Well done Ed Davey. That sort of crap needs calling out.

Even Piers Morgan called him out!

Dawn Butler

As Chair of the London PLP, I have written to Reform Chairman Lee Anderson on behalf of London Labour MPs following Zia Yusuf’s vile and racist attack on Cllr Sagal Abdi-Wali.

He must retract his remarks and apologise. There is no place for racism in our politics.

The Conservatives have been writing and rewriting the qualifiers for benefits since 2010.

Er, 1979, actually.

Badenoch definitely seems to be borrowing the MN line that most labour supporters are those nasty Muslims or benefit "scroungers "or both.

If she is on MN I bet I know where she hangs out...

She's probably one of those on AIBU who likes to stick the knife in.

True.

Just wading through the flood of posts about the electoral reform bill that passed it's 3rd reading yesterday. Hardly surprising there is little talk of anything else ....

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2026 16:00

I missed that one, Conrefs voted against. Can't have 16/17 years old have a say.

That's correct. But Kemi Badenoch wasn't born then, so it doesn't matter.

But they can be tried for murder in an adult court from the age of ten.

It wasn't just you. The BBC clearly found it too dull for (any) words.

Gloria Steinem has died , figurehead of second wave feminism, at the grand age of 92.

I can't see a singe thread on Mumsnet,

Funny that.

Feel free to correct me!

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2026 16:31

Went back a page and see placemats noticed! Just us two then!

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2026 16:37

Pondering where Zia Yusuf stands on Sir Mo Farah.

I checked, there is a thread in Chat but not many replies and most of those hadn't heard of her

Ah, Mumsnet. The feminist website , with the special feminist board.

My DM, who died last year at the age of 85 adored Steinem, You really don't need to be that old to have heard of her.
Her glasses were iconic!
Did anyone else watch Mrs America when it was on a few years back That was great. Cate Blanchett is the leading role . Steinem was a major character.

I did say a while back that MN is not in any way, shape or form proportionately representative of society generally. Or even 50% of society.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2026 16:55

I know you do, jane.

I shall still hmm about it though , in my loaded fashion! Mainly because MN firmly and regularly asserts it represents 50% of the population.

But which 50% ? And how do you count bots ? 3/5ths of a poster ?

And then it is by definition self selecting anyway.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2026 17:12

Yeah, don't have a board called feminism and then not notice when an actual second wave feminist icon dies.

Yes, watched it during Covid I think. Rachel Weisz as GS.

To clarify that's not where I first heard of Gloria Steinem - she's why I watched it. I would hear my my mother and her friends were talking about her in the late 70s & 80s. I mostly associate her with pro choice although I am aware there was so much more to her.

Notonthestairs · 03/09/2026 17:27

Ah crap. Rose Byrne not Rachel Weisz.

cardibach · 03/09/2026 17:32

I know we keep off trans issues here and they aren’t my point. People on that thread saying she’s ‘captured’ by trans ideology. No love. She disagrees with you. It’s allowed. And she’s massively intelligent, she hasn’t just been influenced by others - it’s her opinion.

No, it was Rose Byrne?
