We've only just got food waste bins and finally, rotting food is being collected weekly instead of fortnightly.

I had to do that with wasps, one year. Turned out they were nesting in next door's roof and enjoying the aphid farm that the ants had built on an ailing plum tree in our garden.

I was thinking of trying to lose the extra half stone that has been hanging round since lockdown. I might use that photo as an instant appetite killer 🤣🤣🤣

I heard someone eating in the cat area one night and both cats were asleep of the sofa. Went in and there was a fox helping himself. He just looked at me, and slinked out. No rush at all. We have one local character who sits outside the chippy running up to people and begging like a dog.

FB really is a cesspit. I follow Everton Women on there and usually posts get a few comments. They posted a picture of some players watching the match yesterday with Burnham.

Been using rolled up flyers through the door as a fly squatter, as I don't get newspapers anymore. 100% success rate so far. The end that hits the flies have to be flat. Apparently it's something to do with physics and wind.

Last time I saw a fox was in London and it was on top of someone's car.

We used to live just over the hill from the local recycling centre. Every Summer we had lots of the particular kind of fly that lived there. Not this Summer though - they've cleared the area ready to build a new housing estate.

We have to use bricks on top of our food waste bin too but the culprits here are seagulls.

Oh yes - forgot about the seagulls. We get them here being fairly coastal. I think I’m less surprised to see a seagull than a fox.

Amazingly I’ve found the flies don’t like it if I spray lemon antibacterial around the window frame!

Oh no, that’s awful. We have a cat flap, what an unpleasant prospect.

The most we’ve had to cope with is a live mouse, which one of our furry friends brought in last week. It took us over half an hour to catch it.

My favourite was a live baby bunny.

Actually, thinking about it, we used to have a cat who would occasionally bring live frogs into the house.

I love cats but have never had one as an adult (we’re a dog household). I’d love to have a cat but I’m not sure I could cope with live baby animals and birds.

Cats kill birds that are weak and abandoned chicks not thought to survive.

A blackbird's nest in our garden was raided by Magpies. Sadly the dead chicks were discovered by my daughter.

We had our first lot of maggots in our food bin last week. They don't bother me. I wash out with boiling water, tip them out for the birds to eat and then scrub the bin. Everybody wins.

My cats are all indoor cats for various immunosuppression reasons so no cat flaps. The orange one and the big orange and white one do like to escape through upstairs windows onto the catio roof when they get the chance and someone leaves a bedroom door open. They then sit up there yelling to be rescued. 🙄

@placemats I'm off to Edale for a day walking tomorrow. It's a long drive so I'll get up at 5 and reward myself either with a zero alcohol beer in the Nags Head or cake in one of the cafés afterwards. I go every 3 or 4 weeks since I lost my horse. Favourite café is in Castleton but I'm keeping the great ridge for winter now.

I spent a week in Derbyshire on my first marriage honeymoon and just loved it. Went to Jacobs ladder and Kinder Scout. I just loved Chatsworth, Buxton and Bakewell. We may have walked Mam Tor, looks familiar.

Have a lovely time. It's a glorious place in England.

My Peak District trips have got more expensive since I discovered a Rab/Lowe Alpine outlet store just a short diversion off my route home. I've honestly only bought stuff I needed. Even if I didn't know I needed it before I went in 😂. It's closed Mondays though so my bank balance is safe tomorrow.

Talking of trips, can anyone suggest somewhere nice to stop for a night between Glasgow and South Wales, somewhere around mid-way between the two?
