BC for this one!!

last summer I moved to a new village with my 2 teen DC’s following my divorce. I’ve made a real effort to integrate into village life and joined a cycling group which I love.

a couple of new members joined a few months ago, one of whom is the vicar from a nearby parish. He’s 39 single. I’m 43.

on Friday we all met for drinks snd I ended Ho inviting a group back to my house. Kids are away with their dad. We all had a few more drinks at my house before people started heading home. There’s been a little bit of flirtation between me and the vicar and it ended up just me and him- we had some more wine and he was being very complimentary and was clearly trying it on. We ended up kissing and I’m afraid that I ended up shagging him on my kitchen sofa. Very out of character for me.

im now mortified that I have to see him at cycle meet this week. My friends think it’s hilarious but im worried he’ll think I’m loose and common. 😲

Err I am Catholic so no idea if vicars are meant to be doing this sort of thing? More shocked by the vicar really!

There was a young lady called Maude,
Who wanted a baby from God,
But it weren't the Almighty,
Who crept up her nightie,
But the vicar, the dirty old sod.

The only thing that would make this story complete is if you are called Mary and Jospeh 😅

They are not.

PegLegJim · 01/09/2026 18:24

Good for you. Sounds like you both enjoyed it. Don't stress over it and carry on as normal

Willowywisp · 01/09/2026 18:25

Christ, I wish my life was this exciting/interesting. Good on you.

ThisFairBiscuit · 01/09/2026 18:26

I’m kind of jealous, I’ve always thought vicars were sexy🤩

Jilly Cooper would be better written than this rubbish.

Well yes, that's obvious but it was the subject matter that was Jilly style.

Do you think he’s loose and common? It’s about time, in this day and age, that what’s good for him is good for you!

Cdm - clergy discipline measure. They aren’t supposed to shag the parish. Obvs everybody makes mistakes but )like doctors) vicars are held to a higher standard.

He is the vicar from a nearby parish. So may not technically be her vicar, in terms of her local church.

Missingpop · 01/09/2026 18:43

Under the dog collar he’s a red blooded male & though you both had a tipple too many he obviously found you attractive your both consenting adults so where’s the problem; is it likely to lead to a relationship? Would you like it too? If it didn’t would that bother you? Could you cope with being friends with benefits? Just be yourself act normally & see how it progresses; hopefully he will be a gentleman & tell you where you both stand; good luck to you both it’s great that your having fun after your divorce & moving in new circles I wouldn’t share this with the cycling group though

THEDEACON · 01/09/2026 18:46

Unless hes your vicar theres no problem

Chattycatty · 01/09/2026 18:47

Ah hell I'd be pregnant without a doubt 😂

You have a sofa in your kitchen??

MrExperinced · 01/09/2026 18:56

I’m on a forum to share real life experiences with real life people (to the best of my knowledge it’s real)
jump the shark stories on here are boring and a waste of time, any reading is a time investment, if I’m choosing to invest my time in fiction I’ll read a book or watch tv, i don’t understand the point of these made up scenarios at all, it’s not like you gain kudos points or anything else of equal (non)value by getting the engagement.
it makes sense if it’s mumsnet posting ai crap for engagement, it’s still slop and off putting but for an actual human forum member to do it is completely incomprehensible

They're usually bored and if they can get it trending and notch up a lot of responses it gives them faint glimmers of amusement.

I had one in my old kitchen, and a TV. Not anymore though as no space.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 01/09/2026 19:25

How many other parishioners has he shagged? I'm know it's not an offence that is punishable by death. But I do think it is a bit out of order tbh. Maybe sounds old fashioned.

Like a teacher shagging a pupil. Boundaries, respect etc.

Do the Church of England have guidelines on this sort of thing?

Hallelujah!

Is that the vicarage where Virginia Stephen reputedly went skinny-dipping with Rupert Brooke? He even wrote a poem about it: called “The Old Vicarage, Grantchester”:

In Grantchester their skins are white;
They bathe by day, they bathe by night.

If only time machines were a thing, eh?

A lot of that generation of poets wrote in Grantchester, The Orchard tea room has a lot of information about them, and lovely teas sitting in a deck chair dodging the wasps, Didn't Jeffrey Archer live in the Old Vicarage, not the one on TV?

Remember that old "poem" with the line,
"I prefer the vicar, he's longer and thicker" .......!
Good for you, be interesting to see how he re reacts next time you see him.

It gives me zero amusement. I have found many things funny on here over the years but the obviously made up stuff leaves me dry.
