Well if you already found him creepy then this film will just have confirmed your opinion but I don't think he's especially creepy in BIOR. To be honest it looked like he phoned his performance in from elsewhere. Regarding whether he needed the money, he appeared in a lot of crap in the eighties purely for the money (see his famous comment about appearing in Jaws 4). I'm guessing that was his motivation for appearing in BIOR rather than the opportunity to share the screen with a naked teenager.

Yes, in one of his books he says he appeared in crap as he grew up poor and was always paranoid about not being hired again. I hope he isn't a creep.

I like Gyles Brandreth. I had little opinion until I listened to his podcast and it feels like the type of conversation I’m glad still takes place.

Ewan McGregor though, he just seems to play himself every single time. Sometimes that feel appropriate when a character just like him is needed but every time he’s in something it feel like there’s a story being told and it has EM wandering about in it.

Hmm..I'm not sure. Was McGregor playing himself in Trainspotting? Or Velvet Goldmine?

HexInductionHour · 01/09/2026 00:41

@Jane379 he was superb as Halston

Sorry I’ve probably said too much about Lumley already but I can’t resist
sharing this quote from her post the plans
for the garden bridge being shelved by Sadiq Khan with tens of millions already spent:

“All we heard was £60m, £60m, £60m. But . . . it’ll work out at about 32p a person in the UK. It’s not as if we’re stealing bread from people“

She really is a modern day Marie Antoinette.

i wasn't on board with the inclusion of Lumley until this 😡 awful 🖕🏾

I just hate the term National Treasure. A while back pretty much everyone was given National Treasure status it was getting ridiculous. I think people have calmed down dishing it out now. It’s such a revoltingly, cloying, saccharine bullshit term.

Nailed it.

I was too feart to say but yep..not a fan.

Same here. I really have no idea why though!

Mary Berry, unbearable rude snob to anyone she deals with. Everyone that works locally hates her and with good reason

Edited

Wow. Maybe I've picked up on this.
I really don't like her and don't know why.

Bunny65 · 01/09/2026 02:48

Michael Parkinson. As a young woman I found his constant leching over female guests hideous. Raquel Welch, Helen Mirren and Dolly Parton come to mind.

LBFseBrom · 01/09/2026 03:56

David Starkey. He is so rude!

It doesn’t matter, it’s always Ewan McGregor. Sometimes he has a light sabre.

That's incredibly disappointing if true.

So do I. I like both Murray brothers. Andy can be gruff (was especially in the early days) but his heart seems in the right place. I like Judy Murray too.

Me too, just because he's not a slimy charmer doesn't mean he isn't a good person. The whole family are very admirable.

Oh god yes!! I can’t abide Jamie Oliver!!

I used to like him when he first started out. Even bought his cookbook. But then he got on his high horse and started to try and get everything banned.

And someone said Lenny Henry. Again I used to like him back in the day, but in more recent years he’s become such an irritating twat banging on about reparations.

I really admire Jamie Oliver for actually trying to make a difference. To young people trying to get into the business and to children. He is right, young children eat absolute crap at school. The building blocks for health are in the early years. He has also been faithful to his wife which is very rare these days.

Jo Wiley seems to be considered a bit of a national treasure, but she really irritates me. She seems very smug, and her interview technique is awful.

And she plays awful music. Tries to hard to be down with the kids

StormGazing · 01/09/2026 08:03

Has David Walliams got NT status? He’s very creepy and suspect there’s some very strange background lurking under there somewhere

I know someone who did some work for him. He really isn't a nice character.

Unfortunately a lot of celebrities were....Windsor went even further by dating their older brother and then marrying a gangster associate of theirs for years. She did also date one of the actual brothers at one point, I believe.

Gosh i didn't realise she was that involved. Can't imagine justifying that to myself.

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 01/09/2026 08:35

I don’t know if he counts as a national treasure but I cannot stand Ricky Gervais.

Markovenchip · 01/09/2026 08:39

David Attenborough, Gary Lineker.......😗

Sartre · 01/09/2026 08:41

Nigella Lawson irritates me and I’m dreading her on Bake Off, not in the least because of Paul’s inability to contain himself around any woman he’s attracted to although she’s older so he might not be so interested…

I’ve never liked Peter Kay. I think his humour is just a bit stupid, he sort of shouts random words and people fall about laughing. I don’t get it.

I think he’s been cancelled. People literally can’t give away his kids books nowadays.

I stayed at a B &B run by a Gurkha in York last year. It was an impeccable establishment run with great pride. He told me how grateful he was to Joanna Lumley and is obviously a hard working man paying his way in the UK.

I agree, they are lovely people, I have been to two Gurkha restaurants and my uncle served with them, but it did cause issues when arriving suddenly to an area already experiencing housing and social problems.

Well to me he’s still an irritating twat 😂

I never liked him at all either, my parents always watched his chat shows and he did have really good guests on. That was back in the days when guests were real stars/personalitis not z-list celebs and they were extremely entertaining.

I know someone who worked at the record company she was signed to when she first started out, and she referred to her as a loud mouthed little upstart from The GorbalsGrin

Lulu isn’t from the Gorbals.
