Yes i couldnt find my oldest when he wss about two
We were in a massive soft play place that was made to look like a ship over.a couple of floors
The sheer releif when i found playing happily oblivious to my panic.

This happened to me too, in a soft play like this! (wonder if it is the same place)

Could someone answer a genuine question?
I know what non verbal means, but is it a case a child doesn't want to speak or are they not able to?
I'd appreciate any info

It means that a child doesn't speak. There can be many different reasons for this.

Heartbreaking outcome. His poor family,

sunshinestar1986 · Today 19:28

Aww this is so sad, poor baby 😢 💔
Prayers for him and his family 💔

Emelene · Today 19:28

I was so sad to see the news. Rest well Noah. Utterly heartbreaking for his family.

My 9yo son is non-verbal. He is actually ‘minimally’ verbal which is non-verbal in terms of how he’s described by the various specialists we are involved with.

Language is essentially very transactional and a conversation is not possible.

So he can say ‘I want a drink’.

If I say ‘what would you like?’ He would have zero clue what I was asking.

Some non-verbal children can understand language but cannot actually speak for a variety of physiological, neurological, and psychological reasons.

Some will lean to speak, some will not.

If you think of a typical three year old you will have some semblance of a back and forth with them.

‘I don’t want to’
’no thank you’
’can we go to the park’ etc.

Nothing at all like this from children like my son.

I am heartbroken thinking about Little Noah and what he must have been feeling.

Good afternoon, all.

We've received quite a few reports about this thread, but we do understand that people will want to talk about this awful news story. However, please avoid speculation and do remember that we are a parenting site - this is a real situation which is happening to real parents.

Thank you.

Really really poor response. Not surprised though.

I have a question. Not just for you, but for commenters who tell others that they mustn't say various things and also for posters who call for threads like this one to be taken down. An example is a poster who said they hoped the family member had nothing to do with it. I said that that had crossed my mind too. (The reason I wrote that is because it's not uncommon for the family member to be the culprit.)

On many threads on the internet in general, there are people who object when posters are discussing a case like this. I'm curious to know what the motivation is for telling people they shouldn't say xyz or that the thread should be taken down.

Is it because some people think a thread like this should only be for well wishes?

And/or is it because they are afraid the family will see the thread?

I tend to operate under the assumption that the family is never going to see this thread. And also that no one is forced to read it.

But perhaps internet threads about criminal cases should be limited to well wishes and no discussion about what could be going on. I'm not talking about Mumsnet specifically, just the internet in general.

Of course its because of the family.

My son died before the Internet was what it is now. I overheard two women discussing my sons death in a shop and blaming me for it. They just made shit up and bolstered each other on. This was 28 years ago and barely a week goes by when I dont think of that. I cant even imagine what thats like when the gossips are all over the world and hundreds of them.

Also MN is where a lot of bereaved parents come for support, its not out of the realms of possibility that the parents may come here for support. They may already be on MN.

Maybe people should type things they wouldn't want the bereaved parents to see rather than assume they wont see it.

Terribly sad.

EveryoneUsingOutro · Today 19:44

Wanting this to be front page news is crazy. It risks turning into another MM where the media is fixed on one case instead of the many others

That was exactly my point, although I maybe wasn’t clear. There are SO many cases of missing people (although many found in 24 hours) that it’s a strange phenomenon when one case out of thousands grabs attention and goes viral.

Friendless943 · Today 19:44

Very sad news, 😔 RIP little chap.

How many of those missing people are children?

I'm just so soooo sad and deflated about this. Those poor parents. Rest in peace, Noah

Heartbreaking news

BreatheAndFocus · Today 19:49

Awful news - the poor family… Just a tragic, tragic accident. RIP dear little Noah.

Bunnycat101 · Today 19:52

Poor family and poor little Noah. I really hope they weren’t given false hope yesterday that the pond had been checked and cleared. Unfortunately this was always a likely outcome given the lack of sightings on the thermal cameras but I’ve been hoping for better news.

Campanulaceae · Today 19:53

I am so sad for poor Noah and his family.

I cried when I heard they'd found him. Our little boy is a similar age, we live fairly close, and it feels close to our hearts. Poor sweet boy.

AleaEim · Today 19:54

Oh so heartbreaking, I feel sick. I wonder if he wandered straight there and had been there the whole time, he walked quite far.

Phoenix1Arisen · Today 19:56

I just thank heaven that he wasn't the victim of some wicked crime because that just adds layer upon layer of horror to an already tragic outcome.

ClaudettedeBeauvoir · Today 19:57

I'm shocked at posters saying they assume family members won't see this. Surely it's better to work on the presumption that a family member or someone close to the family will see it. That way you can choose to respond in the most humane and respectful way.

ClaudettedeBeauvoir · Today 19:58

ItsPickleRick · Today 19:45

How many of those missing people are children?

75,000 a year are children.

EveryoneUsingOutro · Today 20:00

Fairyyqueen · Today 15:15

I just looked up missing child cases in the uk within the last year (sept 25 - sept 26) there were 16 cases (including this one), 15 of which were over the age of 12. 12 of them were found safe and well. So I do think a missing 3 year old is a higher priority and deserves more media attention.

What? That’s nonsense. The charity Missing People says that 160,000 people are reported missing every year - of which 72,000 are children.

yes 80% are found within 24 hours. But what the heck do you mean 16 cases? Absolute nonsense. Confused

EveryoneUsingOutro · Today 20:01

DeftGoldHedgehog · Today 15:15

Heh, I tried reins with DD1 as soon as she started walking aged 1. It reminded me of when I was a kid and I'd tried to put a collar and lead on my cat and it went about as well, except babies are heavier and even more wriggly than cats. @EveryoneUsingOutro How to tell me you're not a parent without telling me you aren't a parent.

Edited

I am a parent, and said upthread mine was a runner and a climber. So naff off.

KidsDoBetter · Today 20:03

Maybe show some respect those who are still bickering about statistics??

This is one little boy - now gone. A family devastated Rest in peace Noah.
