Does anyone else feel the UK is heading towards a crisis?

Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

The Labour Government was not in power when the Ukranian Refugees were first invited.

Updated briefing on Ukraine visa schemes
Summary

Visa extensions are allowed, but not permanent residence.

Permanent residence (indefinite leave to remain) is not allowed. This makes the schemes different from standard visas or grants of refugee status, which do allow permanent residence after a given period. Both Conservative and Labour governments have said Ukraine will be safe to return to and the visas are therefore temporary, in line with the wishes of the Ukrainian authorities.

The Ukraine Family Scheme opened for applications on 4 March 2022.
Homes for Ukraine opened for applications on 18 March 2022.
The Ukraine Extension Scheme opened for applications on 3 May 2022.

All three schemes were free and none were capped. The visas are time-limited with no pathway to permanent residence, but unlike ordinary visas come with access to mainstream benefits.

The European Union has also offered temporary rather than permanent residence to the millions of Ukrainians in its territory.

One of the school mums I know is a health visitor and she said that a huge number of people aren’t taking their kids to the dentist if they can’t go for free. I think it almost boarders on neglect and like she said the people she visits who moan they can’t afford to take this kids all have the latest play stations, brand new sofas, are going on holiday, potentially smoke, drink, go out for meals etc etc yet they can’t spare £20 for a kids check up every 6-12 months.

priorities

I've seen a dentist open recently if the parents pay, the kids can go for free.

The world's definely got worse. Sad thing is it won't get better.

Society is churning out slot of scummy people.

What your hearing now and you think it's bad, makes you wonder what will be the norm in ten years time.

Actually, you’re proving mine. Citing “legitimate concerns” without any substantive information to back them up then claiming you are being shut down over your legitimate concerns.

For the avoidance of doubt: We need to control immigration to make sure it is targeted to meet the demands of our economy, and that public services can support the population = legitimate concern.

We need to stop all “illegals” from “flooding” our country because they are all coming here to rape our women = not legitimate because it is based on falsehood and misinformation.

But I didn’t say any of that. You’ve had to invent an extreme argument about "illegals raping women" to argue against a point I never made, which illustrates how discussion of immigration gets derailed.

I don’t need this approach no, even if it makes you feel good for a moment.

You are posting heavily against changes, not me. Why is that?

I’ve already explained to you a humanitarian visa system. You can scroll back to read again.

You won’t get there by absolving the government from making any changes, ensuring no one highlights crimes and fighting on every thread women who do want change.

Apologies, I missed the post clarifying the humanitarian system. How does that work? Can someone claim asylum from a different country? Because that would sound exactly like the system I suggested much earlier today. One of the many times I posted about there being problems with the current system. At no point have I absolved the government from making changes nor posted heavily against changes. I applaud the current government for speeding up the asylum claims system so we can ensure those who are to be allowed to remain can be properly documented, and also for the work they are doing internationally with other governments to deal with people trafficking, which seems to be a success. But that’s about the only bits I think are a success. Unpicking the issues with the convention which don’t suit the modern world (as I mentioned earlier) is going to be a more difficult thing to do as it would need a cross nation effort, but I’d like to see our government at least start that conversation. There are a lot of things wrong with the current system, I just don’t believe that weaponising VAWG by refugees is the way to get any of it sorted, particularly when VAWG by British White men is largely being ignored. That seems like a hollow argument to me.

You’ve seen nothing yet. It’s honestly fine if you compare it with countries that really did have a crisis. But it’s never too late…

VAWG by British White men is largely being ignored

Why do you think you can keep saying this and just get away with it going unchallenged?

1dayatatime · 23/08/2026 21:37

This topic brings me to one of my favourite quotes by Alexander Fraser Tytler, Lord Woodhouselee in the late 1700s:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

I never said you said any of that. I said that legitimate concerns first had to be legitimate. You claimed that was wrong, I gave you an example of what was not a legitimate concern. It’s an example of comments I have seen made when people claim they have legitimate concerns. Your concerns might be legitimate. Why don’t you give me one of your legitimate concerns?

Ok, what are the government doing to address the issue? How have the figures on DV changed in, let’s say the last decade? When was the last time you saw large groups, particularly of men, protesting against VAWG when there wasn’t an immigration issue?

A girl from Yorkshire was killed on holiday in Fife, allegedly by her father. Do you think there would have been protests across the country if he has been an asylum seeker?

I’m happy to be corrected if you want to show me actual evidence that VAWG by white British men has had the same or even more prominence in the past 5 years as when an asylum seeker is involved.

I don’t see any of the crimes which have occurred as insignificant. The opposite in fact, it should be cataclysmic for change. I don’t see how anyone can see Rhiannon Whyte and think it’s not.

I also don’t see how people can applaud Labour on this system given it relies on actual fighting on French beaches, tear gas or batons. It’s a nonsense mass of contradictions.

On visas, I don’t mind if it’s permanent, if people want to build a life. The important part is stopping this messy, chaotic system with all that risk, and men benefitting, and so many crimes occurring here and on the way. Scrap it all and choose a limited amount of people, already vetted.

That means major changes to international laws though which is the hurdle.

I’m happy to proceed without waiting for everyone else, as Australia has done.

Where are there large groups of men protesting against VAWG from the refugee countries?

Seems like some selective standards are being applied to a particular group.

