BC for this one!!

last summer I moved to a new village with my 2 teen DC’s following my divorce. I’ve made a real effort to integrate into village life and joined a cycling group which I love.

a couple of new members joined a few months ago, one of whom is the vicar from a nearby parish. He’s 39 single. I’m 43.

on Friday we all met for drinks snd I ended Ho inviting a group back to my house. Kids are away with their dad. We all had a few more drinks at my house before people started heading home. There’s been a little bit of flirtation between me and the vicar and it ended up just me and him- we had some more wine and he was being very complimentary and was clearly trying it on. We ended up kissing and I’m afraid that I ended up shagging him on my kitchen sofa. Very out of character for me.

im now mortified that I have to see him at cycle meet this week. My friends think it’s hilarious but im worried he’ll think I’m loose and common. 😲

No worries ...think you'll both still end up at the pearly gates and not " downstairs" !

CheerfulBunny · 31/08/2026 20:59

I think the expression is 'Did you, aye?'

Theworldsgonemadagain · 31/08/2026 21:01

I think (hope) you're making this up. If it's true he needs to leave his post, it's absolutely hypocritical for him to stand up and do his homilys about marriage and family values when he's shagging around. I'd have zero respect for my Vicar if I found this out.

Vicars tend to be COE they don't chastise sex before marriage there not Catholic!

COE vicars may not chastise people for it but they are supposed to uphold their own religious beliefs. Sex is also for marriage in Protestantism.

Grammarnut · 31/08/2026 20:09

Sex before marriage is actually not a sin. Fornication is, not because it is bad but because appetite without feeling is damaging psychologically. But perhaps the vicar hopes for a longer term relationship?

Mainstream Protestant churches translate the Greek New Testament word porneia (often rendered as "sexual immorality" or "fornication") to include all sexual activity outside of a legally and covenantally recognized marriage between a man and a woman.

Agree with this.

Although I saw a short interview of a young vicar, which pointed towards vicarage being recruited as any other graduates. It didn’t seem to be a requirement for it to be a ‘calling’. I was very surprised.

If he’s managed to do this so soon after meeting you @Damnloginpopup, sounds like he makes it a habit.
I wouldn’t want him to be my vicar if he falls so easily ( I do not attend CofE).

nothingcangowrongnow · 31/08/2026 21:12

Updates regularly pls.. totally invested. Are you going to turn up at his church?

ClemFandngo · 31/08/2026 21:13

I can’t stop thinking about Andrew Scott now! Mmmmmmmmmmmm….

I think shagging the vicar is a great step into integrating in the village, joining the cycle group too. You're doing the right things, keep going.

And you're worried he'll think you're common. That's a hell of a liberty to take on the kitchen sofa. Bent over the aga would have been better in terms of clear-up. Bad planning there, padre.

Joliloily · 31/08/2026 21:15

I love this OP. Just enjoy the fact that you’ll pulled the vicar.

OMG.....I think think have rather he didn't remove his stick instead of getting his holy water all over your sofa! 😆

nrp2 · 31/08/2026 21:26

Surely a kitchen sofa would start to stink abit with cooking smells getting stuck in the fabric 🤔

Motuihe · 31/08/2026 21:30

COUld this be a reverse??😂

It’s pretty common these days to have a kitchen in the kitchen area, and most have cloth these days. I don’t suppose anyone sniffs their sofa on a regular basis.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 31/08/2026 21:41

Very impressive ! My vicar is a woman who looks like Angela Raynor.
Hope he showed you his mighty verses!

cookingonwine · 31/08/2026 21:44

Maybe this is what you both need … go for it …

I don't think that this is true now, though it used to be. The vicar I know best is divorced with a regular girlfriend who is accepted quite naturally in his parish, and I was at uni with a vicar who lived with his gay partner for decades, and married him as soon as gay marriage was introduced.

BlueFahrenheit · 31/08/2026 21:50

How kinky was he?!?!

When I woke up this morning I was unsure how my day would progress.

Tomorrow will never match reading the words "stale vicar spunk" 😂
