Glad it’s all done @pointythings. It’s really harrowing waiting around during surgery.

Notonthestairs · 23/07/2026 18:09

i missed also your update it’s getting weird - great news but I hope they can get to the bottom of it soon.

Pointy - it’s good that he can come home with you for some tlc.

Llttledrummergirl · 23/07/2026 18:11

@pointythings I'm glad the op seems to have gone well so far.

I love the national gallery and try to get to it whenever I'm in London.

The BBC has just said Fairford is now considered a legitimate target by Iran. Bad enough fucking American planes go over my house from there, now I'm to expect stuff going the other way. I hope their aim is hood, are roads are fucked already. I've written to our NP previously about America using our airspace, now it needs to be in sharp focus.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 23/07/2026 18:13

Sending both @pointythings' DS and @itsgettingweird my best wishes and a rapid recovery.

cardibach · 23/07/2026 18:46

Best wishes to your DS @pointythings and hope they sort you soon @itsgettingweird .
I'm off out to an Inner Confidence workshop at my gym.

It’s horrific for RAF personnel living there.

TemperanceWest · 23/07/2026 18:51

Best wishes from me too to @pointythings DS and @itsgettingweird ❤️

I utterly agree. I was being deliberately flippant because the reality would be horrific.
Maybe Burnham will o the right thing and close our airspace to American military planes.

Your MP is Dr Roz Savage, Lib Dems. Perhaps email her with your concerns. She may be allowed to get a question at the next PMQs in September.

One of my cats eats spiders. I also have one that noshes on moths. I'm in London, DS is in surgery right now. I tried to go to the National Gallery but they've evacuated it due to a fire alarm so I'm now lurking happily in Trafalgar Square.

Cat tax and bonus tax attached. Fettuccine looks so graceful in this pic 😂

Hope your DS’s op went well, @pointythings.

Great news about the test results, @itsgettingweird, hope you get answers about what’s actually going on.

You would hope so. What could happen doesn't bear thinking about.

Glad of the cancer all clear @itsgettingweird and I hope your GP has other good news for you.

@pointythings you must be one relieved mum. Best wishes to you both and I hope the painkillers really are top notch.

@placemats I'm not in that constituency, just near enough to have concerns. My MP is labour and we actually agree on this. I'm sitting on my hands tonight rather than following up on their last reply with "I told you so". Weirdly although we have never met we know many mutual friends and acquaintances so I try to keep the tone respectful.

Well your Labour MP is more likely to get a slot in PMQs.

DuncinToffee · 23/07/2026 19:53

It was a response to the B1 Bomber taking off from Fairford, I assume?

UK has already moved embassy staff out of Tehran

Reform lost council seats in prime Reform territory last night.Labour win Thurrock council seats after Reform UK resignations - BBC News

I am liking the fact that Farage has no Media air space over the summer. Its delightful.

The Manchester mayor election isn't getting a lot of coverage. There is reporting but only if you dig for it. There was a debate last night (reporting here) and apparently the Restore candidate has been suspended. I think if Reform were in with a chance there would be more national coverage.

A hand places a ballot paper into a black ballot box.

Labour win Thurrock council seats after Reform UK resignations

Two Reform councillors quit weeks after being elected, triggering the by-elections.

Morning all! Lovely news about Thurrock, that's a great start to the day. We are all well here. DS didn't sleep all that well, but at home we have a better upright sleep setup ready for him. Pain very manageable, better than expected range of arm movement so all good. We are heading out shortly to hit King's Cross and get a leisurely breakfast before we travel.

PickAChew · 24/07/2026 08:47

Could it be too much to hope that Reform's day is over?

TemperanceWest · 24/07/2026 08:50

That result is heartening given the huge number of seats Reform won there.

I’m glad he’s out and not as bad as expected. Wishing him a speedy recovery Flowers

I think they have done thenselves a lot of damage with their poor performance and misconduct in local authorities. Their big advantage was in never having had the chance to fail. Winning so many council seats with candidates woefully incapable of the job and barrel scrapings of chancers, wrong uns and thickets did them no favours.
Meanwhile Andy has made a strong start in terms of listening to and acting on concerns, and is cementing his reputation as people's candidate, so presenting a real alternative.
Don't want to jinx it, but so far things are going to plan!

BIossomtoes · 24/07/2026 09:26

There’s a bit of whinging about Burnham working in Manchester today - hasn’t Friday always been constituency day?

Notonthestairs · 24/07/2026 09:35

Yes, Friday is usually a constituency day.

Notonthestairs · 24/07/2026 09:36

Don’t know whether this link will work but interesting FT article about social care. Casey’s review should be published in the autumn.
