When I realised that the day I was born is closer to the 1800’s than today.

That prompted me to do some maths.

I'll be able to say that when it comes to the year 2030. (I'm obviously a little younger than yourself).

TheImpOfThePerverse2026 · Yesterday 19:29

A millennial who works for me had never heard of Margaret Thatcher. Mind you, that's because he's a dopey fuckwit and nothing to do with his age 🙄

Whatalunatic · Yesterday 19:29

oh Lord, I work with a gorgeous young man who I get on with like a house on fire but goodness, does he find me funny! Not funny because I'm hilarious, but funny because I talk about the olden days and what life used to be like pre-Internet, before he was born......I do love him but goodness me, sometimes I see things fly over his head like a jet plane!

When those online forms became a thing my date of birth was first, being 18. Now I have to scroll back in to the previous century.

sounds of the 60s in the 90s was 30 year old music. Now 90s music is 30 years old.

Seeing the uniform I wore for my first Saturday job in a literal museum (Marks & Spencer).

I’m a young-ish Millenial and deliver lectures at a university. I made a Bridget Jones reference to my first year students and they all stared at me blankly 😶 🙃🤪

momager22 · Yesterday 19:31

Telling the youngers at work about the first time we all got taken to the computer room at school to surf the World Wide Web.
I can easily remember the date as the headline news was Jill Dando had just been murdered.

My nail girl being shocked when I told her people smoked in pubs when I worked in them! And her not having a clue what Spanish pesetas were

Jan24680 · Yesterday 19:37

Going to Scotland and people smoking outside pubs rather than in them.

Nokia phones in museums.

Re the shop assistant being unused to dealing with coins.
I paid the young till operator and rounded the coin part up so they would only have to give me 1p change. To say they were very confused would be fair. It took two or three minutes and I came away with 60p and no strength to start explaining.

DH pointed out an old car and said "that car is the same age as you, can't believe it's still on the road"
He got the stare 😂

Decide to go to London for the day to see an exhibition. Put on my glad rags and make up. I make a big thing (to myself and well as others) about the need to look current. As soon as I got on the tube a young woman jumped up and offered me her seat. Bless her heart for her kindness but inside I was appalled I realised I looked all of my 68 years.

Realising that my daughter is fifty two and my son forty nine.

Won’t happen to me. They don’t make these any more.

Bought some beautiful, well.cut but loose fitting organic cotton clothes, including a pinafore. Young colleague told me I looked great.

Me; “ooh are you sure I don’t look like an extra from Deliverance?”

Her: <blank>

Me, undeterred: <banjo solo>

Shes been avoiding me ever since. ☹️

Clocking petrol at £1.76 a litre and remembering I used to fill up my little hatchback for £5.

At a wildlife centre type place they had armadillos.
Ooh I said, soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside!

Everyone looked at me in total horror and I realised I was the oldest person there by a good 20 years.

😂😂😂

Brilliant! This had me actually laughing out loud. For some time!

Yes, similar here when I told my DS that the first computer I ever used was a BBC Basic. Yes, that BBC.

When my stepdaughters (9 and 11) had no idea who Beyonce or Rhihanna are. I mean seriously??? They just looked at me like I was mad.

dancinfeet · Yesterday 19:48

Teaching a dance class of pre-teens and me explaining something to do with technique as needing to be evenly balanced on both sides like a pair of scales. Blank looks from the kids. I asked them if they had seen non electric scales that used weights to balance them and one of the children piped up and said- Yeah I have, in a museum.

I saw a photo of my exH and thought "He looks old!" He is four years older than I am and now I think I look old!! I was happy aging until this!!

Namechangewegovyjune26 · Yesterday 19:50

Watching a colleague in early 20s trying to scan a 50 page document that had been signed - page by page, taking a picture of each page on her phone 😅

Showing her how to feed the document through the photocopier - and select double sided! And have it emailed to her within seconds.

Watching a second colleague in the same role a year later do the SAME thing and teaching the photocopier trick again 🤣

Felt smart but also really old.

When I was telling a young colleague I knew a man who had fought in the battle of the somme and he stared at me in shock

The babysitter laughing at me because she realised I type on my phone with my forefingers. She said it's a sign of someone who is ancient.

I can only manage with one finger and I also have to remove my glasses to see that closely. In contrast, I can touch type on an actual keyboard at quite a respectable speed.
