Mine is that I ADORE white pepper, while everyone else seems to think it tastes like the 70s and hospital dinners.

I also prefer some things over cooked, mainly broccoli and pasta.

What's yours?

Love cold burnt toast, burnt meat and pineapple on pizza.

Yes for the toast. No for the others. Yuck!

aberamagold · 11/09/2026 15:44

I don't like any thing sweet for breakfast.

Leftover Indian takeaway makes the best breakfast ever.

AutumnLover1999 · 11/09/2026 15:46

Dubai chocolate is rank.

HorseandHeron · 11/09/2026 15:49

Salted caramel is the work of the devil. As are prawns.

OP, I love white pepper. It's a very Scottish flavour imo - Scotch broth, haggis - neither would taste right without lots of grey powder in them.

I like my crisps, cottage pie and lasagne to be slightly burnt round the edges, it concentrates the flavour!

I can eat pickled beetroot straight from the jar.

I asked for vinegar for my cabbage at a restaurant on Sunday and heard it going all round the bar and kitchen "vinegar? For the cabbage?"

I eat Marmite off a spoon.

Edited

MMMm. Me too.

Adults who offer other people’s children sweets (without the consent of the child in question’s parents) are self indulgent and trying to make themselves feel good at the expense of others. They should be heavily stigmatised.

cuckoolodger · 11/09/2026 15:54

Meat packed out with lentils or just lentils as a filling is dire and honestly I’d rather just not eat it. It’s grim in /as shepherds pie. But I do love lentils and split peas in a soup when they are the main event, just not as a filler trying to play imposter.

i really struggle to eat home made leftovers from my own fridge but will happily eat a kebab, cold the following morning. Makes no sense.

Craftysue · 11/09/2026 15:59

I hate beetroot. I don't eat meat and in recent years many vegetarian options have beetroot in them. I also hate sponge cake and buttercream icing is disgusting.

Absolutely love vinegar on cabbage, and on runner beans. Yum !

Carandache18 · 11/09/2026 16:11

Fish tastes of fish, smells like fish, and looks like fish. Fish are not edible and should be left alone in the water.

I like dry overcooked chicken - hate “juicy” meat.

oh absolutely me too I can't stand it when it's got any wet .

TigerRag · 11/09/2026 16:33

I'm not a fan of those fancy desserts you get in restaurants. I'm happy with a pot of rice pudding

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/09/2026 16:48

Dubai chocolate is vile. DH brought some proper stuff back for DD from Dubai because he had a stopover there. She gave me a bit to try and I hated it. I can only imagine that the knock-off versions in the shops here are even worse.

Coffee cake is just wrong. I love coffee and I love cake, I even put a little coffee into chocolate cake to deepen the flavour, but coffee cake is horrible.

Agree. And so many restaurant desserts have alcohol in them. I'm teetotal and there have been occasions where I've not been able to eat any of the desserts at all other than the cheese & biscuits or the kiddies ice cream.

Oh yes, and bloody cinnamon in so many things. If a dessert hasn't got alcohol in it, the damn thing will have cinnamon instead.

villadicance · 11/09/2026 16:51

It's not that hard to cook from scratch every day. Yes, I work full time, no family support, two kids.

I almost never like cake. It's almost always too dry or too sweet or not sweet enough.

I didn't realise until I came on Mumsnet how many people dislike beans/lentils. I think of them as a really normal versatile food

MsLllama · 11/09/2026 16:51

salted Caramel, nasty ,on every dessert when you go out.
porridge-wallpaper paste ,i heave when its cooking for kids.

Pork Scratchings are bloody handsome.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/09/2026 16:53

I don't like potatoes (particularly mashed, urgh), pasta or rice. I only like my toast when it's cold and floppy, and I prefer my meat on the raw side rather than overcooked. I also hate cinnamon!

I'm not really fussy though, honestly!

Noodge · 11/09/2026 16:54

I eat nuts straight from the freezer, peanuts especially are much nicer cold and hard.

I don't like cake and cannot get excited about most puddings. I'll only eat one if I am still hungry and unlikely to be able to eat anything for a time, in a restaurant for example. Pointless calories for me.

I don't agree on the cooking healthy food being difficult but I am blessed with a good natural ability with cooking and It's something that interests me a lot. I realise not everyone is like this (and if I appear to be bragging, I am rubbish at a lot of other things that come naturally to people, cleaning for example is a minefield for me!).
I don't like roast potatoes. Love mash, baked, wedges, chips but not roasties. Most people seem to think this makes me a heathen.

I've been vegan over 25 years and the only food I miss is cottage cheese.

Beans and lentils really upset my stomach. That is why I dislike them.

Nofeckingway · 11/09/2026 17:06

I hate coffee. Very handy as I never waste money on it .

I like my scrambled eggs to be bouncy, not that sloppy nonsense.

Yes, I need to be able to slice it with a knife not slurp it through a straw .
I don;t eat many eggs , not a fan

aliasfrog · 11/09/2026 17:19

This thread makes me feel like such a greedy foodie 😋 everything people hate I'm thinking "yummm" to
I love vinegar and lots of it, loads of salad dressing
Give me a runny poached egg on everything
Sprouts - yum
Gravy and mash - delicious
The only things I agree on are cottage cheese (vile) and porridge (tastes good but the oats get stuck in my tonsils)
Love carrot cake and courgette cake and Beetroot cake
😋😋😋

MissBridgetJones · 11/09/2026 17:21

Celery is absolutely revolting. Not even peanut butter can improve it.

Dried fruit doesn’t belong in savory dishes like curry or tagine.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 11/09/2026 17:35

Gravy makes food go soggy and ditto custard, unless it’s on bananas.

idratherbedrawing · 11/09/2026 17:42

those moaning about sourdough have prob not had good sourdough - it just means naturally leavened, it shouldn’t her sour or stale easily. What you’ve had is over proofed shite

anyway agree about the distaste for brioche burger buns - rich meat does not need an enriched dough bun. Have a normal bun and save brioche for breakfast dipping in coffee

white pepper is amazing - it’s a key ingredient in many Chinese dishes. It’s different from black pepper but not in a bad way
