I never thought I'd see the day when RNLI heroes and their families could be under threat of violence. Another new low for this country.

Notonthestairs · 08/09/2026 10:03

The picture was initially posted on a FB group called South East patriots.

South East patriots are exactly as you'd imagine them to be.

It looks like it was something of a happy coincidence that these women just happened to share a train carriage with the pretend militia.

As pointed out in the thread - if we know that, then the Editors at the Times and Telegraph know that too. Which begs the question why they didnt mention that in the article.

You couldn't blame the volunteers from withdrawing from the RNLI altogether.

TemperanceWest · 08/09/2026 10:06

How can the Telegraph possibly know the women had no connections to the masked fuckwits?

BIossomtoes · 08/09/2026 10:08

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2026 09:58

Just look at the Telegraph's front page

'hurrah for the blackshirts' 2026 style

https://bsky.app/profile/sturdyalex.bsky.social/post/3muxfftjlgs27

That was in the Times as well. The fucking irony of masked men avoiding being identified photographing RNLI volunteers is staggering. Wtf is this country coming to?

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2026 10:09

Telegraph doesn't care, just like with the JPL poll commissioned by Reform and the fake PS vat family

You're saying that the threats to NF are from the far right? Colour me shocked

I take it we are all allowed a wry smile ?

The Times really struggled with the Ch 4 news story as well.

The Times and Telegraph either knew the poll was paid for by Reform and avoided publishing that fact. Or they don't do any due diligence on a story before they print it.

Similarly they either they knew the photograph was taken by a member of the Patriot groups and didn't mention it, or completely failed to do any basic enquiries.

I suspect they knew in both cases and hoped it wouldn't come back to bite them on the arse.

Amazing that the Times and Telegraph editors didn't think her membership was part of the story.

Agree so depressing at what we are becoming black shirts being feted on the front of newspapers whilst RNLI volunteers are hounded makes you weep.

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2026 10:55

The blackshirts are also a faux innocent trend at some mid league football clubs at present .
If anyone else has seen the German film The Wave, rejecting designer labels and embracing shirts of one colour is a first step to groupthink and radicalisation. Excellent film.

I can also see a proliferation of large , ostentatious crosses around boys' necks.

I feel so angry about the targeting of RNLI folk. I joined them today as it was the only thing I could think of to do - put my money where my mouth is etc!

We watched the original 1981 film at school.

That's not the German version though? Presumably you watched a Ron Jones thing? The German transposing of the story is worth hunting down.

It was the American version. It made a big impression on me but I couldn't remember what it was called until the 2008 film came out.

I haven't actually watched that one but I will hunt it down.

Oh excellent idea I shall do the same.

BIWI · 08/09/2026 11:36

Link to a piece by The Bear about the RNLI and dangers to their volunteers, also with a link for donations

Sorry @placemats, I know you don't like The Bear, but this is a good piece, IMVHO.

BIossomtoes · 08/09/2026 11:54

Thank you @TemperanceWest. I’ve just donated too.

I did that 2 years ago. Still do.

"The drowned and the saved" has always resonated deeply. Not sure why ?

I can’t credit a carriage full of these thugs is ok in any sense.

just co-incidence that this deluge of hate and activity on social media happens right after Nige's dodgy donations and moves the narrative away from that focus. 🤔

Possibly but also possibly a move to completely shut down NF at this point and make Restore the ‘voice of the people’? I don’t know though.
