Omg I shagged the vicar

BC for this one!!

last summer I moved to a new village with my 2 teen DC’s following my divorce. I’ve made a real effort to integrate into village life and joined a cycling group which I love.

a couple of new members joined a few months ago, one of whom is the vicar from a nearby parish. He’s 39 single. I’m 43.

on Friday we all met for drinks snd I ended Ho inviting a group back to my house. Kids are away with their dad. We all had a few more drinks at my house before people started heading home. There’s been a little bit of flirtation between me and the vicar and it ended up just me and him- we had some more wine and he was being very complimentary and was clearly trying it on. We ended up kissing and I’m afraid that I ended up shagging him on my kitchen sofa. Very out of character for me.

im now mortified that I have to see him at cycle meet this week. My friends think it’s hilarious but im worried he’ll think I’m loose and common. 😲

And there's me thinking that it was just "lads" that inappropriately shared information about someone they'd just shagged. Were I that vicar, I wouldn't be questioning the fact that I'd shared intimacy with you, but rather that you found it acceptable to broadcast that information to all your many "friends" you have that found this "hilarious". What's the phrase... Discretion is the better part of valour.

Of course, your behaviour is your choice, but if I were that vicar and knew what you'd done, I would certainly diplomatically avoid further contact with you thereafter (and try and be a better judge of character in the future).

Remember, you were an equal party to this, yet you seem to be attempting to exonerate yourself on the basis of him being a vicar. Being honest about it, would you have been so free with this information had it not been a vicar I wonder? Sounds to me as though you regarded this event as something of a "conquest" on your part, following along the same path a teenage boy might behave had he just shagged a nun, then told all his "mates", who found it mightily hilarious. Doesn't come across so well that when you swap the genders, does it?. Methinks the nun in the example would be something of a victim, just like the vicar is now.

@FormerCompositor The thread has MOVED ON!
It's now been used in the Telegraph, the OP has not been here for days and the overall consensus is it's all made up.

It didn't happen.

Of course it is the world of Hans Christian Anderson, but the story still needs attention drawn to the "ladette" nature of sharing such information, true or not.

I don't think many ever believed it but, as ever with certain threads, the hypothetical discussions they lead to are of more significance. In this case a lot of the responses would lead us to believe humans are entirely without morals. Not so, of course: these threads simply draw out a certain type of person.

RtHonLadyMuck · 06/09/2026 11:14

It all sounds very improbable and in the absence of any further updates from OP, I’m assuming it’s a work of fiction!

Topspur · 06/09/2026 12:32

It's a one off you both enjoyed it carry on with your life.

Im not jumping to any conclusions.

According to OP they were not in a relationship and he had unprotected sex with her. It's hardly the actions of someone who takes his calling and his religion seriously and he will no doubt be in serious trouble with the Church Authorities.

Lighten up and get a life!

Its pretty loose and common if you felt the need to tell us on mumsnet.yuk!

mummypigoink · 31/08/2026 13:27

If you’re loose and common, WTF does that make the man whose literal day job is the moral welfare of his parishioners?

Good for you to get some fun!!!!

Why am I the only one who thinks this is skanky, and I'm an atheist!

It has to be a work of fiction. She's just a bored housewife from Slough or somewhere!

Lighten up and get a life!

It’s not a Brian Rix farce. If this really happened he faces the possibility of dismissal, or at least bringing the church into disrepute, and disciplinary .action taken

Roz185 · 06/09/2026 22:21

I wouldn't worry too much unless you are all Roman Catholic and he had taken a vow of celibacy

LBFseBrom · 06/09/2026 22:53

...but you didn't shag the curate-y.

Nearly posted something along the same lines myself when the thread first appeared! I've got that song stuck in my head now. 😂

Most Churches are having such trouble getting any Vicar at all I'm surprised more people aren't doing this . If you lived in our Parish ( we can't get a Vicar ) I'd be cheering you on!

Yup, we are also missing a vicar. This thread should be a keystone of the recruitment process.

I was responsible for writing the job description for a new Vicar, what we expected fom him/her etc., I obviously missed the social side out!
