Does anyone else feel the UK is heading towards a crisis?

Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

There's an erosion of everything, from care to ability to play a sport, access to water, building with no infrastructure or indeed any focus on how it is built, transport, to anti social behaviour... and then there's the issue of the inept that manage our country!! Education is about to be dumbed down (you really should be worried about how this will separate our society) and then there's health, not just the NHS but the divide in approach to it. I really do feel like I'm in a Dickens novel at times.

Oh absolutely. It’s the absolutely tiny number of asylum seekers that are DEFINITELY the problem. They’re living in hotels being paid for by us whilst somehow also simultaneously taking all the council houses. They’re lazy and claiming all the benefits so they don’t have to work whilst somehow also “coming over here, taking all our jobs”. They’re committing all the rapes, whilst simultaneously kindly allowing the white british men who commit the vast majority of rapes and sexual assaults in the UK to have a go as well. They’re forcing us all to be Muslim and implementing Sharia law, despite less than 7% of the UK being Muslim and the vast majority of those being British born.

That’s definitely the issue, not the billionaires and huge corporations evading their taxes whilst benefiting from the system. Asylum seekers are definitely the issue, not people like Farage who want you to hate brown people and focus your anger on the fact you don’t have what he has on immigrants, who don’t have what he has either, not on him and his pals for profiteering mercilessly and taking more than their share.

Well done, you for figuring it out….. Hmm

Do YOU not find it worrying that the Government have resorted to printing out leaflets, explaining to these illegal immigrants that it's not ok to rape or beat women and children?

UK and the whole world is either close to or already in crisis. It's terrifying.

The UK is getting worse not better, there are soo many restrictikns these days and the cost of living is crazy.
I think the govdenment is really pressuring us in what we can and cant do its silly.
Banning disposable BBQs is insane, next will be alll BBQs

It most DEFINITELY is! 🤷🏼‍♀️

IT MOST DEFINITELY ISN'T 😁

I'll go one further and say having to pay to see a private dentist isn't the very definition of a country in decline. Nor is the very small amount of undocumented immigrants that you've been trained to fear.

Applepieandcustard555 · 23/08/2026 08:52

Lemonfrost · 23/08/2026 08:23

And you do realise that not every issue and challenge is related to immigration?

I understand totally that not every problem in this Country is related to immigration, but ILLEGAL immigration IS a massive problem, most people can see this, except for people like yourself.

Sorry I’m in my 50s and see younger generations spending far more on luxuries let alone essentials than I did in my 20s to 30s and far more than I am now!You are supposed to spend more on essentials when you’re younger because you’re building a life! !!!Since when have generations walked out of home at 18 to the same finances as those in retirement or below? The sense of entitlement now is insane. We’ve all struggled in our early years. It’s called life .

I could afford my own small flat when I was in my early 20s, whilst earning a pretty low wage. No one can do that today without help from family/windfall etc. Housing costs have increased by 2 or 3 times higher than the rate of wage rises, both in terms of renting and buying. My son is a relatively highly paid graduate and buying a flat is way outside his financial abilities.

Yes, there are some younger people spending a lot/borrowing for what you'd consider "luxuries", but lots aren't. Anecdote isn't data. I could argue that "all" pensioners are rich because when I go on a cruise, most of the passengers are pensioners - generalities and anecdote don't show the full picture.

@AmethystDeceiverconsidering dentistry used to be free why isn’t a sign of decline that families now have to pay for treatment for their dc?

I agree why should we pay for private dentistry it should be provided, same as seeing hour family doctor is now a thing of the past

We had years of little investment by government & business and this was when interest rates were low. The can was kicked down the road & we ran out of road

But part of the national debt problem IS that we took debt at a low interest rate (the country has been in constant deficit for many years). That debt is now being churned as it was never paid off, and it's having to be re-financed at higher interest rates. So the "borrow at low interest rates" has proved to be a pretty bad as lots of people predicted at the time. Debt doesn't go away until it's repaid, and we've not repaid any debt (net) for years (I think we've only repaid anything (net) in a couple of years out of the last 30+. Debt taken out a few years ago at historic lows is now being repaid and replaced by debt at higher interest rates. Taking out low interest debt as a solution only works if you have a tangible plan to be able to pay it off at the end of the low interest term. The UK didn't have such a plan! And borrowing to pay running costs is insane - borrowing should have only ever been to fund investment and growth - the UK borrowed to "balance" the budget to fund routine annual costs like health, benefits, education, foreign aid, etc.

