last summer I moved to a new village with my 2 teen DC’s following my divorce. I’ve made a real effort to integrate into village life and joined a cycling group which I love.

a couple of new members joined a few months ago, one of whom is the vicar from a nearby parish. He’s 39 single. I’m 43.

on Friday we all met for drinks snd I ended Ho inviting a group back to my house. Kids are away with their dad. We all had a few more drinks at my house before people started heading home. There’s been a little bit of flirtation between me and the vicar and it ended up just me and him- we had some more wine and he was being very complimentary and was clearly trying it on. We ended up kissing and I’m afraid that I ended up shagging him on my kitchen sofa. Very out of character for me.

im now mortified that I have to see him at cycle meet this week. My friends think it’s hilarious but im worried he’ll think I’m loose and common. 😲

Tbh it’s starting to sound like a bit of a yarn. Unprotected sex with a vicar you hardly know sounds too much of a modern day bodice ripper. Perhaps someone has become too engrossed in one of those Jilly Cooper books other posters have referenced (I’ve never read them but I used to read Jackie Collins 😁).

Sadly, I also think it's not true. If it was true she would have deleted it out of respect to the vicar.

However, i feel a midsummer murders storyline coming on.

Cycling clubs and sofas in the kitchen are very middle class.

In my story I will have the sexy vicar. Femme fatale cyclist. An old biddy who polishes the vicars brasses. A frumpy young choirister, an organ player - of course. A tea shop. The local pub. Possibly a corner shop where all the gossip happens. We must have old ladies and gossip.

Not sure who gets murdered yet. The femme fatale is always cycling around the village with her skirts billowing around her thighs. The organ player, brass polisher and frumpy choirister are all lusting after the vicar.

The rules aren't set out by their own god they are set by men who wrote a set of rules down in scriptures which then became a book.

Clergy are humans and have been "breaking the rules" since the dawn of the church. People have also been using a book to justify their actions for hundreds of years.

Personally I don't see the point in religion (despite being the daughter of clergy) but take the view point everyone is entitled to their own beliefs as long as it doesn't hurt others.

As I said the most judgemental in a church will judge regardless and hide behind religion or christian beliefs to so so. Personally I view judging that way to be the least Christian thing ever

I think threads start off with posters (including me) thinking something is real purely because making up stupid threads is not on our personal radar, rather than just being gullible. Then bit by bit the OP’s get over excited and start adding more and more absurdity to their posts, sharks are jumping all over the place so that even the most innocent of us 😊 start calling BS.

I was replying to a poster who was using the word fornication unironically and appeared to believe it means casual sex. It doesn't. It means all sex out of marriage.

And there are plenty of people who use the word, or its equivalent in their own language, unironically. For muslim's fornication (zina - the word includes adultery and fornication) can lead to hell. Not everyone in the world is a western atheist, you know.

I just don't care if posts like this are real. As I said upthread, I regard it like a bookclub. It doesn't matter that the book is fiction - its entertaining to discuss the themes and characters anyway. For me, the interesting thing about this thread is how many people genuinely don't realise that Anglican teaching does not support anglican clergy being casual shaggers. That's been fascinating.

Anyway, I regard people who pop up on these threads saying, 'Its not true you know, dumbasses!' as being like someone at a bookclub who keeps saying, ' Its not true you know, stop taking it so seriously!', i,e, completely missing the point as to why people are enjoying making their comments.

You’re right in that they can be entertaining regardless (although not all). Some can be genuinely helpful to posters even if an OP made it up, the core of it can still be experienced by some. It’s takes a while for the penny to drop for me, but then I never seem to know when it’s a reverse either, although some people can spot them a mile away. 😁
