Last year my carer answered a plea of, "Does anyone have a VHS player.

The person had pulled some tapes out of starage and his kids were facinated.

Strangely my xarer did have a VHS in the shed that is falling apart around it, but apparently it worked and two very happy children have a new toy..

Two weeks ago l tripped over coming out of the garage. I broke my hand, split open my head and badly grazed both knees. I heard my dd on the phone to my ds, telling him, "mum's had a fall". I want to know when it changed from, "mum fell over" to "mum's had a fall"? Is there an age?

Oh dear all so depressing! Sometimes I look in the mirror and think 'oh dear PT you look old and ugly' and sometimes i think I don't look so bad. Today I felt really good when I met a friend I have known for nearly 50 years who kindly said I look the same as she remembers me back then!! It did boost my confidence.

When I mentioned buying Lowenbrau in the pub, only to be met with blank stares from younger colleagues! Apparently Lowenbrau hasn’t been sold in the UK since 2001!! 😱

Yeah it is fascinating how new generations engage with old tech. Mind you, my daughter now collects CD’s and we had been using the old CD player my dad had at home. It hadn’t seen any action in over 2 decades at least!

My Year 10 class were asking how you got a girlfriend / boyfriend before social media and dating sites. Had to explain the whole concept of ‘sending your mate over to ask’, and writing a phone number on your hand or (as with my DH), writing it in lipstick on a napkin !

Yes, so much this. At the time I was working for a very large bank.

It happened in the early afternoon, UK time, and as word spread of what had happened just about everybody was going on to the internet to find out what had happened.

We then got a message telling everybody to get off the internet as it was disrupting the servers, or something (I'm not an IT person).

The bank then arranged to have TVs brought in to different areas of the building so that people could follow the news without clogging up the internet servers.

There are young people today who either don't know about this or think it was just a story. I've even heard some young people say that video of the event was just AI generated - they don't really believe that it actually happened.

Received a catalogue through the post which had those rise and recline chairs. They look so comfortable and I'm beginning to wish I'd got one instead of my current chairs

I was conducting a driving test well before covid. The candidate had the radio on low in the background and Wannabe came on. She said “oh I love these old songs!”…. I quickly translated the digits in her licence number and realised that it was released 5 or 6 years before she was even born…..

I think there definitely were bigger societal changes in that period compared with early 2000s and now. I've been watching Breaking Bad recently and the only things I notice are old-style mobile phones v smart phones and one character wearing old fashioned clothes. The main character's way of dressing would be more or less the same now.

We still use flip charts at work. Old style slides and projectors would be strange now though.

It's the same sort of thing with Back to the Future.

That was released in the UK in 1985 and he went back in time to 1955.

If it was released today then 2026 Marty McFly would be going back to 1996 (I was pregnant with my second DC then).
