My 'god I'm old' moment happens regularly when I access my phone camera and it's in selfie mode. Then this furrowed older lady with wild hair (just like Worzel Gummidge, in fact) stares back at me...and for a moment I think 'who the hell is she?'.

Very interesting points, teenagers now flocking to Oasis gigs and buying their music would have been like someone in your class in the 80"s being into Frank Sinatra and going to the gigs!, although if you were into rock music it was acknowledged that the Golden Age was the 1960"s and 70"s and it was cool to explore those albums, we had a kind of awed feeling knowing that we were just on the edge looking back at an era that could only happen once with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix and everything in between, the problem is that there has not been much youth culture after the 90"s where in the 1960"s 70"s and 80"s there were endless new bands and trends, Frank himself allegedly hated the rock bands of the 1970"s calling it "just noise" and was pissed off at the massive tours they were selling out as his career declined.

In the 1970"s and 80"s there was very little footage on TV about WW1 that I remember, I recall in the late 80"s (70th anniversary) watching the series made by the BBC for the 50th anniversary in 1968, "Voices of WW1", and being stunned at the stories of combat and trench warfare on the Western Front, told by men still relatively young and healthy and many still obviously heavily traumatised, the Western Front defined them and their generation but the ones who survived still had many decades to live in ordinary houses doing ordinary jobs and fitting in to ordinary lives, their nightmares must have been extreme I think. With technology and tools like YouTube you can watch hours of footage of both the 70"s and WW1, for someone now I think they are almost joined as just "past time"?

When iTunes was a thing in the beginning my dad who loves music but not technically savvy at all got very much into it but would always refer to "The IT tunes". I would say it's iTunes dad but no he couldn't get out of "The IT tunes" a bit like "Top of the pops". All of which date me of course. I can relate to quite a few of the references on here.

I did as parents didn’t have a landline until I was 22 (and had left home). The doors were sooo heavy too could hardly open them.
Our kids can’t believe their Dad and I had to write letters to each other as teenagers as his parents didn’t have a phone either.
How did we manage??

I saw a newly married couple and I thought but they look far too young to even be legal!. They looked about 12.
Then I turned to my 16 year old daughter and realised she looked younger than them 😢 😅

yes I must admit I roll my eyes a bit when people talk about the difficulties of having families living abroad when there is now texting, facetime and so on. I went to the US with my husband in the early 90's and we kept in touch with our families by letter and carefull timed and expensive landline telephone calls. By contrast I have got an older sibling who used to love going on shopping trips to the US before the prices of goods rose. She would text me from shops and send me photos of fashion asking if this was the kind of shirt etc I wanted and I could answer straight away.

Yes, remember that one as well, stunning stuff to watch as a child in the 70"s sitting in a peaceful country with no real concept of the danger past generations faced.

it used to be "ask Jeeves" that was IIRC the first search engine that could understand human speak rather than having to phrase questions so the search engine could understand them
