMO. They need to be locked up. Criminals who don’t pose a risk to the public should be punished in a different way so they’re not taking up a cell that could be used by someone who genuinely needs to be kept off the streets

Injection, which can be botched and slow. I cant undersrand why they cang be given an overdose of GA, not painful and quick.

Wrong on so many levels. She was only 18 at the time of the crime. So not fully mature. After 30 years, she can't possibly be the same person. I suppose at least death will get her off the living hell that death row must be.

The only positive for carrying out the death penalty is that it could give closure to the family of the victim. But what if it doesn't?

Martin Luther King's widow didn't want the death penalty for his assassin. She found peace through forgiveness.

I think it's just about showing the power of the state.

dottiedodah · 30/09/2026 09:35

bumblingbovine49 Sorry I didnt mean that way! My point is that people who have committed terrible crimes should have an extra point of punishment .It was done away with because of fears of miscarriage of justice .Like you I dont agree in principle ,but dreadful cases like the moors murderers ,Axel Rudakubana and similar I just feel after 25 years in prison will they ever be rehabilited ? probably not .It costs a fortune to keep them there ,and Ian Brady died in prison having to be buried at sea, as no funeral homes wished to be connected to him.
