Mine is that I ADORE white pepper, while everyone else seems to think it tastes like the 70s and hospital dinners.

I also prefer some things over cooked, mainly broccoli and pasta.

What's yours?

Cooking really delicious, nutritious food is not quick, cheap or easy; it requires time, skill, space, knowledge and money to be able to coax the best flavour and texture out of things. The reason so many attempts at healthy eating fail is that the quality of food available in the supermarkets is generally terrible (tasteless vegetables, woody chicken etc) and advice on healthy eating often consists of utterly joyless recipes. So people start with poor quality ingredients and then often don't have the time and/or knowledge to maximise their potential: of course they conclude that healthy food is unsatisfying and don't want to stick with it.

This is a bit off topic. Just enjoy the food you like. Not that you have said what that is.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2026 14:52

Carrots have no place in cakes
A hot chicken roll is a delicious thing, made utterly gross by the automatic addition of cheese in every deli here in Ireland. Chicken and cheese? Just no.
Seafood of any variety is disgusting

Lakeyloo · 11/09/2026 14:55

I can't stomach egg yolk and baked beans anywhere near each other 😖If we go out for breakfast and my egg is put on top of my beans, I'm done. Need a serious wall of sausage/bacon/hash browns in between and only break the yolk once every last trace of bean juice has gone. Its a visual thing as much as anything... love them both separately.
Also with OP on the pasta. We went to Italy this year and i really didn't like "properly" cooked pasta.
Also LOVE sprouts and love vinegar on cabbage.

AutumnLeavesTurning · 11/09/2026 14:57

Any sweet sandwich is revolting . Jam , Honey or Chocolate spread of any description - Yuk .

TheProvincialLady · 11/09/2026 15:01

Foul things:

  • The combination of mint and chocolate. Inexcusable, particularly in the form of ice cream
  • Sugary bread, unless intended to be a pudding item
  • Anything from McDonalds. Ugh
  • Hot honey anything
  • Vegan food that is not naturally vegan, eg contains ‘cheese’ or ‘yoghurt’. All of it is at best very boring and unsatisfying and at worst repulsive. Yet many vegans need you to pretend it’s not only as good as, but better than, the dairy version. I’m vegetarian and never feel the need to get meat eaters to pretend quorn sausages taste the same as/ better than meat. But it seems to really matter to some vegans

Delicious things

  • Mashed potato (hot) brown sauce sandwich
  • leftover takeaway curry and tomato ketchup sandwich
  • Supernoodles - curry flavour
  • Mint sauce flavour mushy peas

I very rarely have any of the above (maybe every 5 years) but just thinking about them has made my mouth water and I will definitely have one of them this weekend 😋

SlimShandy · 11/09/2026 15:01

Cottage cheese is rank.
The only doughnut worth eating is filled with jam and covered with granulated sugar. Krispy Kreme and their ilk can get in the bin.
Anything with stewed/cooked apple looks like snot.
Matcha tastes like grass clippings.
Mushrooms have no place as the main character of a dish.

But then I like brioche buns, sprouts and runny scrambled eggs (not together), so what do I know?

elliesmummy19 · 11/09/2026 15:03

I DETEST eggs. Absolutely vile. They have a smell when they’re raw. No one else seems to know what I mean. My husband things I’m bonkers. But they smell like wet dog. My daughter wanted to make meringue during the summer holiday and I could smell the doggy egg smell in the fridge for days after 🤮 disgusting in any shape or form.

soddingspiderseason · 11/09/2026 15:04

Baked beans are the devil’s food. Sweet and gloopy. Ugh.

Spidey66 · 11/09/2026 15:05

Avocados, olives and red wine are rank.

WonderWeeksArentReal · 11/09/2026 15:05

With the sole exception of mozzarella on pizza, I think all cheese is disgusting.

purplecorkheart · 11/09/2026 15:06

I don't like cheese unless it is melted and is some thing like cheedar.
I think truffle oil is vile.
I do not like berries or overnight oats
I see salad as a side not a main meal
Most chocolate is now rank

Iocanepowder · 11/09/2026 15:11

Porridge, and anything else with the consistency of slop like overnight oats and wheetabix and rice pudding is absolutely disgusting.

Chicken AND cheese sandwich! Oh no thank you.

Salted caramel can get in the bin along with:

Any type of fish or seafood
Sweetcorn
Any type of curry
Any type of chicken nugget/goujons
Marrow, Courgette or Gherkins (adore cucumber though!)
Tinned hotdogs
Blue cheese
Olives
Peppers
Kiwis
Egg fried rice with peas (should just be egg & rice)
Mushrooms in anything other than spag bol or a cheeky fry up.
Poached eggs
Any cereal that isn’t porridge or weetabix
Cold pasta
Cold pizza
Quiche
Egg Custard
Chilli

plus many more 🤢

Wow, that is quite a comprehensive list. What do you like? I'm genuinely interested.

Thingsthatgo · 11/09/2026 15:14

Avocado is massively overrated.

Cotopaxi · 11/09/2026 15:14

Bubble tea. Just what the absolutel f...? Tapioca is bad enough as it is. Why make it even worse?

HereComesTheNight · 11/09/2026 15:16

Sourdough should be banned.
It's impossible to find a nice crusty loaf now that isn't sourdough. It's rock hard ( don't even mention toasted sourdough). It takes the skin off the roof of your mouth and is stale in hours.
I wanted some bagels today and they only had sourdough bagels!

I also like plain boiled white rice.

dreamiesformolly · 11/09/2026 15:20

I only like bananas when they're slightly underripe, preferably still with a touch of green on the skin. As soon as they're bright yellow they taste overripe to me. And don't get me started on barbecued bananas, isn't that just basically... hot rotten bananas? :barf

Avocado is massively overrated.

I like avocado.
I hate apples and would rather eat nothing (why Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow chose to name their daughter that is a mystery to me).
I like beef dripping on toast.

I hate bananas, even the smell of them.
I adore mussels cooked in a garlic and white wine sauce.
This thread is making me hungry!

CherryKerry · 11/09/2026 15:25

I don't like cream, burgers or anything deep fried.

Deep fried Mars Bars were all the rage when I was a teenager 🤮.

Kadiofakit · 11/09/2026 15:28

I want my fizzy drink room temp, would never put ice in any drink. I would leave my bottle of coke outside the fridge. My family thinks I am mad

alloutofcareunits · 11/09/2026 15:36

Mumofyellows · 11/09/2026 13:34

Eggs are revolting and how anyone could eat something with that smell is beyond me.

This. There appears to be a trend in cafes near me where almost everything is topped with a poached egg 🤢I can’t even watch people eating them

BunnyLake · 11/09/2026 15:37

Hoppinggreen · 11/09/2026 12:49

Mashed potato is gross and so is gravy
Combined they are absolutely horriffic

Mashed potato and gravy is one of my favourite comfort foods 😂

I don’t actually think I have an unpopular food opinion (as I can’t think of one).

Waitingfordoggo · 11/09/2026 15:39

Coffee, wine and gin are all minging.
