Absolutely tragic news, RIP Noah and thinking of his poor family at this terrible time.

Poor little boy, I've been thinking about him all day. His poor parents and grandad. This could have happened to anyone :(

The poor grandad. I just can't imagine the weight of this. Weve all been there as parents but without this outcome, I will hold my 3 very tight tonight.

Thinking of this lovely little lad, and his poor family. Thoughts also with the police divers, who do a job that is unimaginably difficult and traumatic.

I wonder what the usual suspects who were pointing fingers at local migrants will do now.

I have a question. Not just for you, but for commenters who tell others that they mustn't say various things and also for posters who call for threads like this one to be taken down. An example is a poster who said they hoped the family member had nothing to do with it. I said that that had crossed my mind too. (The reason I wrote that is because it's not uncommon for the family member to be the culprit.)

On many threads on the internet in general, there are people who object when posters are discussing a case like this. I'm curious to know what the motivation is for telling people they shouldn't say xyz or that the thread should be taken down.

Is it because some people think a thread like this should only be for well wishes?

And/or is it because they are afraid the family will see the thread?

I tend to operate under the assumption that the family is never going to see this thread. And also that no one is forced to read it.

But perhaps internet threads about criminal cases should be limited to well wishes and no discussion about what could be going on. I'm not talking about Mumsnet specifically, just the internet in general.

Poor little boy; this is so very sad. Sounds like it was just a tragic accident. A small thing - running off - that turned into a big thing, with the grandfather falling and Noah being partially deaf and also non-verbal, so it was really hard to locate him. A confluence of factors ending in disaster. ☹️ Toddlers and water are such a horrendous combination; drowning happens silently and within minutes. Poor him and his poor family.

Awful news. My thoughts are with the family. I feel for the Grandad who will be so deeply traumatised by this. I know of a family whose child died in a pond while grandparents were supervising. It’s so deeply upsetting to imagine their pain and regret, and the complicated feelings other family members may have.
