Why is Taylor Swift ‘leading’ tributes to Dolly Parton?

It’s irritating the ever living shit out of me. Fuck off Taylor, go and think up another publicity stunt. A woman with actual talent has died, this isn’t a bandwagon for you to jump your plastic ass on. Have you read her torrent of drivel - she manages to shoehorn herself into the spotlight throughout. It reads as if she views Parton as laying the groundwork for her own career - monumental fuckwittery.

Ooh hilarious. But you are proving my point that Swift creates an unpleasant clique with her manufactured noise, so thanks for that I guess.

Okay, Swifties, you all bought into her expensive tours/merchandise and anodyne Muzak and you don’t agree that without her tiger parents and technology she’d be playing in the back room of a pub. Cool. We can disagree.

All the insults in the world won’t change my mind that having a talentless Barbie use the death of a genuinely talented and philanthropic feminist as a chance to be in the headlines is frankly revolting. Yes, I was in fact busy having a life today, sorry for not spending the day being told that my opinion was wrong because it’s not yours.
Peace out.

I am 70 and unsurprisingly, not a Swifty.

But virtually every celebrity has given a tribute to Dolly, so it's hardly unusual that a singer so close to her has made a public statement after her death. Again, you're refusing to acknowledge the fact that it was the news outlet that used the word leading. Not her.

As many have said, your mean spirited response is SO far from what Dolly Parton stood for, that it's quite bizarre. If you want to respect her, be more Dolly.

Well said @saraclara 👏

I’m not a Swifty by any stretch, but what could be wrong with Taylor Swift posting a tribute to Dolly Parton when they clearly knew and had respect for each other? It would have been more odd if she hadn’t done so in view of the fact that a lot of other celebrities have. And it was the media who spoke about her leading the tributes, she didn’t say this herself!

And why all the vitriol? So ridiculously dramatic and yes, misogynistic too.

BatchCookBabe · 26/08/2026 21:36

Exactly @LizzieW1969 it seems perfectly normal and natural for Taylor to have posted a tribute to Dolly Parton. They were both in the same industry, and Taylor started out as a country singer, and Dolly was a big influence on her. They're also both beautiful, talented, successful singer-songwriters with huge fan bases. They have lots in common. Taylor admired Dolly, and Dolly admired Taylor.

DurinsBane · 26/08/2026 22:22

Probably because she is the most successful country artist of the moment?

You write this and you have the nerve to call other posters unpleasant and insulting?

Are you, perchance, on glue?

I reckon I could name three Taylor Swift songs. Four, at a push. So I don’t think I’m a Swiftie. But you carry on, tilting at windmills…

My initial reaction too.

Haven't seen Miley Cyrus' name mentioned at all.

Loved Dolly, a true legend and one of a kind. 🫶

I have seen Miley C mentioned a fair bit. LMGTFY…

Why do I get the feeling that if TS hadn’t posted anything, OP would have started a thread calling her a heartless bitch..?

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 27/08/2026 00:20

This thread is actually romantic.

BTW she prefers boring Barbie to talentless Barbie, but you do you.

Hey OP-
"we see you over there on the internet
Comparing all the girls who are killing it
But we figured you out
We all know now, we all got crowns
You need to calm down"

From a feminist pov I find it interesting how Taylor Swift is the target of so much hatred for some people. Any mention and they're frothing at the mouth.
I am curious as to why she particularly attracts such vitriol. I think it's because she is successful on her own terms as well as being quite stereotypically pretty and blonde, as well as often very cheerful and smiley. I think there's something in that that makes certain people want to take her down a peg. And that says a lot more about them than her.

You’re obviously very embarrassed that you’ve not understood that ‘leading the tributes’ is just a media headline and not something she herself has engineered with every other artist. You can just admit that you know. All of the other bile you’ve spewed is just lashing out because you’re embarrassed.

Agree with that and as well, though I don't know what she was like at the very start b/c I was only aware of her when she got really famous over here- she seems calmly confident and had a plan. She "poured herself a cup of ambition". Maybe that is what you meant by "successful on her own terms". How dare she.

purely from a factual perspective, they don't really have 'back room of a pub' in america, so it is, in fact, highly unlikely she'd be playing in one if she wasn't famous. 'Corner of a dive bar,' maybe.

Yes, I agree with this. I don't think some people like it that a very pretty, privileged middle class young woman who had lots of help and support from her parents, and comes from a loving background, is so massively successful.

People who started off with advantage can be talented too. Damian Lewis and Dominic West went to Eton, DL talks about working in a call centre when starting out as an actor though.

Dolly was from an opposite situation and it made her achievements all the more laudable, but I see no sign there was an ounce of bitterness in her.

SheilaFentiman · 27/08/2026 17:31

There’s a lovely reel of Dolly thanking Taylor and Travis for a large donation to her charity and joking that they would/will make an amazing baby.

ETA still feeling classy, OP?
