What food prep job are you really lazy about?

Christ, I hate grating cheese. If I have to grate, I buy it grated. (But not Parmesan because I'm not a savage)
also real garlic if it's going in a tray bake, but anything else I buy the frozen stuff from Tesco
Dried chilies instead of fresh, and cooked food
haven't sieved flour for 30 years yet unknown for my brilliant sponge cakes

Peeling carrots. I despise it, I buy the fresh batons.
Is rather feel a sack of spuds than peel a bag of carrots .

Lol I always find the prepped ones a bit weird and flappy like a half erection

I enjoyed the thread the other day where posters had apparently never heard of dried parsley and wouldn’t even know where to purchase it hahaha

My mum prides herself on her mashed potatoes and is a snob about cooking from scratch. At my auntys Christmas dinner was begging her for the recipe, it was smash!

I love it that you're all such Slatterns 🥰🥰

@Isthismykarma but parsley is so cheap and dried parsley is just Green food colouring

The first pp had it right - all of it.
I mainly eat toast.

If I do eat veg, I end up with root veg because greens go off so quickly and then there's peeling as well as chopping...
I also buy grated cheese and have never bought a block of parmesan!

I do agree it’s not as good, but come on they claimed to have never heard of it!

MellowSubmarine · Yesterday 20:14

I put things in the food processor if they need chopping, like onions.

Edited

As a non cook, I think that was a misunderstanding. The word jar made people think of a jam jar type thing, whereas they might think of what dried herbs come in as pots.

Denim4ever · Yesterday 20:18

I barely use grated cheese so not an issue. I don't like cleaning the garlic press, so I often just chop it.

I would never bother with either fresh or dried. I thought parsley was just something restaurants added as a garnish. What does it actually add to a dish?

BigGra · Yesterday 20:22

Frozen and chopped onion, garlic, chilli and various herbs and soffritto mix.

Sassylovesbooks · Yesterday 20:23

Peeling potatoes! I'm happy to peel other vegetables but potatoes just annoy me!

newmenewwhatever · Yesterday 20:24

Frozen
garlic
ginger
onion
peppers
spinach
microwave
m&s mash
rice pouches

Whynottryagain · Yesterday 20:26

Mostly just frozen garlic.

I hate peeling spherical things, particularly apples and pumpkins, but still do it when I want a crumble. It's less torturous now I bought a good peeler.

Grating cheese or chopping onions doesn't bother me at all. I enjoy cooking including most of the prepping.

Sgtmajormummy · Yesterday 20:28

Potatoes are cooked in their skins (baked or air fried) and mash comes frozen in pellets.
Bags of grated Parmesan because if I buy a block people just chisel away at it and it’s gone in no time.
Bagged salads because there’s more variety.
Rotisserie chicken for lazy weekend lunch and sandwiches from the leftovers.
The only fresh herb I buy is basil plants.

iCod · Yesterday 20:28

Totally agree about Rice pouches, I will let you all have that one

Peeling. Peeling anything. I cook potatoes with the skin on, I've got a garlic crusher that holds on to the skin. I balk a bit at apples because I hate the skin on those, but I've found if I take the core out and bake them stuffed I can eat the skin. And I buy frozen butternut squash and carrots.

I just hate peeling!

this is great for apples. Game changer.

Me too but thankfully I don't eat them , the rest of the family do though.

Try to do healthy, cheap meals with as little fuss as possible-just salmon in the oven, or bowls with say tuna/sardines from can, quinoa/spinach/chickpeas etc. Takes hardly any time.
