Misandry and Mumsnet

Is it acceptable to hate on men openly without apology? Would it be ok of it were the other way round.

As a woman and mother of sons, the attitudes and comments on MN border on hate speech and I think Mumsnet HQ should do something about it.

Is this really how we want to balance the scales?

Same here if you don't automatically agree with the hate you get accused of being a man

I do think that is a bit of a myth, to be honest.

I’ve been accused of being a man on here more than once. Because I don’t immediately jump to LTB.

Lots of men are awful, but lots aren’t awful too. I am one of the parents that has raised a good man who would not lay a finger on a woman, coerce or control, belittle.

The times I have been accused of being a man is when I have stood up for them when they’ve clearly needed help with their mental health due to depression and anxiety etc. I’ve found that there are some people who hate all men and will never allow them to be in a tough place, even when they’re asking for support.

I also know that before seeking help for a mental health issue, I treated my husband poorly at times. Not abusive or anything, but I have made mean comments or raised my voice, and I shouldn’t have. But my husband has supported me and helped me to get better. If it were a man who was struggling with their temper and had said some mean things then I would be told to leave him rather than to support him like he did with me…it’s just odd.

But underneath it all, the problem remains that there are far too many bad men. And we need to make sure we support women to get away from them. Unfortunately that can mean that the hate gets out of hand on here…I wish it didn’t

Men who can't control their temper can be very dangerous. The fact that the behaviour stems from a mental health problem makes their partners and children no safer. If a woman is abused by a man for whatever reason, the responsible advice is to get herself and her children to a safe space. She can continue to support from there if she wants to.
Women who post on here about their own anger issues are actually given a very hard time in many cases. I have seen women branded 'abusers' for single instances of loss of temper and roundly shamed, told their partners should leave them, even when there is no risk to the man. Because as usual women are held to a very high standard of behaviour.
Yes advice can be women centred, but what would you expect on a site where predominantly women are seeking advice from other women and in the context of a world where men pose a vastly greater risk to us than we do to them?
I don't believe people with your view point are men. I think you are women who aren't differentiating between discussions of patterns in male behaviour and a personal attack on the men you love.
Ime decent men don't come onto MN to scold women for 'misandry' they've usually seen enough bad male behaviour themselves to agree. There's a handful of MRA on here but they're usually easy to spot.
