Omg I shagged the vicar

BC for this one!!

last summer I moved to a new village with my 2 teen DC’s following my divorce. I’ve made a real effort to integrate into village life and joined a cycling group which I love.

a couple of new members joined a few months ago, one of whom is the vicar from a nearby parish. He’s 39 single. I’m 43.

on Friday we all met for drinks snd I ended Ho inviting a group back to my house. Kids are away with their dad. We all had a few more drinks at my house before people started heading home. There’s been a little bit of flirtation between me and the vicar and it ended up just me and him- we had some more wine and he was being very complimentary and was clearly trying it on. We ended up kissing and I’m afraid that I ended up shagging him on my kitchen sofa. Very out of character for me.

im now mortified that I have to see him at cycle meet this week. My friends think it’s hilarious but im worried he’ll think I’m loose and common. 😲

Yes, sofas in kitchens are common as dert.

Hallelujah!

Probably there to witness the second coming 😇

Bikergran · 31/08/2026 14:57

Vicars are human too. This may be hard work, but try to behave as though nothing happened, but be friendly and open to the relationship progressing if it feels right. I hope you both had a great evening!

In your estimation ? Is that a euphemism?😂

Could be now you mention it, but I thought some might have picked up on the coming down part.

He was probably relaxed about it all till you posted it on Mumsnet

Actually, this both funny and accurate. New parishioner in a village, male vicar in a cycling club, his precise age. Quite a lot of identifying information there. What’s the betting that village parishioners everywhere are now going to try to look into the kitchen’s of single women newbies to see if there’s a sofa? 😂

OP, if a neighbour ‘pops around’ with fairy cakes, they are not just being friendly 😀

5128gap · 31/08/2026 15:00

I don't know about loose and common, but probably loose lipped if you've gone round telling everyone and he's now a joke. What ever happened to discretion?

Dorothyperky · 31/08/2026 14:53

I've laughed my socks off.

I'm a chorister and I've seen some dishty vicars.

I have to know was he wearing his cassock?
My barrister friend used to wear his wig and gown!

Good luck to you, he might want to offer you guidance 😁

I wouldn’t have boasted about it if it were me!

It’s a bit ‘more v vicar’ than more tea.🤣

Or, 'more D vicar' Grin

BunnyLake · 31/08/2026 14:47

Fornication, that’s a dusty, musty old word isn’t it. Haven’t come across that in a very long time.

It’s only the fornication that keeps him off the sin of Onan.

Whynottryagain · 31/08/2026 15:05

Given you are single and presumably (?) not a practising Christian, sounds fine to me.

Given he is in a position of leadership and is a practising Christian, I think his behaviour isn't right. Although we are all human of course. I also know a variety of vicars/Christians - some don't even believe in God, whereas for others sex outside of marriage would lead to lots of difficult guilty feelings and issues.

I do think yabvu to share it with all your friends and the internet.

Dorothyperky · 31/08/2026 15:05

@Allseeingallknowing I wouldn't have thought so. The Bishops like them married off quickly if there's a sniff of a family in the vicarage.
The intended wife would be sitting in the congregation.

SerafinasGoose · 31/08/2026 14:09

And that was the bit you noticed?

Ha! It may be a yarn but it's a harmless, funny one. What the hell, eh? (Crosses self and says 10 hail Marys).

Make sure you count them out on your rosary 😂

@Lapdog78 Not many women will have Vicar on the bingo card! Has he not even sent a text?

Dorothyperky · 31/08/2026 15:06

'keeping it in his cassock ' as aposed to trousers.

Lsquiggles · 31/08/2026 15:06

Living the Fleabag dream for us all 😂

JoWilkinsonsno1fan · 31/08/2026 15:06

Good for you!! 😀😀 you are both free and single!! fair play!!

muggart · 31/08/2026 15:07

What denomination is he?! i feel we ought to know this before judging him for breaking his religious vows. Maybe it’s allowed.

Lossaloft · 31/08/2026 15:08

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 31/08/2026 14:43

Yes i must admit to being surprised that people think this is so funny.

OP can have sex with who she likes but if the vicar really goes round having sex with random women on their sofas then i think he is in the wrong job. Iwoukld have thought his alchol consumption was quite questionable as well.

I do have a lot of sympathy with this view. Vicars should not be coming onto single women and shagging them. If you are paid to represent your religion you should be trying to uphold its teachings, and that includes making sacrifices for your religion.

I mean, he’s not the plumber or milkman is he?

BunnyLake · 31/08/2026 14:52

Most things that aren’t against the law can have a humorous side.

In his capacity of Vicar he is dealing on a daily basis with vulnerable people. Do you really think a man who has taken religious orders but goes round drinking and then having sex with random women in their homes is a fit person to be helping vulnerable people?
To my mind this is similar to the police officers who prey on vulnerable women and use their position to have sex with them.

Fortheloveoffrogs · 31/08/2026 15:10

Hallelujah! Good for you.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 31/08/2026 15:12

Please tell me the first thing you said after the deed was done was "More tea, vicar?" 😁

Same, as long as he’s Anglican then fill your, erm, boots. Or indeed your kitchen sofa.

I didn’t realise OP was vulnerable. I missed that bit.

To be honest, this also crossed my mind. Although OP did say he was from a nearby parish and not HER vicar, he simply attended the same cycling club. And his occupation just happened to be "vicar"

BansheeOfTheSouth · 31/08/2026 15:16

Lossaloft · 31/08/2026 14:34

Vicars most certainly do have these restrictions. Fornication is a sin and so is adultery.

You better hope the population picks up soon then or King Charles may order fornication under his command.

Assume you are without sin yourself to cast such stones.
