I’ve only flicked through the first couple of pages of that thread. Can’t be bothered to look further as it will be totally predictable.

But on a general level it’s so stupid how according to the left there’s always someone to pay more tax - not just the mega-rich, but anyone with ‘more’ - but never anyone to receive less from the state or modify how they live.

None of the debate on here and elsewhere matters though. We’ll be forced into change if we don’t do it ourselves.

I haven't had time to do a deep dive this morning, but this is the latest MRP for Sky and The Times. It suggests there would be a left wing coalition if a GE was held today. Labour largest party, but short of a majority.
Vote Lib Dem, get Labour.

I think they need to gather all left wing parties to form a government. Can you imagine? The markets would bounce. In a bad way.

I can’t see that Burnham will go for that over a majority, not yet anyway. But who knows with this lot.

Oddly enough I've been reading up on that, after reading a rather heartbreaking article descriping the typical diets of South African children who live in poverty.

I really don't want a GE right now. I'd rather the short term pain now, with improvement after the next election, than the longer-term pain a left-wing coalition would bring.

Agree. I hope the prospect of a Lab/Green/Lib Dem coalition will sharpen minds when they see this poll though.

Welcome, I’m from a similar background - parents went through series of low-pay jobs and then long term unemployment due to disability and I’ve worked bloody hard to get myself where I am today. Through a series of hard work and good luck re jobs, plus an inheritance due to deceased PIL, we’re now in a position to put our kids in private secondary school. One currently there and the other to follow in a few years once state primary finished. I worked out the other day that between the two kids and a total of 8 years of paying fees, the VAT (aka Spite Tax) will cost us an additional £70k.

Apologies for my lack of posting lately, life has been the usual hectic round but I am reading and checking in with you all.

It’s gone up from £5.99 a month to £7.99 a month if you watch with adverts. Adverts are unobtrusive and quite well timed.

I do think they’ll hit the point where they make them longer in order to get more people paying. I think it’s £12.99 or something if you want to not have ads.

I’m just one person watching on one or two devices, though. Well, I think I can watch another one, but I’ve never actually tried.

the other big advantage is I can put it on pause or cancel it. I didn’t have it over the summer because I was away a fair bit.

they have really good stuff on there, but they are not good at promoting it I find. The algorithm suggests all the types of things I haven’t been watching. Weird.

The BBC are really charging for being the BBC and the conditions should reflect that. I’m allowed to watch other channels on catch up, I can’t watch anything live. My TV aerial is not connected.

If the BBC went to a subscription model, they'd actually get money out of me every now and then, when there was something I wanted to watch, like Line of Duty. As you can't just come and go, I'm just not going to pay for it at all and will watch LoD a different way when released elsewhere.