I thought that was called 'racism' but what do I know

It's still a good country to live in, but it's deteriorating, imploding from inside and there is no chance of improvement because we are not a growing economy anymore.
The welfare state is collapsing and it will only get worse.
We are going for a 2-tier society where the wealthier people will be able to afford private healthcare with real staff while the rest only gets AI GP.
Benefits for the young and disabled and children will be slowly scaled back because the money will be increasingly going to the growing numbers of elderly who are the biggest voting base.
The young will have an increasing debt from the uni and won't be getting jobs because of AI. And our governments have decided to fully open our job market to it, unlike the EU that is fiercely protecting it's employees.
With the ever increasing levels of debt the young won't ever afford to afford a property and they won't even inherit because their parents will have to sell theirs off to finance their carehome.
Plus, the UK politics is now in chaos, where Downing Street is an ever revolving door ruled by social media rather than long-term politics.
Long term reforms won't even happen anymore because we are now having a new PM every year.
And we will never be in a position to stop the boats unless we deploy drones to puncture the dinghies while they are still on the French side.

We left from there! Used to be a lovely market town - influx of European workers came in and the gangs were obscene. Our house we were renting out to a family became a 50 people plus house sleeping on the floors and then vans coming to pick them up every day. We stopped going into Boston due to the violence- woodhall became our local town!

I remember reading that Boston (Lincs) had been given the dubious accolade of 'the most murderous town' in England and Wales (murders and attempted murders per capita 2015) - largely blamed on Eastern Europeans. Also, that five Lithuanian men managed to kill themselves in Boston in 2011 when their illegal vodka factory exploded - a sixth Lithuanian man escaped with 75% burns.

If 3 million people died every year from car accidents, and 3 people a year died every year from roller skating accidents, would you want all the safety efforts, media attention and outrage to be on cars, or roller skates….?

You are all screaming at roller skates.

I want to ask you, if, (as you're determined to try yet failing to prove) illegal immigrants of men aren't a problem, then why are we told by the Government not to visit the Countries they come from, as they're dangerous?

Also, why has the Government printed out leaflets (specifically for them) explaining that it's not right to rape women and children?
I imagine you'll either ignore my post completely or give another bs ridiculous answer..

Telegraph article today about how even clothes we donate to charity shops end up making money for wealthy billionaires and Royals from Liechtenstein. As I said upthread I bet these types are making money from immigration too. The article is long and I don’t have a share code but here’s an extract.

‘’More than 223,500 people across the UK work unpaid as volunteers in charity shops, giving up their free time in the hope they are contributing to a good cause. But the people who are ultimately benefiting off this unpaid labour are some of the richest people in Europe.
Why were so many UK recycling companies tied into Dutch investment schemes, Cayman Island debt companies and, ultimately, the royal family of Liechtenstein? How is it that the prices paid to charities for these donations lack regulation? And why are there no rules stopping the export of waste? It is not hard to envisage another model where worn clothes are kept in public ownership and treated as potential rather than a problem – the infrastructure that surrounds them is obviously worth having if private-equity funds are buying them up.’’

books.telegraph.co.uk/product/tansy-e-hoskins/charity-shop-world--an-investigation-into-community-consumption-and-waste/32718415

I think far too many people have an interest in getting money via charity, NGOs etc. If billionaires can profit from charity shops why isn’t the U.K. gov making money from it? Or are they involved personally in some way?

My daughter has asked me to share this (she is 21):
Almost every time I get harassed, it has been foreign Muslim men. Not saying Caucasians don’t do this at all but it is far less common.
Sometimes it only takes me to get out the car for them to call something over to me and I will have to sit in my car, lock the doors, and wait for one of my male friends to collect me.
My best friend is Iranian and says this is a silent takeover and when enough are here ( and remember that they usually have a lot of kids with the same ideologies) one will come into power and strip us of our rights as women completely, just as it happened in Iran 1979.
Even without one in power YET and the number of these foreign Muslims not even finished rising, Islam is being promoted in our society including SCHOOLS through eg Ramadan celebrations, just so the Muslims can feel included. Imagine promoting a religion that doesn’t respect women to a little girl who will grow up thinking it’s great! Makes me furious as someone who CARES about our children and future.
Whats funny is that I used to believe all of what I was told but I am lucky my eyes have been opened through experiences.
One in particular really shaped me and that was when I was barely 18 and dated a 30 year old Pakistani doctor. I thought that I couldn’t tarnish everyone with the same brush and that because he was educated he probably wouldn’t be disrespectful. Spoiler: he took advantage of me, treated me like an object, touched me where and when he pleased even when I said no and then complained when I got upset, disciplined me for standing up for myself as a woman, was openly disgusted by the concept of being gay and believed they were “bad people”. All of this he excused with, you guessed it, his culture.

I am only just speaking up about this now but I also know so many girls have similar experiences.
But it seems there doesn’t even need to be a relationship for this SA. These Muslim foreign men have touched and/or harassed so many girls on the streets (I am a personal
victim).
Yes, all these instances happen with caucasion men too but let me tell you that it’s a LOT less prevalent from mine and my friends experience. I strongly believe it’s because Islam disrespects women.

We need to stop the boats because most people on them are Muslim foreign men!

So in conclusion, we may be letting these Muslim men in to provide their safety, but it’s coming at the cost of OURS as women
Open your eyes.

Men.

Your DD is harassed by men. Foreign men. Local men. White men. Brown men. Black men. Men in dresses. Men on stag dos. Men just driving through

Men.

Are you really suggesting that bringing a tiny percentage of a population here makes us as unsafe as their home nation?

Here is why the FCO advises against travel to Afghanistan: “You should not travel to Afghanistan. The security situation is volatile and tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have previously resulted in violent clashes in border regions. Travel throughout Afghanistan is extremely dangerous and a number of border crossings are not currently open.
There is a heightened risk of British nationals being detained in Afghanistan. If you are a British national and you are detained in Afghanistan, you could face months or years of imprisonment. FCDO’s ability to help you is extremely limited and support in person is not possible in Afghanistan.”

Can you point to which part of this is a risk to us when Afghan’s come here?
