Does anyone else feel the UK is heading towards a crisis?

Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

Ok, I’ve explained my views. I’ve tried to get you to explain yours without success! I’ll leave you to it.

A tip if you want to hear from others, ask the question but don’t say ‘you can’t’ at the same time.

You might get an answer.

BermudaRhombus · 24/08/2026 11:04

And here’s a tip for you. If you’re asked a question and keep avoiding it, then people will conclude that you can’t answer it! You must be very new to this 😆

You might but you probably get it often if you do as you have.

Every question ends with a ‘you can’t’

BermudaRhombus · 24/08/2026 11:11

No, I can safely say that you’re the only person. Utterly bizarre.

Sure, although if you don’t always do as you have here that’s a plus I guess. And apart from your bizarre ‘you can’t’ I’ve answered with what I want below. Scroll back or don’t

We are in a crisis, and have been for some time, living standards are plummetting we have high inflation and no wage growth- this has been going on since well before Covid, minas the inflation, and got expenentially worse with Covid. It has been increasingly alarming with very little job security and increasing damaging weather events.

I wouldn't waste your time. Its quite common here that when people don't have an argument they resort to these strange sorts of games.

It is really worrying. Heading into winter now which is always a bit grim and heating costs keep going up.

Pp has a point though, n/c or no n/c. 😬Some posters relentlessly demand answers from others, but ignore questions asked of them. You didn't respond to my question, for example.

Which one was that?

I’ve been clear on what I want, you or the pp can scroll I take it.

Geranium22296 · 24/08/2026 12:11

Ive not nc'd. I just agreed with a point a PP made.

My question that you ignored was: so if we fix the system so that no men who are sexual predators can enter the UK, then what next? Is it job done?

No in answer to that, but it seems to be an excuse for not fixing what we can. Why is that?

If 3 million people died every year from car accidents, and 3 people a year died every year from roller skating accidents, would you want all the safety efforts, media attention and outrage to be on cars, or roller skates….?

You are all screaming at roller skates.

I think you are the most condescending poster I’ve ever come across.

I have not said the issue doesn't need fixing or should not be fixed, don't put words into my mouth, please.

So what would you want to happen next?

It’s a start that more women are saying it’s a problem and should be fixed, even if the how is up for discussion.

I would change the system so it’s humanitarian visas which can be vetted, and controlled, idk at what number, it’s up to the electorate. Maybe 20 to 30k per year.

It’s more who we let in and the background checks prior to doing so.

soddingspiderseason · 24/08/2026 12:38

It depends on how you choose to view the world. You’ve focussed on the negatives; there are plenty of positives if you choose to see them.

Littlegreywolfcub · 24/08/2026 12:39

Dazedandconfused28 · 23/08/2026 02:51

I think there are things worldwide which are of deeo concern - climate change, cost of living, Trump style politics etc.

BUT - we are also bombarded by a 24/7 mews cycle, & an avalanche of opinion on social media - which inevitably leads to a feeling of catastrophe.

The general expectation to a certain standard of living has dramatically changed , and so people are increasingly dissatisfied and disillusioned with their lives. On the one hand, we're sold an unattainable dream of materialistic wealth & luxury, next to news articles on economic crisis. And then being told the most desperate in society are at fault for our woes. I think the way in which we live now has also eroded our resilience.

That's not to say things aren't tough for many people right now - but that's been true throughout almost every period of history, it's just that our digital, highly connected world is now amplifying those issues, so that they feel disastrous.

This poster is spot on.

I'll add that life during and just after world war 2 probably wasn't so great with rationing etc.

Also just over 100 years ago people did not have easy access to antibiotics and vaccinations for many diseases were not as readily available.

NeelyOHara · 24/08/2026 12:15

Surely it depends on the number of cars and roller skates?

If you have 3 million people die of car accidents and the number of cars was over 50
million then that’s not as bad as 3 people die as a result of a roller skating accident with a total number of 3 roller skates?

It’s all relative.

So no action to address the causes of other 75-85% of sexual offences? We focus only on those committed by foreign nationals, only plough resources into tackling that aspect of VAWG?

You have demonstrated very nicely the point I was trying to make. Thank you.

Of course, but it’s a different system and you’re asking what I want to see. So I’ve answered that.

Your question was a gotcha. Thank you for demonstrating that I guess.

She's not talking about good things. Of course good things happen, but they don't cancel out the bad.

Well...obviously.
