Unpopular food opinions

Mine is that I ADORE white pepper, while everyone else seems to think it tastes like the 70s and hospital dinners.

I also prefer some things over cooked, mainly broccoli and pasta.

What's yours?

Mushy peas are the very spawn of Satan himself.

I don't like sweet things in general, I actually do not undestand how most people like sweet things so much and struggle not to eat them. I just find it the most boring an uninteresting flavour profile. Of course if I go to a very good restaurant I am interested in trying the dessert there, to see if it is something more complex and interesting than usual and I have tried some good things, but nothing has ever blown me away.

I wonder if I experience sweetness in a different way to other people because for me is crazy to think that most people love it so much. Milk chocolate (Cadbury type) is actually unpleasant, I can tolerate darker chocolate.

I love Brussel sprouts.

Me too!

Mashed potato and gravy is one of my favourite comfort foods 😂

I don’t actually think I have an unpopular food opinion (as I can’t think of one).

My husband loves mashed potato and gravy sandwiches. Brings a look of joy to his face. Sweet really.

Black pudding softie(Ne Scotland)
Barm and plethora of other name across UK.
White pudding from the chipper or fresh out the skin with mince and tatties
Ox liver and onions 😋😋

Sweet corn
Biled cabbage
Diced carrots in anything
Avocado..green gunk
Tattie scones
Hash browns
Semolina..as if a spoon of jam is going to make that better
Tapioca..why?
There's more but too many to list.

I hate beetroot. I don't eat meat and in recent years many vegetarian options have beetroot in them. I also hate sponge cake and buttercream icing is disgusting.

Yes. Beetroot and goats cheese 🤮

PerfectPlasticPerson · 11/09/2026 18:20

I hate bananas, the nasty slimy things themselves and anything flavoured with them.

Baked beans taste their best eaten cold out of the tin.

Instant mashed potato (the old fashioned powdered kind, not the modern flakes) is delicious.

Escargots are quite tasty.

SpottyAlpaca · 11/09/2026 18:21

Proper sourdough bread is horrible stuff. The crust is inedibly solid and hurts your mout( to eat, the bread is full of holes so you can’t spread anything on it, its flavour overpowers whatever you eat with it, it goes stale quickly & it’s ridiculously expensive. Give me a supermarket tiger bloomer any day.

I read somewhere that psychopaths prefer bitter and non-sweet flavours. Wink (I'm a black coffee and dark chocolate preferrer myself, and if people comment and say that they can't tolerate the flavours I sometimes trot out the above fact and smile creepily.)

Hello my sister from another mister.

Pineapple on pizza is great, and hot honey can get in the bin.

Edited

Noooo! Pineapple AND hot honey! So good together!

Oh also this might be a MN specific unpopular food opinion.... But some UPFs are really really delicious. All the food threads in here are full of people who's palette is so sophisticated they can't enjoy crappy food but I hereby declare the following delicious: super noodles on buttered white bread, McDonald's fries, capri sun, those jalapeno flavour veggie burgers, golden Oreos.

What brand are the jalapeno veggie burgers? They sound right up my street!

Adults who offer other people’s children sweets (without the consent of the child in question’s parents) are self indulgent and trying to make themselves feel good at the expense of others. They should be heavily stigmatised.

All right, keep it light

This thread makes me feel like such a greedy foodie 😋 everything people hate I'm thinking "yummm" to
I love vinegar and lots of it, loads of salad dressing
Give me a runny poached egg on everything
Sprouts - yum
Gravy and mash - delicious
The only things I agree on are cottage cheese (vile) and porridge (tastes good but the oats get stuck in my tonsils)
Love carrot cake and courgette cake and Beetroot cake
😋😋😋

Raw tomatoes are basically the only thing I won’t eat. Apart from oysters, and that’s only because I’m allergic to them. I actually think they’re absolutely delicious.

SpottyAlpaca · 11/09/2026 19:24

My body is far from being a temple, but savoury pastry products, eg pies, pasties, sausage rolls, steak bakes etc etc aren’t worth the calories & the massive quantities of animal fats. I will eat pork pie at Christmas as an annual treat, but apart from that, I avoid. Just way too unhealthy.

Dh is the same, he eats literally anything. Since I've known him I've watched him eat roasted crickets, frogs legs, ostridge, and he told me he ate ants and even a cicada as a child. I can't think of a food he won't eat. He's not keen on broccoli (of all things) but will eat it.

I don't eat meat or cottage cheese but that's probably it. Never had an oyster however...so who knows.

Wineryvinery · 11/09/2026 19:26

I like salad cream with steak and chips.

Tinned tuna is vile

The sequel...do you want too see some puppies.

hockityponktas · 11/09/2026 19:38

Really I just like ALL the foods!
Only thing I’m not keen on is sultanas in a curry, they puff up and look like slugs. They are also what I imagine the texture of slugs would be 🤮

Hahaha I am a psychopath then, also love bitter flavours!

MrsBeltane · 11/09/2026 19:40

Sweet potatoes are vile. I do not want paprika or hot honey on my food.

OttersOnAPlane · 11/09/2026 20:10

Sweet potatoes are claggy and unpleasant.
Dried fruit in savoury food is horrible, I don't care how 'authentic' it makes your stupid tagine.
Lemongrass is not nice; doubly so when combined with coconut.
Dhal, while delicious, is a side dish and not a main course unless dictated by poverty.
All aniseed flavours are evil with the possible exception of a very small amount of dill.

Hot sauce and/or chilli peppers are wonderful - especially with breakfast.
Pasta might be humanity's finest achievement, until I remember cheese. Cheese is definitely the best.

Still in most chemists and even the pound shop but they’re not a point, boo!

so sugary it should be criminal to feed to baby and toddlers so I do my civic duty and eat them to save them the tooth decay.

bobbybigbollocks · 11/09/2026 20:28

Chips and gravy is the food of the gods
Curry is better when cold
I like my mashed potato lumpy
Mint sauce on everything
