I love to walk. Unfortunately I can’t get away to walk all these fantastic places and they aren’t wheelchair accessible to being ds along!

Im lucky to be 10 Minutes from the coast so I walk there a lot with friends or ds can access it if we
go together.

Ironbridge is great, haven't been for years. We are thinking of a weekend away next April, will add it to the possibles.

Blimey, that's a long haul! Halfway isn't as far as you might think but Ironbridge is probably about right. A bit north of there might be better but not sure what there us to see or do.

We normally do the journey in one go! But getting older and more tired these days...

I love Ironbridge but I also like Ludlow for a stopover.

Ludlow is also a good shout, thanks. Much depends on finding wheelchair accessible places to stay, which is not always easy. Will do a bit of digging.

My DH and I have had a couple of lovely romantic weekends in Ironbridge, whilst our DDs stayed with their cousins. It’s one of our favourite places.

Depending on which route you take Cumbria is about exactly halfway and there are loads of beautiful spots in that country. Pretty much anywhere in the Lake District is beautiful if maybe too touristy this time of year?

We’ve had a weekly food waste bin collection for must be the last fifteen years, it’s a lockable container the foxes have been known to upend them & have a rummage I now put the container in a spare recycling bin with a plastic elasticated cover over it seems to work 99% of the time, general waste is collected fortnightly along with paper recycling & food waste the following week it’s plastics & glass with food waste works well I do make sure I rinse jars/bottles etc as if you don’t the foxes have a field day.

Still don't have food waste collection bins here - they were supposed to have been delivered weeks ago but no sign of them yet

Collection starting in September seems unlikely

Glasses here go to the glass bottle bank. Luckiky I have one about 500m away at the parade of shops.

So they are washed and not in a bag for life on my closet and take it when it’s full (not very often!)

When we were in Dinant, it was cardboard recycle day. There were boxes everywhere piled up high outside shops, restaurants and homes.

You wonder what happens with rain or wind.

Our council is really good on the recycling front. I think Wales in general is pretty good. We have a cardboard and paper day. Officially we have bags to put them in but people frequently bundle cardboard up and leave it out for collection.

Was quite shocked by how poor re-cycling was when we first moved here almost 20 years ago such that we used a brilliant hippy-ish private company who would take absolutely anything, to supplement the LA's efforts

It's improved at a snails pace really and still lagging behind what everyone seems to be describing here

Ds and I have just driven back home after swim training.

There’s roadworks on the road that my cul de sac is off. Stop at traffic lights and fox is just brazenly crossing as if it’s the most normal thing in the world! (Not even bin day here it’s Thursday!)

DS tried to get me a photo to pay tax but sadly his camera didn’t load up quick enough as lights changed!

Recycling is good here too - we have a bin for general rubbish/waste, a bin for paper/card recycling (and cardboard can go in there too if it's broken up), a bin for bottles and plastic, and a food bin. If you want, you can also have a bin for gardening rubbish. And every quarter, the council organises a pop-up tip in various neighbourhoods.

We have green bags for paper and cardboard, another for metal, foil and glass. Pink bags for hard plastic, blue bags for soft plastic, small bins for food waste, bags for garden waste and black bags for anything else. We can’t have wheelie bins because it’s too hilly here.

The Mirror's front page is dedicated to the drownings this summer and the families plea for water safety

I do like to complain about stuff generally (see my user name)😆- but I think our bin collections are really good.
Blue wheelie bin for mixed recycling (card, paper, glass, plastic) collected weekly.
Food waste collected weekly.
Black wheelie bin for non-recycleables collected fortnightly.
And we choose to pay about £100 a year for a green garden waste wheelie bin collected fortnightly.
It works really well. Not having to segregate recycled rubbish into multiple different types makes it really easy.

That's an atrocious loss of life

It would be great if the Mirror could make it an ongoing campaign rather than one front page

Our recycling is also good. We have a blue bin for plastic, glass, tins and tetra pak. Meat trays can also be put in. Collection is monthly, which is plenty . Then we have a green lidded bin for paper and cardboard, also collected monthly. Grey bin for general waste is fortnightly, food caddy is weekly.

France (and I suspect most of Europe) has seen a similar pattern of drowning deaths this summer. Very sad - but I doubt that campaigns will make too much difference.
We live on the Thames - my adult son went swimming with friends a couple of times in the river this year - he can swim well, as can his friends, and he understands why you don't go anywhere near locks or weirs, and he knows why you don't swim in it with bare feet etc. We still sometimes get drownings near us though, in spite of fairly frequent warning signs about what to avoid.
Mandatory swimming lessons for all children to a useful level would help.

Gosh that's a tragic loss of life. There should be better signage, especially near rivers and lakes.

When we stayed in Stockholm, about 9 years ago, we went swimming and there was huge signs about safety and lots of 🛟 stationed all around.

Swimming lessons are mandatory!

Not sure they remove the teen risk taking part of the brain, sadly. Sea swimming needs a whole extra layer of training too.
