I’m watching A Place In The Sun

On C4 right now.

I have this on most days cos I love seeing all the apartments. One thing is bugging me though. The apartments that have swimming pools whether private or shared with several other properties NEVER EVER have a single soul using them. It’s always a picture perfect view of a pristine pool, nobody laid on a sun lounger, no noisy kids splashing about, nothing!
I’m assuming that the camera crew must chase everyone using the pool area out of the way so they can get the perfect picture postcard shot.

I do realise there are bigger problems going on the world 🙈 but it’s just a little peeve!

Another one is ‘room for entertaining’. They are moving to completely new locations on their own, where they don’t know anyone. Who are they going to be entertaining so frequently that this is a dealbreaker?

It’s a close relation to the huge rural house in middle of nowhere and needing room for ‘all the frequent visitors!!’ Not quite grasping that many visitors don’t want to be stuck with you 24/7 and it’s not their fantasy! it’s ( in my opinion) a lot about your fantasy life, not the one you will actually be having

I watched a couple last night
It had everything mentioned unwise frocks
Ooh look at the space
Pleanty of wardrobe space
Unwise frock and shorts and T shirt walking hand in hand on the beach
Nasty orange juice

The smug scottish couple put in a cheeky offer which was rejected and then the buyer didnt want to go on wih any futher negotiations they looked a bit put out
.

Do you suppose the producers tell them to hold hands? Surely they can’t all do it spontaneously? Or do they think of it as a required part of being on the programme, like saying ‘Good-sized bedroom’ and ‘I can see myself out here with a glass of vino’?

dreamingofgoodhair · 31/08/2026 09:24

arlequin · 27/08/2026 18:44

“I could just see myself here of an evening with a glass of wine” will be said at least once per episode

They’re always going to be doing lots of bbqs as well.

Yeah one of the reasons the smug scottish couple rejected one of the apartments last night was because only Gas bbqs were allowed on the terraces .

placemats · 31/08/2026 09:44

Randomly watch it and always conclude they won't buy it or withdraw the offer. One day the happy couple went to view a holiday house we had stayed in about 4 years previously! It hadn't changed a bit and we weren't at all surprised that no offer was made - it was a good holiday home in a lovely little village - about an hour from Carcassonne.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 31/08/2026 09:55

There was a couple who were demanding the price be dropped and the vendor install central heating, in Spain. The woman had a face like a slapped arse. She couldn’t understand why the vendor wouldn’t accept their really stupid offer.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 31/08/2026 09:56

I always wonder why very dated kitchens are always described as lovely. When it the UK it would be “it needs a new kitchen”

Cotopaxi · 31/08/2026 10:00

I'm inclined to think that at the back of the production team's minds when they are choosing the apartments etc to show to the next lot of hopefuls, that they want to convey that the couples are fools for even considering this daft notion.

Some of the ‘cheeky offers’ are cringeworthy 😬

Also living in Spain. Some episodes have been filmed near us.

My husband and I mostly watch it to be able to take the piss, the same as everyone else here! There are Dave and Marion - very strange people in our view - walking around this tiny, poky, hideously dated apartment overstuffed with dreadful orange pine, going on about how light, bright and modern it is. On the way in they said how lovely the communal pool area is, despite clearly not having seen any maintenance for decades. Followed up by the traditional 'what a view', when you can just about spot the sea by climbing on a chair and cricking your neck - it's a view of other people's poky apartments, you dozy twonk! We spend the whole episode shaking our heads in disgust and wonder if these people are leaving their brains at home when they leave for this trip.

I've tried to be generous about it. I wonder if maybe living somewhere very grey, cold and rainy skews their eyesight a bit, and what we see as rundown, cramped and overly touristy does indeed look bright, exotic and sophisticated to them. Just because it's very different to what they're used to and we're jaded by now. It's the only explanation I can find for some of the bollocks they spout.

This is a very old American comedian who would sympathise Bob Newhart

i really dont see the attraction of a place in the sun and therefore do not watch it
i have watched escape to the country
and often annoyed
one was filmed near me and the woman was so emotional that they decided she need to sort out her mental health before they relocated
and yes, they never want to down size

Contraryjane · 31/08/2026 10:16

ETTC; they walk into the kitchen…..wife’s face falls “it’s not really any bigger than we’ve got now”.
Same with the bedrooms….and garden….

Sereine · 31/08/2026 10:17

I remember one of those programmes where they were deciding between going abroad and staying in the UK. It was always obvious they were going to go for abroad, simply because the bloke wanted it and he had a very forceful personality. But it was quite sad that one of the big factors in their choice was having room for all the visitors they were convinced they were going to have - but the place they ultimately went for was quite inaccessible and expensive, and it was sooooo obvious that the visitors just were not going to appear.

mondaytosunday · 31/08/2026 10:18

It’s how they like those awful indentikit two bed flats on complexes. They say they have friends and family they want to accommodate but unless they’re going to supply a dozen air mattresses where are they going to fit? And yes the ‘amazing view’ is often not that at all, but maybe it’s relative and to them the view is much better than what they are used to. I do enjoy it as I see different parts of the world and do get excited when I see they are featuring the area where my family have a holiday house. I do worry that some of them are quite old though.

Cotopaxi · 31/08/2026 10:44

For me, an 'amazing view' is not a vista looking out over a host of sun-baked rooftops towards a view of an orchard containing a handful of ancient scabby olive trees with an equally ancient donkey's arse protruding from a tumbledown shack and a thin blue line on the distant horizon, but there you go.

paomara · 31/08/2026 11:17

It's a lot of money to spend for a glass of wine and endless bills, taxes, management fees and renovation though. That's me with my misery hat on. Not jell at all nope.

TBF, they’d be better off renting a place for 3 months in the winter. Probably cheaper and a lot less hassle.

OccasionalHope · 31/08/2026 13:34

I find Jasmine very condescending. I like Craig best although I don't think he actually knows much about property.

I get very bored with Spain and prefer anywhere else.

Have you noticed how many of the couples are on second marriages?

DetailRedacted · 31/08/2026 14:07

As regards the couples always holding hands on APITS I must admit DH of almost 30years and I always hold hands when we’re out together. Other people may find it a bit twee but it just seems natural to us!

Are you wearing an unwise frock
And Dh wearing shorts and T shirt though?

Recklessismymiddlename · 01/09/2026 08:56

I’m always in an unwise frock according to my sibling. I’d say she’s probably right tbh. 😁 and my unwise frock has always got to have pockets. Or it goes back to shop.

the80sweregreat · 01/09/2026 09:01

Dresses don’t suit me, but occasionally they do wear jeans or leggings or cropped trousers , so I’d have to wear something like that if I went on it and hope it’s not during the summer season !
I did watch Neil Jones and his wife Chyna on the celeb escape to the country and they both came across well . Chyna was lovely and they liked everything in Yorkshire! Seemed nice and I was never a big fan of his on strictly tbh.

DetailRedacted · 01/09/2026 09:33

@x2boys there are definitely no unwise frocks in this aging rock chicks wardrobe 😂 and my DH wouldn’t be seen dead in shorts.

But if they have pockets they are Wise Frocks!
