Whilst this chap does seem to be a thug, it does beggar belief that the government aren't impounding the boats on arrival and allowing them to be to sent back to bring more people. Smash the gangs seems to have turned into assist the gangs.

I can see that he's been refused bail, but I've not seen the reason for this.

Reasons you can be refused bail (via Google...I was typing the third one when I decided to just Google the others!):

Fail to surrender to custody: Fleeing or failing to show up at court when required.
Commit further offences: Committing additional crimes while out on bail.
Interfere with witnesses or justice: Intimidating witnesses, contacting victims, or destroying evidence.

I'd think the second two are likely reasons in this case.

He's asked to be sent up to Crown Court so he gets a jury trial, which means his offence is an 'either way' one. That does put him at risk of a more severe penalty, however. Clearly willing to take the risk.

Near where I live is s pub that was vandalized in 2023 (yes more than three years ago) by two Muslims yelling Alla hunAhbar damaging the windows and burning the flags that were put up /terrifying for the people that were around.
Only by this week have the two peroetrators appeared in court! Yet the DT criminal damage results in immediate court appearance and no bail.

If he's hoping for a Ricky Jones verdict, he might find himself disappointed. Although two different charges, there is political interference at play. The government will do itself and society no favours, of course. They only step in and give stern warnings when public disorder comes from the right. Tommo's supporters protesting outside the police station is only a taste of what's to come. Tommo refused to give his pin to unlock his mobile phone. So was arrested under investigatory powers. Being refused bail? Hmmm. This has got a whiff of two tier Labour all over it and is going to do nothing to alleviate public concern. Meanwhile, the boats will keep on coming.

How do they decide what’s fast tacked? Seems similar to the LC stuff.

I will not be sticking up for Thomas. We do not need his brand of activism.

It isn't about sticking up for him, it's about ensuring consistency. He's a twat and goes about things the wrong way but this case is going to be very interesting to see how it unfolds.

Justice is supposed to be ‘without fear or favour’
This is about favouring those who come to country and create vile acts of violence And vfearing those who try to shine a light on the criminality.
He is being made an example of to view others into accepting the ruin that the city is really descending into.

I only know of him due to the multiple posts on here. I’m not interested in him. I do think the gov has a broader issue which they can’t resolve within their remit.

Symptoms of that tend not to go away.

Ultimately, the guy has a rather dodgy (understatement) history. We don't know everything he said / did whilst arrested. But if his legal team thought that the judiciary had gone beyond their powers in sanctioning the refusal of bail, they would be doing something about it.

In any event, he's back in court next week and they can argue once again for bail.

People are refused bail all of the time. It's just that we usually don't know about it as it's not high profile.

no, we don’t want political prisoners

However, my understanding is that they kept him in custody because he declares himself to have no fixed abode

He obviously has previous - very serious incident - and they are allowed to take different measures when they consider there’s a risk of public unrest

There’s a risk either way, he will get his followers turning up and protesting regardless of how they handle it. But I suspect that that’s what the fast tracking is about.

I think he’s trying to be the next Tommy Robinson, so this will help further that cause for him.

I made the mistake of looking on here late last night again. It was absolutely insane. Not naming any specifics, but economically the number of people who want to drive the country into the ground is astonishing.

I was having a chat with AI on something unrelated, well something cultural. You know this shift where hard work is something to be ashamed of? I know AI is hugely variable on any subject and obviously I know how it works. I was surprised to see it came up with information about how deeply entrenched that is. I wonder if the vibe was the same in the 70s before Thatcher? Maybe it was.

Thanks for the info @SapphireCasino. I thought you'd know the reason DT was refused bail. You're right that this helps him either way. I haven't paid it much attention tbh, but one to watch.

You wouldn't believe what I've just received by email. I wasn't going to take the online bullying further but I've had it. There is a very inconsistent approach to moderating so I've taken this to site stuff.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know how you're feeling as I've been there. I've left the site a few times and returned with a different name.
Then it ramped up again when I started these threads. Some posters really need to reflect on their behaviour towards others. My MN twin left because of bullying.
MN need to do something about it as I've seen others hounded off and its always the same posters trying to get them banned.
