There were lots of programmes recently for the anniversary of 9/11.

I realised that many of my colleagues were either not born when it happened or were so young at the time that they had no memory of it.

I think I just had my “oh god I’m that old” moment 🫣

Went to the museum and they had a cassette tape on display.

When I was telling my daughter-in-law about Robbie Williams leaving Take That.

Asking for chips at the leisure centre cafe after swimming with DC. Woman on the counter looked at me like I'd tried to order crack cocaine and explained that "its only healthy food".

In my defence, I grew-up in the 80s and 90s and fondly remember when 'swimming' for kids was a fun activity with flumes, wave machine, the lazy river, water jets and jumping off the diving boards etc. We'd get chips and juice as a rare treat after. Some of my best childhood memories. It was to me like an amusement park activity rather than about healthy living and exercise. Now the same pool is focused on health and fitness rather than fun and I seem to have missed when this cultural shift happened.

I don't know why it bothers me. I'm not against healthy eating and exercise but sometimes it feels like the fun has been sucked out of everything.

At a wildlife centre type place they had armadillos.
Ooh I said, soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside!

Everyone looked at me in total horror and I realised I was the oldest person there by a good 20 years.

🤣🤣🤣

When I saw an old woman in the shop window; it was me 🤪

When I look at car drivers, and they are almost always younger than me.
When did that happen?

The young lad doing work experience in the local charity shop was holding an old telephone handset. Asked me what it was and I replied it was a Landline. He didnt know what a landline was, couldn't believe it was a phone, no way could he fit that in his back pocket!

My 14 year old grandson said he wanted a laptop for Xmas. My mother in law, 89 said she had a spare one he could have. We both looked surprised. Then she walked into her kitchen and came out with a large padded dinner tray !!

I used to really enjoy computers, smart phones and tech in general and now i am sick of trying to keep up with it. I don't want a fucking app for every single thing, i don't want AI giving me a precis of my emails on my phone, went to do a click and collect and was getting the relevant email up on my phone screen and there was a "helpful" AI summary telling me what the contents were. I hate QR codes when eating out, just give me a menu, I hate self service in evey bloody shop now, yes i feel like a right miserable old git. I hate being bombarded with stupid messages from things like Trainline, saying dumb stuff like "only 10 days til your trip". In actual fact the trip is for a very sad reason, it's not a jolly outing so these stupid messages make me upset as well as angry. My broadband crashed the other day and the old "turn it on then turn it off" didn't work, they sent me a link on my phone to which i had to click to allow them to access the camera on my phone so I could do a live stream of the non functioning connection box and they kept barking at me about these different lights and were they flickering, off or steady. Felt so thick and useless. They had to send an engineer in the end as they could not fix it remotely. Two days with no internet, i read a book and listened to the radio, it was so calming even though I could have been part of a living museum showing how people entertained themselves in the olden days!

my colleagues at work... customer was called Fernando and one of them mentioned that it always makes her think of Cher singing

I spent several seconds thinking but but but (in my defence, I haven't seen Mamma Mia)

Handrearedmagpie · Yesterday 22:49

Definately 9/11 this year for me, I made a comment about why day it was to a bunch of colleagues and then realised they had only been babies when it happened.

also, a much younger colleague inviting me out for her birthday, but not her actual birthday night out, one with her mum and aunties 🤣

I bought some paracetamol at a pharmacy and paid the student pharmacist in cash, the exact amount (it was a good excuse to get rid of some of my small change). It was £1.49, pound coin and a mix of 10/20/5/2/1p coins to make up the rest. I even handed it over by counting into her hand. She checked it and checked it again and looked at it in puzzlement. I asked if it was all there, she just said she wasn't used to handling coins and couldn't work out how to add it up. Bloody hell.

It is the not being able to add them up that is concerning!

When I had to explain to my much younger boss how a fax machine worked. (We had one in the office gathering dust).

My mind boggles at that now because I remember that film coming out and 1963 seemed like some bygone era whereas 2005 seems like yesterday viewed from today.

Yes, like in the 90s my dad listened to 1960s music which seemed prehistoric. And now I listen to 90s music....

I had a lovely chat with a man who'd come to help with a job in my garden. As he was leaving he said he thought me and his mum would really get on well together.

LancashireButterPie · Yesterday 23:01

My husband (teacher) was using the urinal in the male staff room at work, when a student walked straight in.
Husband said "please leave, this is the staff toilet" to which the "student" replied.....yes I'm the new chemistry teacher. (Age 22!).

My friends new grandchild is called Hilda and all I can think is "Ogden".

Clevs · Yesterday 23:03

Students that I mentor at work weren’t even born when I started the job 😢

My colleague said to me recently “I’ve got the keys”. I responded by saying “I’ve got the secret” and our (21 year old) student just looked at us blankly. She’d never heard of the song.

Ilovelblue · Yesterday 23:07

My friend has adopted a rescue dog called Lola. I always think of the Barry Manilow song "Her name was Lola". I mentioned this to a young person of my acquaintance only yesterday who said "Oh yes, my grandma likes Barry Manilow". That really did make me feel old.
