I've noticed that some boards are so much friendlier than others. What are the more hostile ones you've come across?

Feminism, and I say this as a life long feminist, they are chock full of hate.

Meh - women who prioritise men over women aren't feminists

Casualuser · Yesterday 12:47

The thing about the trans boards it the ive not observed anyone cite personal experience of abuse by a trans person on them.

Thank you! Good spot! No definitely insightful. Note to self: stop posting so late at night!!

I had wondered whether it was a Freudian slip lol.

Many have been the victims of abuse by men. Trans women are men.

Well, there are some who have but that isn't the point.

What is the point is that there are many many personal experiences of the consequences of being female rather than male, and why these mean that being female is a different thing to whatever it is that trans people believe makes a person a "woman".

On one occasion, I did mention that one of the major reasons for having feminism in the first place was so that women should feel free to express themselves and to hold their own opinions. Therefore it was somewhat ironic that the feminism board was one of the places where only certain opinions were allowed and anyone who stepped out of line would be viciously attacked - by other women.

It didn't go down well.😂

Really? Just off the top of my head, I've seen loads of women post in the past about coercive, emotionally abusive trans husbands.

Personally, while I think news and legislative updates can be interesting, I don't really think there's a lot to talk about though - debating trans activists is like trying to debate rationally with someone who thinks Harry and Meghan's children are actors. There's just no point.

I find other feminist subjects more interesting, myself.

Im a Feminist and agree feminism is about women. The biggest threat to most women is the men in their lives, husbands, sons fathers, brothers.

Exactly and whilst "feminism" is focused on the 0.5% of people who are trans, we are detracting attention and effort from the real issue. Who does this benefit? Men and the patriarchy.

The last two trans women I dealt with were sex offenders. Anyway, it’s not male, female and trans. It’s just male or female. Deeming yourself trans doesn’t suddenly absolve you of the risk that is attributed to the male sex. The majority of men don’t actually commit crime, but of the 98% of the sexual and violent crimes that do occur, they are committed by males. That includes trans women.

Still not a decent argument for abolishing safeguarding and single sex spaces.

Toilets again. Always the toilets. I wish fgm got as much attention on here.

Why do I need personal experience of personal abuse by a trans person to say I want a single sex counselling space, a female medical professional when I ask for one and no men where I pee?

im a violent rape survivor, I’m entitled to sex based rights.

as to whether not wanting a trans woman in a single sex space is an illness, no it’s not. I want my rights as enshrined in the equality act. That’s it.

Let one man in you have to let them all in. And since men are the biggest threat to women that’s a dangerous road.

also. I say no. No one else can consent for me. So doing away with my consent in this area is a slippery slope. Women as a group want and need sex based rights. Unfortunately for trans individuals the law has been clarified following FWS. They should campaign if they want to change the law. And women will campaign as well.

I don’t campaign about FGM because I don’t know anything about it on a personal level, but I do know about women’s rights to single sex spaces. And I have experience that makes those spaces really important to me.

I can’t take on to campaign for everything.

why can’t you campaign and start threads here about FGM? I’m sure you’d get support.

So what do us misguided feminists do exactly when bad men claim they’re women?

And then public institutions including courts of law insist that women stfu and call their rapists ‘she’?

And our daughters can’t compete fairly in sports because male bodied people are feted and win all the medals?

What do we do when women and girls don’t have safe spaces away from male bodied people in rape centres, refuges, prisons, hospitals?

And things that were set up for the exclusive enjoyment and leisure of women like the WI, Hampstead ladies pond, womens groups etc suddenly cease to exist?

What you are blind to is that this issue is all about men and the patriarchy. There is nothing more misogynistic and insidious.

Definitely the feminism board. I’ve been on mumsnet for 16 years on and off and AIBU, chat etc can be but are usually a mix with some aggressive posters mixed in, the feminism board puts me right off posting and I just think they are a punch of angry bandwagon people who refuse to see any other point of view that is not their hardcore own. Very off putting and will win no hearts or minds,

This isn’t meant to be agressive, and I’m sorry if it sounds that way. But you seem to be saying that non feminist posts are challenged on the feminist boards? Can I ask what you thought would happen?!

OtterlyAstounding · Yesterday 13:25

ClaudettedeBeauvoir · Yesterday 12:58

Exactly and whilst "feminism" is focused on the 0.5% of people who are trans, we are detracting attention and effort from the real issue. Who does this benefit? Men and the patriarchy.

I'm focused on female liberation from all males, and also from patriarchal socialisation. So by default that means not accepting that some males are special and should be given different treatment - that's the patriarchal socialisation talking there.

I think feminists would talk a lot less about trans issues if female spaces, and femaleness itself, weren't under siege by male trans people.

And I still don't think the feminist board is the most aggressive one, but if it were that might be because it's constantly besieged by MRAs, TRAs, and well-intended 'be kinders'.

By fuck will I ever call my rapist she if he decides tomorrow that he’s trans.

Can I point out that I can’t describe my rape here as it’s considered too upsetting for others to read. I get why mnhq say that but it pisses me right off. I can’t describe what he did to me that makes the sex based rights so important to me.

They hate trans people

No that is not true.

They do not agree that a trans woman is a woman though, which is something different from hating them.

They do not agree that a man who is a transwoman should be allowed to compete against females in sports, or all women short-lists; or share prisons, changing rooms, domestic abuse centres, rape crisis centres, or changing rooms with women (biological sex). They do not agree that girl guides should be lead by men who are transwomen. They agree with the Supreme Court ruling that sex in the Equality Act refers to biological sex.

They also do not agree with Transactivists promoting harmful ideas to children; or puberty blockers for children.

Another vote for feminism board. I don't bother anymore. Apart from the rabid aggression, who wants to endlessly talk about public toilets?

What a dumbfuck thing to say. TRAs talk about bogs endlessly than accuse women of being obsessed when they respond.

Comments like this are why people on the feminism board get ratty
