I had just arrived the day before, into Toronto, where I was going to be for the next week conducting research (into chocolate, fyi!).
My mum, at the same time, was visiting family in Eastern Canada, so we were both 'stranded' as it were.
Not surprisingly, my work was cancelled - nobody wanted to come to a focus group to talk about chocolate - and I was left to try and work out how and when I was going to get home.
We were evacuated from the offices I was working in and then, when I got back to my hotel eventually, we had a fire alarm and had to exit the hotel - via its North and South towers, which was unsettling to say the least.
I think I managed to get on one of the first flights out of Canada at the end of the week. Back to DH, who had had a pretty tough time trying to explain what had happened to our 9 and 6 year olds.
