Partner unhappy with my outfit choice for a warm barbecue

So im Currently at a bbq with friends, only a few i dont know.
Its really quite warm and sunny, what i would call beach weather. My DP has quesgioned my chice of clothing on this paricularly warm day which consists of denim mini skirt and a close fitting crop top, its alittle sheer with diamantee style lettering to the front.
In heat like this i would normally be in a bikini in the garden.
I think hes well out of order

Would the OP say anything to her DH if he attempted or did venture out in something that other people might pass comment on. But not in a good way. That looked a bit naff ? Or would DH hope that she might say something beforehand?

I wear similar op, I'm 36 🤣 you're not too old at all. I'm in small dresses, skirts tops etc and bikini in the garden. He's just insecure I reckon. Wear what you want!! X

What's the general dress code with the other guests. How many are wearing similar outfits. If you have the figure for a mini skirt and cropped top and there are others dressed similarly then I can't see the problem , if he regularly goes out with you when you wear similar outfits.

Personally when I was your age, I would have worn either the mini skirt and a nice top down to the waist band, or a cropped top with maxi or midi skirt or baggy trousers, with some nice sandals or canvas shoes .. Not both together.

It does sound like a strange outfit for a bbq but it's your choice not his.

Babe, you are perfectly entitled to wear a skirt and a crop top at a casual BBQ. There is no age restriction on these items of clothes 🤣 Who cares what your partner or anyone on MN says for that matter.
If you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing, that's all that matters. Going to MN for validation is probably a terrible idea and I would discourage that in future 😅

It's 18 degrees where I am in Yorkshire. Imagine some parts of the UK are warmer but I am warm enough in a similar outfit to the OP.

When it comes to what women wear, I am more concerned about women who are forced to cover up in a man's world, than I am of those who choose to wear something because they can. Even if others may not approve of it.

I think nowhere is what you would consider hot today in the UK.

Is what you are wearing somewhat similar to what other women are wearing at the barbecue? If not, maybe it makes him uncomfortable? You wear what you want.

It’s not. The only thing that’s similar is the denim skirt, posters are being disingenuous comparing the two.
Kate Moss would quite clearly not team it with a sheer, diamonte crop top.
