Does anyone else feel the UK is heading towards a crisis?

Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Its been terrible this summer I can't imagine what this winter will be like all around even staff who didn't get a break this summer

As a country we have far bigger issues than a disposable BBQ ban

I can assure you that the person who has "literally got no idea" is you. I often deal with foreign nationals and immigration status issue.

The debts are entirely caused by privatization - public debt, private profit. We are paying double or triple what we should be paying for worse services so that shareholders can make profits. Think of housing, water, transport, energy, education especially SEN education - all privatised, all making money hand over fist for a very few. Sadly they are the ones running the country.

We cannot afford this rise in billionaires. This is a socio-economic collapse in action. There is worse to come.

Do you nothing think that hasn’t happened in other countries previously?

Do you know any young person without an expensive phone,way more clothes and skincare than we ever had, who don’t go on holidays more than we did, who don’t have a lot of coffees, eat out and take aways( a McDonald’s was a rare treat when I was little), aren’t engaging in hauls, not going to expensive festivals ….. because I don’t and we don’t move in rich circles, far from it.

News flash it all costs money and you can’t have it both ways! Social media makes young people think a lot of expensive things are a right. They’re not. You either go without and have better security or you fritter money and have little. Thems your choices.

And som classic Boston families from Fenside 🤣 i left a while ago but we used to go out to after dark but we went back for a reunion and we ended up leaving Boston and finding a pub as it didn’t feel safe / happy being out there . Still very fond of it though!

Totally agree. The biggest threat facing the UK right now is the shortage of critical thinking. This thread evidences it beautifully.

It’s not impossible though and frankly if they frittered less on crap and started saving an awful lot earlier they’d find life so much easier.

NHS dentistry was reasonably accessible in the 1980s.

dentists began leaving the nhs in bigger numbers in the 1990s but at that time many offered nhs dentistry until 18 and then private.

these days it tends to be private only.

It isn't just about money being spent, it's the cost of the properties. People can't get a mortgage for the amount they need, even working full time. Many people would need another £40k deposit to make anything work. They aren't spending that on what you describe. Cut all spending and you can save another £5k a year, but six years later the property has gone up again and now younger people are competing with cash/builder/HMO/Airbnb etc buyers.

Harder doesn’t mean impossible….

I don't disagree that very rapid immigration into Boston changed the town very quickly in a county with very, very low immigration. It was always going to cause problems. The riots and heavy Brexit vote surprised no one. But I'm not sure I agree Boston was 'a lovely market town'. 20 years ago, it was run down, had enormous generational poverty, poor schooling (one of the only large market towns in an enormous county without a grammar school) and problems with drugs (again in a county with low levels of organised crimes). The fens have always been a relatively deprived, low-income area.

When I visited recently, it genuinely did seem like a lovely market town. Fantastic cafes. I'm not saying that immigration was managed well there (it really, really wasn't) but the town seems better kept to me than it ever has.

(Also, Woodhall Spa is lovely - I'd love to live closer!)

The people who live in places like Surrey won’t listen. They don’t see it so it’s not happening and everything is ok

The country is living beyond its means it’s not hard to work out
as any other person or family in this group will know it has to cut frivolous outgoings and make some hard choices
then keep its head down and keep working until it turns around
any normal person does not look very far to find savings in government

Well when you consider the price of phones and headphones many feel the need to update at a regular pace alongside the hoards of clothes, Korean skincare, takeaway/fast food,coffees drinks( as opposed to a bottle of water filled at home and a home made sandwich), seasonal nails and seasonal house crap, holidays etc yes it will. Very much so if you start saving as soon as you can.

Younger people have less disposable income than previous generations did at the same age so you need to look outside your narrow experience @SunmerWater
