Badenoch being her usual charming self:

Q: [From the BBC’s Damian Grammaticas] The target of raising defence spending to 3% of GDP was announced by Liz Truss. But it was dropped by Rishi Sunak. You did not object. And you were also in government when welfare spending went up. So isn’t it the case you have no credibility on this?

Badenoch says the last government had to deal with Covid. And she says she is leader now. She is talking about what she would do now. She has not got a time machine, and can’t ask people about what happened in the past.

I makes you wonder what she actually did when she was in government if she was as powerless as she makes out.

Long term memory loss is a worrying sign regarding mental health.

Indeed. She also talks as if the Tory government was decades ago. She doesn't need a time machine, she was there.

That's the Rollo I remember, I was quite surprised when I found out there was a real one too Grin

Vikings did like their cats

I notice this was just after an answer where she pointed out Andy Burnham was in Jeremy Corbyn"s shadow cabinet - so apparently what he did in the past does matter. Ridiculous inconsistency and defensiveness.

Double standards alive and well!

The problem with Badenoch is that she thinks she's in control of the political narrative echoing Reform UK. The problem with that thinking is obvious,

cardibach · 03/09/2026 13:53

She’s got a new phrase too. Labour are ‘addicted’ to welfare apparently. I have no idea what she thinks this means. It’s utter nonsense.

Maybe putting this into some peoples heads was not a great idea.

The joke about someone shouting "Sexist crap !!!" at a Motorhead concert only for it to be misunderstood as a request still stands 😂

Personally I really remember RP from the Power Station ....

That one gets repeated a lot on MN Confused

Does that mean the Tories are now addicted to warfare?

A lot of army veterans and their families require welfare support.

And pensioners are net recipients ....

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2026 14:33

Ofcourse they don't mean genuine recipients, whatever that means

To completely change the subject it appears Miriam Margolyes has been outrageously racist on daytime TV. Doesn’t surprise me. She did it so: time ago to Will.I.Am on Graham Norton, but this one seems worse. She said he had ‘ a black daddy and a white mummy’ - he isn’t mixed race. Then used an outdated term to describe his colour. Then said it was ok because ‘we include everyone’. Not sure who ‘we” is as Peters was born in the U.K.
I can’t bear MM - she thinks telling everyone she’s lesbian and making crude comments is amusing when actually nobody cares about the first and t( second is boring. This seems like it could have more consequences though (I’d hope).

Ed Davey calls out Yusuf

This is racism, straight out of the Trump playbook. Reform are trying to turn our great country into a franchise of Trump's America.

There are countless British patriots who came here from overseas, many of them refugees we proudly welcomed. That's the kind of country we are.

Well they can’t define genuine because that would limit their options.

The Conservatives have been writing and rewriting the qualifiers for benefits since 2010. They haven’t been magically loosened in the last 2 years. And yet the Conservatives pretend one last turn of the knife is all they need.

cardibach · 03/09/2026 14:38

Well done Ed Davey. That sort of crap needs calling out.

TemperanceWest · 03/09/2026 14:39

Badenoch definitely seems to be borrowing the MN line that most labour supporters are those nasty Muslims or benefit "scroungers "or both.

If she is on MN I bet I know where she hangs out...