You have no idea of where I live, or my background. I keep reading so much hyperbole here, regarding asylum seekers/ immigrants. It is ridiculous. The Government, and the media have done a number, on the majority of the population, that is for sure.

Because look around you - not just on social media and Daily Mail type press, but more broadly and widely. We, all of us humans, are living in a world that is getting hotter, more expensive, and more reactionary and right wing. This is not a UK issue, globally we are all in a bit of a mess. We are living for an awfully long time these days. We consume a lot in our life times and outsource even more consumption. We expect what we think our parents generation had but have no ideas on how to get it, aside from some vague notion of not letting brown people get there first.

Having to spend £80 every six months on the dentist is not the massive sign of decline you think it is.

emuloc · 23/08/2026 08:44

You forgot to mention the free driving lessons, and the free cars that they are supposed to be getting as well.🥱

And all the free access into British National Heritage sites.

poolshoes · 23/08/2026 09:04

Whereas I think taking services away from children which I had as a child particularly ones that influence health does represent a decline.

We really have taken a lot away from the young, these are our future workers, imo they should have more investment.

emuloc · 23/08/2026 09:07

Applepieandcustard555 · 23/08/2026 09:04

The same British National Heritage sites, that were only able to be built in the first place, due to exploitation, and free labour of others?

poolshoes · 23/08/2026 09:07

Oh I don’t read the DM or think brown people are the issue so not sure what you are trying to teach me there!

Dollymylove · 23/08/2026 09:07

Besidemyselfwithworry · 23/08/2026 00:38

One of the school mums I know is a health visitor and she said that a huge number of people aren’t taking their kids to the dentist if they can’t go for free. I think it almost boarders on neglect and like she said the people she visits who moan they can’t afford to take this kids all have the latest play stations, brand new sofas, are going on holiday, potentially smoke, drink, go out for meals etc etc yet they can’t spare £20 for a kids check up every 6-12 months.

priorities

Childrens dentistry should be free.
Also all adults should be able to access NHS dentistry.
Cheers Tony Blair 😬

I've lived in the UK for 22 years (immigrant alert!!) don't worry though, I came from a richer country than the UK, I'm not one of the poor ones 😁

In all of my time here I've never seen easily accessible good quality dentistry available on the NHS. How far back are you going? I used to pay for my son to see a dentist in my home country, a 7 hour flight away, as it was quicker and easier!

Yes it is and they will outbreed us eventually however that’s not the cause of this shitshow we’re currently experiencing, it’s a separate issue

They can!!! I know 2 separate young people who have not gone to uni and have just bought at the very bottom of the ladder. Has made me question advising uni for our kids. They are doing masses of overtime, not doing expensive renovations and bought places many young people would turn their noses up at. We didn’t buy until our late20s/ early 30s and had 2 good salaries. Coming up for retirement now.

I agree with this to a point re education

The gap here is that we teach in one way and one style. Many many pupils simply need that to be tweaked so they can access education and I can't stress enough that mostly our system cannot cope with the smallest of tweaks.

Eg instead of forcing all DC down the phonics path and testing them on phonics , early on introduce sight reading instead and see how they get on with that !
Impossible for a system that has a phonics test baked in which is used a a gage to reflect school reading success

Typical that the passing of the phonics test matters more than the point of it which is children learning to read.

That is one of the biggest stumbling blocks we have and yet biggest key to DC accessing education and not being locked out.
We think if our DC is struggling there is a.system. that kicks into place.
Folks ! Unless your an outlier there is no system.
How can barely educated /disinterested parents / parents that trust the system know this that you as the parent have to step in ??

Each time any gov says they will tackle education and poor literacy figures I get my hopes raised that they will tackle this very simple foundation but each new education secretly misses this simple basic point.

Op over all I think the world is in a state of flux and it's one thing after an another and it feels like we live through one trauma and then another one comes straight in ,it feels relentless.

I'm also so fed up with cost of living end no energy secerity in sight.

However many other countries share the problems we face and they are tackling issues.

We left from there! Used to be a lovely market town - influx of European workers came in and the gangs were obscene. Our house we were renting out to a family became a 50 people plus house sleeping on the floors and then vans coming to pick them up every day. We stopped going into Boston due to the violence- woodhall became our local town!

I’m nearly 40, for my entire life Boston has been known as essentially a giant sink estate with an extremely obese population, high crime and low literacy levels.
