last summer I moved to a new village with my 2 teen DC’s following my divorce. I’ve made a real effort to integrate into village life and joined a cycling group which I love.

a couple of new members joined a few months ago, one of whom is the vicar from a nearby parish. He’s 39 single. I’m 43.

on Friday we all met for drinks snd I ended Ho inviting a group back to my house. Kids are away with their dad. We all had a few more drinks at my house before people started heading home. There’s been a little bit of flirtation between me and the vicar and it ended up just me and him- we had some more wine and he was being very complimentary and was clearly trying it on. We ended up kissing and I’m afraid that I ended up shagging him on my kitchen sofa. Very out of character for me.

im now mortified that I have to see him at cycle meet this week. My friends think it’s hilarious but im worried he’ll think I’m loose and common. 😲

I would have thought a belief in God was pretty much a requirement of the job.

He might aso just have the outfit and is into roleplay.

I knew two vicars very well. My mother's best friend from university, film star looks and a Catholic priest of mine who is an ex C of E vicar.
Both very funny and very normal.

I'm a Christian but I don't think abstainance applies in this day and age. I think a lot of priests end up on the drink because they're lonely.

Maybe you will be even more mortified when this 'impossible to identify vicar who is single, 39, lives in a village and is a member of a cycling club' is outed and finds out from gossip fuelled by your friends (who you have told ) and possibly MN, that you have revealed his sex life for the whole village to find 'hilarious;

It's the gossipy 'oooo er' that I find lacks class. and if I were him I would be very disappointed, if not furious.

But if he is open to having sex on a casual basis presumably OP isn't the only woman he has had sex with and we have no idea about what his standards are as regards who choses to have sex with. He certainly doesn't come over as somebody with any principles.

It should be - tbh I was pretty shocked and saddened to meet one who didn't. They weren't an older person who'd lost faith either, they were young and never believed it. No idea why they decided on that career, it's not known for the money! I'd feel weird having a job in which I constantly had to profess believing in something I didn't believe in, and encouraging others to do it too.

She’s perfectly entitled to talk about who she’s shagged. If he’s embarrassed by this because his chosen vocation. means initiating casual sex with a woman he’s not even dating, let alone in a committed relationship with, is embarrassing for him, and possibly career damaging, then that’s on him, not her. It’s him who needs to think more carefully about his actions, not OP.

He’s the one who needs to think more carefully about what behaviour is ‘classy’ for a Minister of God.

I have no intention of entering further into one of those tedious discussions where someone declares what they think Christians should believe and then attacks them for that, not what christiands actually do believe. Vicars are allowed a life too. Unless I've missed something, the OP met the vicar outside of the church and there's no mention of her being a churchgoer herself, so it's not as if the vicar is taking advantage of a Parishoner.

Lust is one of the 7 deadly sins, but those were a later invention, not the teachings of Christ. Most societies condemn sexual immorality but you don’t need religion for that. What Christ was concerned about was belief.

I don't believe in God at all but there's lots of people pretending to care about Religious scripture using things from archaic texts with a particular translation to start arguments online.

I even saw someone recently saying the God of the bible was a paedophile and a rapist as impregnated Mary (without sex if they knew anything about the story) without her consent.
