Exactly, and that's the problem with social media - somebody can post something like that without saying the context, somebody will take it seriously as they don't know it's a joke - and then the next thing you know it's out there as "truth."
Even though you've cleared that up (thanks) you'll bet there's some out there that have only read the original bit and working themselves up over it as they think it's real.

Source please? It’s a lie btw. There were very few arrests at the original masked protest so this is a lie. You using data from people arrested for violent offences at riots after the Southport murders. How you extrapolate from “people arrested for violence” to “everyone at a protest” is beyond me.

And for the umpteenth time, the demonstrators at Gosport are men and women who are mainly not wearing masks.

I don’t think large numbers will be taken without issues, even on this thread there are posters repeating the falling numbers with this gov.

I’m more concerned about the social media pipeline from ‘concerned about immigration citizen’ to extremism far right propagandist and conspiracy theorist. It’s a real and serious problem. People have, often understandable, concerns about immigration and their own local areas which are often underfunded and where they feel forgotten or are struggling due to government cuts and inflation. And then they go online to seek community and to learn more and the social media platform algorithms instead funnel them down an ever more extreme tunnel. It’s a huge issue. Social media platforms won’t stop because we know now, through legitimate research, that anger is what keeps people engaging with social media. And that the above content keeps people on the platforms sharing content and funnelling into groups and so on. It’s really worrying.

I’m sick of people shouting racism. It’s got nothing to do with racism. It’s about trying to protect our resources for people who already live here.

Interesting that's my neck of the woods. I hear a lot of noise about how "illegals" are coming, I am bombarded on facebook with videos of homeless people taken by fuckwits who like to follow female police officers and try to humiliate them. There is no evidence presented that they are "illegals" in fact, some have turned out to be ex servicemen getting hassled.

I've yet to see any of these "illegals' in person though, despite being told I am surrounded by them.

Are you inland? Because that’d explain why you think it’s so easy to police small boats coming to a vast coastline. They’ve succeeded largely in the Dover-Calais channel hence boats are going further along the coast and enduring thirty hours at sea, it’s not an easy task but they are doing it.

Personally I think rejoining the EU means we’d have more cooperation with France and we could set up more legal pathways to apply for asylum without the boats, but you types wouldn’t have that.

The point is it shouldn’t be their job. Not only can it be stopped, it should never have started. You either come in with permission or not at all. It’s the posters that say they should just get processed who are missing the point. Plus apparently you cannot deport back to certain countries, so you cannot be let in from those countries purely in that basis imo.
