A previous job of mine often dealt with student loans. When the applicants were born in the 00's

And every time I see a driver get out of a car and they look about 12

I had a young professional work shadow me this week as part of her continuing education and when she asked how long I had been in this (very senior) role - answer since 2008 - she said “Ah. I was 8, then”.

chastening.

I was telling my children about how each house had only one telephone, connected to the wall by a wire and that it lived in the hall by the front door...

Minds blown

I think I was 14 when the rich kids at school started to come into maths classes with calculators, while the rest of us were all on slide rules

I have a degree in computer science that I got before the internet was invented. I remember talking about websites at work and very loudly asking why any company would want a website when they could have a brochure

some houses had no phone at all and some houses had "party lines" shared by several houses.

I am mid 50s and don’t recognise any of those names sorry. I would maybe recognise their faces though, I’m terrible with names.

My first thought was "Ralph Meeker, wasn't he the bloke who owned the house in Rentaghost?" but apparently it was Harold Meeker.

My class asking, 'What are we doing today?'

"Same thing we do every day Pinky..........."

Even the TA had the same response.....

When a colleague asked me this week how long a product was without a tape measure. I replied "I'd guess about 3 foot?". He rolled his eyes and said "What does that mean?, In cms old woman!" (This was said in jest not meanly).

I did however get him back 30 mins later when I casually asked him how tall he was. "6 foot 1" he said. My response was "Omg, what the hell does that mean?, In cms old man!"

My teenage grandsons and I were discussing the Pink Floyd Tribute Show my husband and I had attended recently in their hometown and we got talking about the first concert I ever went to when I lived in UK.
It was a Rolling Stones Concert in Southampton on Sept 25th 1965. The ticket had been given to me by someone I knew through my Saturday job at Woolworths. It cost £1.
Thats 61 years ago this coming weekend. Did make me feel ancient but at least the grandsons knew who I was talking about!

I’m no longer horrified when I catch sight of my chunky, old self in a shop window or mirror. I’m used to it now, it seems. I’ve fully transitioned to middle-age, at 50.

Not thinking rugby players are hot anymore but rather 'Oh gosh, he's so young, I hope he doesn't get hurt!'

An international footballer came to look around the school I worked at. I thought he was a sixth former on work experience.

DP and I recently went to the pub where we met 20 years ago, and he asked if they had any alcopops - the bartender had never heard of the term. Also DS15 coming across a phone box on a day out, and asking me what it was: I explained how it worked, he picked up the handset but jumped when he put it to his ear and heard the dialling tone.
That also reminds me of a thread I read recently about calling your mum and letting it ring for 2 rings so that no-one has to pay for a call, the meaning of "missed call" has totally changed.

Had a colleague yesterday say “I’ve got the key”. To which I replied “I’ve got the secret”. She looked at me like I was from another planet.

Having sex with my glasses on! 😮

Reminds me of my next door neighbour over 26 years ago. She was as blind as a bat without her glasses. We lived in a victorian terraced street so my back window was next to her back window divided by a chest height wall. We used to tap on each other's back window instead of going to the front. I didn't know she had 'company' and tapped on her back window. She shot up and looked through the window with her glasses scew wiff and steamed up. It was hilarious 😂. She found it hilarious too.

Never been ill before and now diagnosed with a/f. Seen in clinic for the first time and lovely nurse was going through the usual (I assume), questions do I need help at home can i manage stairs etc. I just sat there thinking I was working until I retired 6 months ago in a management role, now I’m being treated like an old lady, then realised I’m nearly 70, so maybe I am 😂

I had this at a respirortory clinic and I am 53!

I’m 46 and wouldn’t get that reference.

When my kids told me they "did Live Aid in history". I was bloody well there!!!

Was it the module titled "This is what good bands were like"?

I'd kind of adjusted to knowing that at 51 I was old enough to be the mum of colleagues in their twenties...but I was chatting to a new colleague yesterday and realised that I was also old enough to be his mum...and he's 30 😱

On a similar vein, my sister and I were at secondary school in the late 70s/early 80s. Neither of us used a computer at any time through our schooling (there was a room in our secondary school with a few computers for those who wanted to take O' level computer studies but that was a bit of a niche, nerdy thing).

One summer, our parents booked us onto a computing summer course - a couple of hours a day for a week - at a nearby city. I vaguely remember it being run by a shop that sold computers.

It was a fun week and we learned a few things. At the end of the week, mum and dad asked if we'd like them to buy a family computer for us. We said no without even needing to think about it - we knew money was a bit tight, computers were expensive and we genuinely couldn't think of anything we'd use a compute for!

Again, that was clearly way before the Internet.

Oh you thourghly Modern Millie
We had a 2p piece.
I'm sure someone will be along with a thrupenny bit.

hello! I was a teenager when the first 5 and 10p coins were released. A call from a phone box cost 4d (4 old pennies) Us kids would always go into empty phone boxes and press button B because it wasn't totally unknown for the previous user to forget to get their coins back.

When I was about to get on a train, and a young man offered to carry my suitcase onto the train. I looked at him in horror and said 'noooooo thank you!' Poor chap probably never helped anyone again 😂.

I was teasing my younger colleague about always being on holiday, I told him he took more holidays than Judith Chalmers - he had no idea what I was talking about.

I guess my user name ages me!

When I realised I have been out of university for longer than childhood+ university, and that I've rowed for over quarter of a century
Trying to explain to ds that the internet and WiFi and mobile phones weren't a thing when we were his age and about the television only having 4 channels, fixed times for shows etc
