Rolling the pitch for a painful Budget to the Financial Times, a senior Labour official has made the extraordinary claim that Burnham and Healey have been taken by surprise over the state of the nation’s fiscal position.
The official is quoted thus: “I don’t think John Healey knew; I don’t think Andy knew … until you get the proper briefings you can only know so much. John was not in access talks with the Treasury until it was way too late.”

I mean…

Goodness! This was Labour handing over to Labour!

It’s not a credible excuse, just proof of incompetence to do the job.

So does that mean that the UK's fiscal position is far worse than any of us realise?

What exactly are they hiding?

And if the markets can also 'only know so much', then does that mean the price of borrowing is going to go through the roof when the truth does eventually, inevitably come out?

I guess we’ll see what tax hikes etc they do in a few weeks.

It’s a ludicrous attempt at creating cover. They’re accusing Starmer and Reeves of concealing the truth. They must think their predecessors’ reputations are so disposable now that they can trash them as much as they want.

But neither Burnham nor Healey are so stupid that they cannot understand that people will laugh at this implausible nonsense. Burnham may be totally unsuitable for PM, a lightweight and a fraud, but he’s wily.

So there must be something else in their plans, rather than in the books, that has brought on this pathetic childish lie.

But he knows that he - yes, he, not Fahnbulleh - is going to approve new North Sea extraction.

So his eco-drivel and the delay in announcing new drilling is all aimed at the Holborn by-election. He is such a colossal fraud. You’d have to be pretty fucking thick to take him seriously.

Martin Lewis said that our electricity bills were going up 24% in January. So we checked our deal runs out next month so we will have to lock in for another term.

I'm paying to leave BG so that I can tie into a deal which isn't hideously more than I'm paying down. In fact, the gas standing charge is 11p less a day, which saves about £40 a year. However, I used somebody's referral code meaning my new supplier (Fuse) is essentially paying my exit fee.

Our deal expires on 12 Dec, so we could move from about 24 Oct, with the 49 day period you get, but given yesterday's news, I'd rather do something now in case these tariffs get pulled before then.

I mean prior to becoming a Trade union official (that has been his career for the majority of his working life) this now non exec of the BOE has worked as an Asda supermarket worker, A Hotel night Porter,a B.T call centre worker, and no doubt this final job is what swung the deal for him, A Bus information clerk.

I think he is one of a long line of trade union leaders to sit on the board (or technically the court) of the BoE

Unlike a listed company they have no real role in holding the CEO / Governor to account, as the Governor is appointed by the Government of the day. It is also so long since we have had a competent Governor, nobody remembers what one looks like (in case you a wondering Mervyn King)

There will be some rubber stamping of audit and renumeration reports too which Novak will be as good as anybody else.

I caught a few minutes of him talking to the TUC conference. His fellow directors should not expect any auditory pleasure when he lets them have his pearls of wisdom.

I think this could be replayed today with a different type of meaning after all we have 50,000 Pyramids in this Dangermouse and another 2 we sink the Country.

Labour are in the release we might do this stage of the budget. God it’s annoying.
