Let's see if we get any folk calling for a GE because the previous PM is now standing down, and that clearly invalidates the 2024 mandate.

I don’t blame Starmer either - I’m not sure about the optics of him standing down on Burnham’s first proper day, could be seen as good or bad I guess. If I were him I wouldn’t give a shit after the way Burnham and Co behaved though.
I reckon he’s got some sort of international relations job lined up - something at the UN or NATO perhaps?

It wouldn’t surprise me, they’ll use any pretext.

I think that regardless of your views on his policies, communication and his time as Prime Minister, Keir Starmer has done the right thing by standing down.

Gordon Brown and John Major (and I think Rishi Sunak more recently) have been dignified and Keir Starmer will no doubt be the same.

Interesting question. He didn’t stand in previous ones because he wanted a London seat I believe…would be hard to justify not standing for this one really. Not sure he has the balls though.

Edit Going to have to convert yards to metres

It's all so much easier with stubbornly imperial quilting rulers!

And on topic, hopefully sir Keir does have a good job in international relations lined up. It's clearly where he excelled.

I thought it was just me thinking in imperial measurements always use yards/inches when calculating for curtains/fabric etc.

Had do do a lot of measurements for my new blinds off the counter. All in cms.

When buying material it was always in metres because this was how we did it post the metric conversion in the 60s. Do know is that builders prefer millimetres for building.

Yep, DH had to convert to mm when submitting plans for a garage, a few years back.

The stubborn adherence to imperial for anything quilting related is down to it having strong American roots, even though other quilting traditions are available. Naturally, this spills over into bag making and a lot of dressmaking, though my Japanese machines have the metric measurements more prominently marked on the stitch plate than imperial ones.

I suspect that most of us over the age of about 50 readily toggle between. Not Fahrenheit, though. That is nonsensical and can get in the bin.

Yep. You'd feel quite short changed. In fact, their pints are closer to half a litre than our pints and then you would still feel short changed!

And they refuse to chunk their pounds into less unweildy units
