Aggressive Mumsnetters

I've noticed that some boards are so much friendlier than others. What are the more hostile ones you've come across?

Just my opinion but your last sentence is pretty aggressive and demanding.

I just see that as a question. To try to engender a discussion with you - I really don’t see that poster’s post as aggressive at all.

it’s straight to the point and it’s not fluffy, for sure. But it’s not aggressive. Not to me, anyway.

Absolutely.

@piscofrisco- yes I totally agree they should be a place for support and solidarity and possibly....even..kindness.

You definitely need to avoid the wedding guest threads.

Greedybilly · 09/09/2026 15:41

I've seen awful aggressive posts on chat, aibu - everywhere on MN really- if you stick to films, books, food etc it's great and really helpful.
Some comments about work/health/kids/dogs/ anything can easily descend into madness/meaness.
You need a thick skin for MN these days.
Still lots of kindness about tho thankfully.

Differentforgirls · 09/09/2026 15:42

There was an AMA thread started by a woman who had been to prison. It was a great thread to begin with but the aggression towards her was unbelievable. To her credit, she never once lost it with anyone.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 09/09/2026 15:42

piscofrisco · 09/09/2026 13:39

Has this thread about aggressive posters really descended into people being aggressive towards one another about a board that they are trying to deny is aggressive in nature?

Bloody uppity women! We should learn to just smile sweetly and demure to comment when people downright lie about what we say and why we say it, amirite?

Oh dear…Bless your cotton socks if you think that’s ‘aggressive and demanding’… that was me being polite and restrained 😂

Genuinely baffled now.

Where has anyone been aggressive here?

People have just earnestly responded to hyperbolic accusations of ‘hate’ and demonic levels of bigotry accused at FWR posters. We are entitled to defend and explain our position, surely?

Do we all have to ‘be kind’ and compromise our hard won rights and protections to any Tom, Dick or Harry that demands it? What is your answer?

I agree with you completely. "That board" in my post is the "FWR" board so you've misunderstood my response - unless it wasn't clear.

dh280125 · 09/09/2026 15:44

I think on any of the boards there are some topics that really wind people up, and where I don't seem to hold the majority view of Mumsnetters. Porn, tax, immigration, Israel, etc.

BendoftheBeginning · 09/09/2026 15:41

I love them! Do you mean the funny ones or the ones where people moan about their invite?

I love the mad, funny ones.

Quoting myself again for you @Differentforgirls just in case you missed it.

it isn’t really fair to post and accuse someone of being aggressive and then not respond.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 09/09/2026 15:47

piscofrisco · 09/09/2026 14:13

Nope.
But This was a thread started by an op asking which threads to avoid because they tend to descend into aggression and unpleasant posting. Do you and others arguing about Trans issues etc etc here not see the irony in bringing aspects of the heated debates from the feminism board and replicating them here? What do you think that suggests to people?
It actually puts people off going on the feminism board which surely isn’t ideal?

Do you think anyone from FWR would be here if we hadn't had the usual crowd piling in to say how awful and full of hate we are?

I don't mind robust criticism of my beliefs, logic or even my posting style. I do mind being lied about and I don't think it's fair to blame any "agression" on the people objecting to being lied about and not the lying that provokes it.

You’ve admitted to plopping to inflame. Posting and ignoring all the responses after you make what comes across to me as nasty accusations. You’re not exactly covering yourself in glory.

I don’t find the feminism boards aggressive at all. I would imagine the gender critical board is…umm…challenging…for people who don’t like articulate, knowledgable women who won’t just #bekind to deluded men and their apologists.

Anything to do with social class or private schools seems to bring out the nutters angry posters. Those threads always get tense,

Agree with this. Also comments like 'we see you' are just kind of proving the point. It's not discussion, it's your either with us or against us.

battens down hatches

I think it's best to read that reply in context. The poster has been needling, hyperbole-ing and frankly lying about other people. I think "we see you" as in "it's obvious what you are trying to do" is a fair comment to someone who just wants to make digs without backing them up.

Ok, fair play. I just don't think the use of 'we' all the time is helpful unless you are suggesting everyone on the feminism boars is of a hive mind.

More than one poster has suggested they would like to venture onto the feminism boards but find it too much. I myself am in that category. I probably am a bit meek and conflict adverse. It's not because of men or because I'm a bad feminist, it's just my personality. But I honestly wouldn't go on FWR and challenge the status quo. I'll leave that for people braver than me!
