Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

He does, doesn't he? He's more like a janitor or a security man than a PM. And another very dull PMQs, made me quite nostalgic for Starmer.

Oh my lord! Poor bloody Keir. Tried his utter best but was told lacked personality. Enter Burnham. What’s wrong with him then? Too right, too left, too scouse. Says too much, not enough. Ah well, at least the cultural British tradition of moaning is still intact! 😂

It was you who wanted him to say more? I’m fine with the level as is.

I do! I want information and statistics and statements of intent. Otherwise Twatter and Twat Toc fill the gaps.

Have you joined the Labour party? They might send out emails.

ShitHoleDweller · 09/09/2026 13:52

I’d like him to stay in Manchester and just conduct Team meetings when required. The back benchers and civil servants run the shop anyway, so the puppet only needs to wheeled out occasionally.

But those blokes who wear black, fight the police and scream at the boat occupants should probably hire an image consultant if they don’t want to be thought of as fascist.
Because they look chillingly like a scene from Cable Street to me.

My opinion is that these people are the thin end of the wedge, meaning that a lot of people (and I couldn’t guess at the percentages) agree with them, but aren’t prepared to take to the streets and risk their livelihoods and reputations. It’s similar to why many moderate people within a religion won’t condemn the extremist element, some of what the extremist element is saying they agree with, even if they don’t agree with all of it or the way they’ve gone about it.

Take Gaza as an example. You’d get a lot of agreement I think that hostage-taking and murder is a bad thing, but running alongside that will be an emotion that Palestine has the right to exist and its people protected and so terrorist action is required based on historical wrongs. It’s cognitive dissonance at play.

Same with these balaclavaed individuals. On the one hand it can be accepted that dressing all in black and hiding your face during protests will be perceived to be an aggressive and frightening tactic, alongside rabble rousing the police, on the other lots of people understand we’re at end game politics, no one’s listening and the protests need to step up for the government to take notice.

I’m sure some of those protesters are absolutely racist scumbags with a criminal record as long as your arm and a penchant for enjoying a fight, but you’re missing the nuance if you don’t recognise there’s a lot of very ordinary people that are grateful someone is brave enough to get out there and piss the authorities off over an issue that basically caused Brexit and fucked us over forever.

Your opinion that most people agree with the fascists in balaclavas is your opinion. An opinion that facts, evidence and opinion polls are not agreeing with.

It's an incredible loud and vocal minority who feel empowered thanks to the likes of Musk chucking millions at the fascist cause.

The bully boys, wife beaters, kidnappers, those convicted of assault and those cheering them on in their racist cause can fuck right off as far as circa 75% of the British population would like, at least in my opinion which is of at least equal value to yours.

Why is it 'racist' not to want people turning up in boats on our coastline? Sure they come from other countries but it's not their colour that bothers some of us, I couldn't care less, it's the fact our country cannot support more and more people coming in this way, most of them undocumented so we've no idea who they are. Apply through the proper channels if you want to come to the UK, whether you are black, white, brown or green!

Apparently it’s great Labour have decreased the boats arriving, plenty of posts on here. So it looks like most do want that to happen.

That’s no good. It’s people who aren’t in the Labour Party who need reaching. No disrespect to them but the type who receive their political ideas through sound bites and their personal echo chambers.

No people are fine without more Labour soundbites and left echo chambers for sure.

With the best will in the world, we can’t take everyone, not now and particularly in the future when climate migration really kicks in. That’s why we need to hone our response now. And that’s why we need international cooperation.

It’s going to get worse.

Arrivals should be dealt with humanely, securely and swiftly. The Black Shirts are getting in the way and they are using the situation as leverage to make their racist points.

i wouldn’t muck about. Armed forces at docks and in channel. Pick them up, food, clothes and shelter, detained until a decision made. Border control is desperately under funded and can’t do its job properly. A false economy from Con Dem years.

Not at all. Why do you think that my opinion that yours is wrong has upset me?

Why would someone challenging your opinion make you feel they are upset? Perhaps because they are correct.

ShitHoleDweller · 09/09/2026 15:50

Because you littered your post with the word ‘opinion.’ It was obviously important.

aberamagold · 09/09/2026 15:59

I agree the criticism of the RNLI is totally unfair. These boats are very dangerous, of course they shouldn't wait until they're all in the water before rescuing them.

Deporting them all as soon as they get here is the only way to stop them coming, and keep everyone safe.

placemats · 09/09/2026 16:06

It's not just criticism though is it @aberamagold . It's physical and personal attacks.

All asylum seekers have to be processed.

“We managed to rescue that family. We stopped them from drowning. There was a little girl on the boat. She looked me straight in the eye and said: ‘I love you, thank you.’ As a father, that went straight to my heart. That rescue cemented in my head that what we are doing as an organisation is exactly the right thing.”

Yes it's horrendous that people are putting children in danger like this.
Remove the incentive, and they'll stop doing it.

What opinion polls are you looking at that show that most people are not very concerned about people arriving on small boats? That's not what it looks like here

I just think about how terrible their lives must be if they think an inflatable dinghy ride over a perilous sea channel is viable.

Then I think what would it take for me to leave my family, my home, my pets, my community, my friends.

I know we can’t take everyone in but I can’t stand by and see them treated like nothing.

The first priority after somehow surviving the journey should be warmth and kindness, not further held up on a beach because some thugs have decided to go down there and strut about.

You're being disingenuous. I agree most people don't want human beings risking their lives crossing bodies of water in small boats.

I was referring to pp post about masked men abusing those people and the police and rescue workers being supported by most people.

It is not, and should not be tolerated.

There are better ways which are working as the numbers are dropping.

Gtfto2024 · 09/09/2026 17:28

What do you think of the large group that turned up to a Marriott hotel to shout at brown people because of the colour of their skin? Brown people who were here to play cricket.

To me it's racism. I would put money on it being the same people at both. Do you support this as well?

Gtfto2024 · 09/09/2026 17:30

Like many people I am grateful to the RNLI for the amazing work they do.
Particularly in light of all the abuse from this minority group led by criminals.

Gtfto2024 · 09/09/2026 17:32

Anyone following the likes of these convicted criminals ( assault, kidnap, drug dealing) ring leaders, cheering them on and encouraging the fuckwittery need to take a good long look at themselves in my opinion.
