Happy birthday @Piggywaspushed .

There's a hot air balloon gathering in our village this weekend so driving back from swimming I was treated to a lovely panorama of umpteen balloons. It was amusing to see all the cats and cyclists that had pulled over to watch them and take photos and half the village were in the street doing the same. So lovely to see that people still enjoy such innocent pleasures after all the miserable headlines recently.

Happy birthday, @Piggywaspushed and family. Hope you've got enough cake in.

I'm planning a peaceful weekend, DD is in London with friends until Sunday and I have had The Week From Hell so am planning to do very little.

When 9/11 happened I was working abroad in the travel industry.

Watched the planes hit on the news and knew my next few days would be busy. And they were! We had to collect passengers diverted to us, get them to hotels, get them back to the airport when they could fly again.

It's my birthday as I may have mentioned last year . It's hard having a birthday simultaneous to all your American relatives posting 9/11 things.

It's also my NY aunt's wedding anniversary.

My uncle (not her DH) owns the carpentry firm that did the interiors of all the lifts.

Happy birthday 🥂

Weeelll..... 5 lessons teaching may -or may not- be lovely.

That’s one advantage I have of an August birthday - I’m never at work 🎉

Happy birthday @Piggywaspushed 🎉🎂

Thanks all!

I just managed to fall over flat on my face on the way to the restaurant. Ouch.

And I'm happy for Lowelife to be upset.

I was on holiday in Greece on 9/11, staying in a tiny mountain village. I'd been out walking during the day and popped into the village shop and the elderly owner had a small portable tv on. He was clearly upset and was pointing at the telly and shouting. I thought he was watching a film so I just smiled and nodded. Then he got more irate and when I looked back at the screen I could see it was live tv and it was just as the second aircraft hit. Soon half the village was in the shop to watch it.

On a much cheerier note though, one year later to the day I met my now DH and we got married on 9/11 many years later. It's still shocking to see the footage though, it's definitely one of those events that will stick with us all forever.

I was pregnant with ds2. Ds1 was 14 months and I woke up that morning to him crying as he had tried to crawl (presumably) out of his room into mine, only hi babygro had somehow become trapped under the door and he was stuck.

I was aware that some businesses had nurseries attached to them, so when the first plane hit, all I was thinking was "I hope no dc were in there, the combination of late pregnancy and remembering ds crying made my heart break that small dc may have been in the building.
